LetBox are an Egyptian based company who have been in business for the past year. We have featured them several times on LowEndBox. As you may have seen above, or recall from earlier listings, LetBox use their own custom coded control panel, vPanel. Mohamed tells us that they’re working on some new vPanel features at the moment and hopes to announce them soon. Disk is either RAID10 SAS or Cache SSD. Do have a read through the comments of their last thread, opinions on them were really mixed. If you’re a customer, how is your service with LetBox?

They only allow IRC, VPN and private proxies if you do not abuse the network, I/O or CPU. Adult and Tor are not allowed. For more information, you may want to view their Terms of Service.

Definitely looks tempting. That’s some nice specs for the price. But I’m getting pretty low speeds (1-3MB/sec) on the test file from various locations around the country. The only time I get decent speed is from another Dallas VPS, but even then that’s only like 8mb/sec.

I fear that speed is indicative of what I’d see with my VPS.

    • The Speed is capped to 100Mbps Can you try again please?

I’m not a customer. I wasn’t commenting on the speed of the VPS. I’m worried that the slow speeds I’m seeing from your test file would be indicative of how the VPS would perform were I to purchase it.

I’m still getting 1-3mb/sec download speeds from your test link above.

AVOID this company like the plague, he is a scammer and will cut your services as soon as something minor happens like moderate network usage. The guy who runs Letbox will deny understanding your emails with his broken english, absolute joke of a service.

        • Customer:

Letbox ToS is just a joke. For a VPS, you pay for the vCPU and you should be able to use however much the vCPU is allocated. But at letbox they will suspend your account as soon as your load average hits 1.0. Basically if you don’t do nothing on the VPS, this is a good choice. Otherwise, hell no

          October 21, 2013 @ 3:39 am | Reply
          • We really not looking for Load average and all VPS overload is according some Condition of CPU usage, nice etc.
The buyer never looking what we provide for example we did
            40 HD
            2Gb of RAM
2 Cores access to 1 Core
He think that can push 100% of 2 cores all the time.

At this time our team handle abuse by Alert the client and give him few hours to fix it sometimes days.
We working in automated system which allow everyone get Alert via email and SMS.

            Thanks.

I’m unable to ping their provided IP from Australia it seems, is it maybe a typo?
I can get better-than-normal-from-a-VPS download speeds from their server, oddly it’s the fastest I’ve gotten on test files over the past couple days from a lot of different VPS providers.
About that 100MB/s, maybe it’s suppose to be 100Mb/s?
I was real interested in their 1GB, but without being able to ping it and how they present themselves on their website, I’m currently detoured.
Is there anyone who is with them who can comment?

i run a tekkit server on they vps that in the evening receives 5-10 players online. The service has been solid no cpu, bandwidth or io issues at all. I did receive slow downloads from the test url provided on a CVPS server around 2-3 MBPS but from my letbox server i got 11.5 MBSP. Maybe i’m just on a good node, but i get way more then i pay for considering the amount i paid for minecraft hosting 2 months ago before i switched to letbox.

I caved and ordered one, despite still having speed problems with the test file and the fact that they offer zero refunds. (Paying many months for something that might suck with zero option for return is always a tough gamble.) Maybe I’m a sucker.

I’m awaiting setup currently and will post some benchmarks once it is provisioned.

    • RP:

      VPS was provisioned.

      Box is definitely speedy:

      [root@dtx ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
      1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.8717 seconds, 374 MB/s

It also gets good inbound speed(s):

      [root@dtx ~]# wget -O /dev/null http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test
      00:16:25 (11.4 MB/s) - `/dev/null' saved [104857600/104857600]

      [root@dtx ~]# wget -O /dev/null http://speedtest.wdc01.softlayer.com/downloads/test100.zip
      00:16:44 (9.06 MB/s) - `/dev/null' saved [104874307/104874307]

Outbound speeds are very similar to what I (and others) experienced with the test file. (1-2MB/sec)

Hopefully that will get corrected soon.

Very sad to see a nice, speedy VPS with a great price fail on such a major issue.

      • The issue has to do with capacity of the network, current bandwidth available and the quality of the carriers. It could be poor routing, different routes taken etc. There’s a lot of variables and end of the day each provider is different.

Testing different locations, especially with different network carriers doesn’t help.

Probably not on their OpenVZ VPS. They do list KVM’s but none are in stock.

You can always install regular Asterisk and add on the LAMP-based Web interface used by Trixbox/FreePBX. I’ve used plain Asterisk 1.8 (SIP/IAX trunks, G.711, G.722, no DAHDI, no meetme) on their OpenVZ VPS. Did not encounter any problems.

        • it’s Your problem if you don’t managed your VPS, We are fully unmanaged services, If you had read our terms of use will understand what we do offer etc.. We have no problem with consuming high CPU for a few minutes but when it goes on for hours sometimes 24 hours this becomes a problem.

I’d signed up despite the negative posts here. And as my post above indicates that they went down with no warning or information – please have the courtesy to email your users. Not every one subscribes to your twitter feed.

Any way, I just noticed that they’ve been double billing me for several months. I ask for a refund for the extra amount and they refuse pointing to their TOS. I don’t give a hoot about your TOS, you overcharged me, refund me. Your TOS does not give you the right to keep my money that you shouldn’t have taken in the first place. I can’t believe this – instead of trying to resolve the issue and keeping a 6 month long customer happy, they simply refuse! I’m not asking for any favors, just a correction. I’ve filed a dispute with my credit card and now as expected they’ve suspended my account. Good bye LetBox, I really don’t need to deal with your unprofessional attitude. There are plenty of alternatives.

    • Switch failure not give us warning before go die so how we can know will happened? And we did sorry for that and provide everyone credit,
also if you don’t hoot about our TOS, that’s your mistake who don’t read or even look at this, and what is issue talking about? We provide 100%uptime for you expect we get 8 hours when switch failure.
PS, You setup Recurring Billing and claim that we charge you whatever Good luck and have nice day.

Yes, I understand that a switch failure doesn’t give a warning, but why don’t you send an email AFTER it happened as soon as you know it happened, explaining what happened, so we don’t have to wonder what’s going on.

Your TOS does not give you the right to keep money that doesn’t belong to you.

        • As we Announced we will have another Statement as soon as we get our switch shipped and delivered to back our IPV6 and port speed online again.

We don’t keep any money all payment automated set as credit and this will be automatically applied to any new invoices as long as you still have active services otherwise we will refund if there is no active services there, refund cost us money and we will not paid for your fault when you did 2 recurring subscription.
Credit will save your time to paid next invoices etc and will not make us paid again for 2checkout (Gateway fee)

          Have good day.

There are a lot of empty negative statements posted here.

Im using letbox for one year now and I’m quite satisfied with the server, speed and service.
Letbox has always answered my tickets so I dont really understand the negative comments above.
Its perfect if you can manage a linux server (and know what your doing)..
If you want 500% uptime, and be treated like a king, go to rackspace and pay like a pro.
