Matthew, the founder of LoveVPS, emailed me about their LowEndBox specials. You can get their “VPS #2” package for $5.95/month using this order link, and you get

256MB memory
10GB storage
250GB/month data transfer
OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers are with BurstNet in Scranton, and Matthew has just reported that they have almost got IPv6 working. If you do a search of “LoveVPS” on WHT you’ll see how it has changed hands over the last couple of months (start reading from this old comment on the BitEntity post), but the new owner, UK based Matthew assures us that “LoveVPS.com / LoveVPS.co.uk will not die an early death and that LoveVPS and your servers are in safe hands with me”. It also claims “Zero Overselling” on its website as it’s “unethical”. No customer testimony yet on the website, probably because it has only started in January. Matthew however has previously operated TigerTB.com (and subsequently sold to Zooko.co.uk). Usual FAIL with running both NS on the same IP.

With regards to DNS, I prefair to have full control of the systems under my watch rather than relying on 3rd party sites its a lot easier to fix and explain if need be why it was down rather than waiting for a 3rd party to send you there excuses and in the mean time your taking flack.
Not saying free dns services are bad, just they have there own place and I don’t think its entirely suitable for a business

    They get DDOS’d sometimes, causing downtime. To customers, it’d look like you were trying to cut corners by using free DNS.

    I have been a user of EveryDNS since ~2002 and indeed DDoS is one of the issues that caused sometimes multi-day outage. I believe FreeDNS might be the same as well.

  But this is a single, non-redundant NS. It’s great to have your own geographically separated and network-redundant DNS cluster fully under your control, but if you don’t have that is the best alternative really just running a single, non-redundant nameserver?
  I’d think adding a free service (I’ve been liking dns.he.net so far) as a few slaves would be better than the one server alone, and take no more than 10 minutes to setup.
  But it looks to me like lovevps tried to setup with redundant DNS and just messed up somehow. They list their nameservers as ns1 and ns2.mrhostuk.com (seems to be TigerTB’s service), but whereas ns1.mrhostuk.com is round-robined to 2 different IPs, and ns2.mrhostuk.com has a 3rd IP, the lovevps.com domain only points to one of ns1’s IPs under both the ns1 and ns2 glue records. If you check with the other 2 mrhostuk.com nameservers, they aren’t authoritative on lovevps.com. So somehow they got their domain hosted on only 1/3 of a DNS cluster, and now are pointing to only that single node.

However in the Manchester DC closer to my home I do locate some personal servers however these are not up to the specification of the servers in the US and we are in the process of ordering new servers from dell to replace the servers in the UK. The servers in the UK are currently not used for VPS Hosting at the present time.

Got their $7 Valentines VPS, decides whether to go with VPSFuze or LoveVPS, went with LoveVPS because their on East Coast.
Its pretty quick right now and responsive, and decent download speed. However, the network speed for downloading Debian packages is very…… slow, should probably change to another mirror.
