Neutrino - $5 512MB Xen VPS Exclusive Offer

Neutrino Dylan from Neutrino Networks emailed me about their exclusive offer for Low End Box readers on their XenServer-based virtual servers. Use this link and coupon code LEBJUNJUL10 to get 75% off recurring discount (expiring on July 14, 2010), which reduces their “Budget” package to $5/month, and you get

  • 512MB memory/1024MB swap
  • 50GB RAD5 + 25GB RAD10 storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • XenServer
  • 1x IPv4 + 1x IPv6

On their home page it says their servers are in New York City metro area. Pretty awesome spec — only if you can order one. I have just tried and it displays it is currently out of stock.

Domain has been registered for a month to a New York based company “Neutrino Networks”. Although their servers are in NY their website is at WebFaction in Houston TX. In the email, Dylan also left a signature that says “Neutrino AB” — which indicates that it might be a Swedish company.

Update: Dylan has sent me the following info

Open letter to anyone that inquired about VPS services:

We kind of had some teething problems with the new XenServer VPSes, most of us are Virtuozzo guys – not really Xen. Had a batch of drives fail, degraded RAID arrays, some issues with controllers and Citrix, and ran into API “issues” when coding our inhouse control panel plus some other stuff.

I am asking Lowendadmin to take off the links/coupon for now, we will be delaying the release of VPS service for a bit until all the kinks are properly worked out.

We will be revamping the entire system (or maybe changing to VMware or Xensource) and opening up a free beta testing period, which probably should
have been done in the first place, to the public in the near future for about two to three months to make sure there are no issues before going production again. Don’t have an ETA right now.

I’m sorry for inconveniencing all that have wanted to order. We have actually only gotten payment from about four people before disabling orders, all of those that paid have been fully refunded plus 15% for their trouble.

Again, apologies for the trouble.

Dyl

Well. All I can suggest to other hosting providers is — do not send me anything if you do not think you want to commit to provide the services advertised.

Looks like no dice :( I would have hopped all over a $5 512 Xen, even if the host is new.

  5. Order page does not work, an ajax image spinning but nothing happens, if you click CONTINUE, it takes you to a page which tells you orders are closed.

mm, looks like they don’t support Paypal due to “horrible track record and bad decisions”. But well, PayPal was never meant for internet goods.

Now the page pops up a message about their Xen hardware having problems so they are disabling ordering until it’s resolved. This is an auspicious start.
