More about the company:

“NFPHosting.com was founded in 2006 as an e-commerce hosting provider after seeing the lack of hosts who can deliver quality. Throughout the years of learning the ins and outs of running a hosting company, and seeing the opportunities to expand in the marketplace, NFP Hosting throughout the years added additional services to serve a wider variety of markets. NFP Hosting today offers everything the basic consumer looking to start a website may need, all the way up to the advanced (technical) user looking to set up a cluster of servers. Bought a small VPS plan with NFP last Black Friday. Still working well, no complaints. Hrm, I’ll have to consider this for additional servers/diversity…

Not on these offers we’re featuring here today but if you require a set up that supports IPv6 please contact us at sales@nfphosting.com and we can put together something for you on a node that supports it.

I’ve been with NFP for few months now, had a chance to test their reseller accounts using up to 7 VPS accounts and my experience has been poor to say the least. The servers were fast initially but within days/weeks they became so overloaded I would not be able to connect via SSH. When I did manage to connect the I/O would be in the 3-10Mb/s range. Having immediately raised a ticket I had to literally “fight” with their single support person who couldn’t resolve the issue over the next 2 weeks and some 30+ messages. Some replies would take him around 12h, then the response would be the typical “we optimized the node, please check”, after replying that I see no difference he actually asked me which VPS I am talking about (yeah, it’s in the subject and in the first message but he didn’t know). After getting frustrated for 2 weeks and having this “back and forth” conversation where he probably pretend to do something and then would ask me to check and me seeing no difference at all, finally he informed me they suspended some client who was abusing the VPS. Indeed, the load become much lower, not great but you get what you pay for. I asked for some kind of compensation for the 2 week downtime and the response I get “The issue is resolved from our end. We do not provide any compensation from our end.” After my reply asking for escalation to his superior he actually closed the ticket without replying so I didn’t get any email notification and been waiting for a reply for 3 days. I re-opened the ticket with a reminder of my case, luckily he forwarded the ticket and their director politely offered a generous $10 compensation. It has been like a week without issues and just an hour ago I got a notification that my services are down on another VPS. Can’t connect to it, can’t access the reseller control panel so I guess I’ll be raising another ticket and expecting the same. (Update: 4 hours later the panel is still down and they rebooted 2 of my other VPS for who knows what reason, maybe optimizing nodes for another poor fellow).

Few other things which are disappointing, the control panel when it works it’s extremely slow. It feels like it’s being hosted behind a 56K modem, literally. Every page takes around a minute to load and you have to go through a few of these to get what you are looking for. Very annoying when you just want to see the load history etc. I was adding VPS accounts maybe on 4 occasions during these months and I think I never had the chance to go with any of their 3 locations. I mean, they are out of resources on 2 and you have to go with what’s left if you need the VPS at that moment. If you created an account but the benchmark scored poorly so you delete it and recreate the account, you will most probably land in the same loaded server. Next, the so called DDOS protection – they will just null your IP for how many hours they like and you can’t do much about it, but your server is secure, just offline. Finally, the 24/7 support, yeah, if you count in the waiting time of around 12h in some cases when the support is probably sleeping. Oh and at some point I asked if they can swap my reseller vps for a similarly priced kvm but that was not possible for some reason, other hosting companies manage it perfectly fine.

I hope they try harder to provide what they advertise but until then, let my experience be a gentle reminder, you get what you pay for.

That’s interesting – hopefully everything works out favorably. I must say my experience has been the exact opposite though. I am having 16 VPS’s in total with them from last few months for my nodes and they run flawlessly.

Actually I tried to contact you on that email many months ago and you never replied so I don’t have much hope you really stand behind your words but I’d be really very happy if I was wrong this time.

    • Josh:

I have been with NFP since October 2017 and Simon’s description could not have summed up the recent experience for me any better.

Exact same problems with Disk I/O performance, VPS randomly going offline, the control panel SO slow (56K modem slow) and often just doesn’t work. Have raised a few support tickets with the ‘we optimized the node’ response as well, however the problem almost immediately comes back (if it’s even resolved to begin with).

That said, for the first 6 months I can’t recall any major issues and the performance was perfectly reasonable. Since then, it’s been so touch and go without any resolution from NFP. I understand these are cheap plans, but at the moment the performance is so sporadic it’s almost unusable.

Unfortunately I’ll be canceling my service (renewal due in 1 month). This is a shame as NFP’s price point is great.

I got 1 SSD server with them in the LA node and I have to say their services are the worst. My server was down all the time, I used 3rd party to monitor server and the downtime is always 1hour. Within a month, 3 times down. The latest downtime is incredible 2 days until I send a support ticket. Whenever you open a ticket support, no response until they fixed it and just a general sorry for inconvenience. More than that, they suspended my server, not my account with no email, no explanation or ticket. Stay away from this company.

He said Sunday… not Saturday. You might want to re-read. But anyways, I too think it’s pretty normal for billing departments to *not* be available on Saturday, Sunday’s, and any national holidays. Just like your local bank isn’t available, or has limited hours on those days. Support on the other hand I would say is a different story, I would expect that to be 24×7.

Looks like a great deal. Before I proceed, what is the AS / IP range? want to check at Spamhaus before I make a decision. Got a few lowendhosts who are dumping a VPS with blacklisted IP’s cheaply, so I am careful these days. I know it’s a lowendbox, but being able to send a e-mail is something that is important to me.

  11. Avoid NFP hosting like a plague. Seriously! I am not saying they are scammers, but they are very close to scammers, and they won’t honour they guarantees offered on their website.

I have had their VPS package for 3 months, and it repeatedly went offline – with only 98% uptime. Tech support would send a generic response saying that all works fine, but it never really did. My response time was up to 15.000ms (yes fifteen thousand!). After 3 months I requested money back because they guarantee 99.99% uptime. Do you think they gave it? NO! Instead they shut down my server and kept my money also. I have now opened a case with PayPal to get my money back. They didn’t have the decency to tell me that they are going to take it offline – I just got a notification asking for feedback.

Alright, so I bought a VPS with NFP Hosting on their last offer, 4-5 months ago. That VPS is in their IL location, and I haven’t had any complaints about it. Decided to pick up the #3 sized package reseller today, and must say they definitely made VPS hosting sexy. I love the flexibility of being able to deploy and destroy VPS’s whenever and wherever I want in any location I want.

Fair warning to those considering NFP: if you’re sending a support ticket, you’ll be greeted by a bot named Jamie Donati who will give you a templated response: “we have optimized our hostnode, please check with it.” Further unhelpful responses will be short 1-2 sentences with poor English likely from an outsourced team in India. In the end, they weren’t able to move my VPS to a new server and likely lost all the data on it. They’ve since ignored all my replies providing me no updates whatsoever.

I’m starting to worry but… lets see how it goes. I ended up picking VPS Reseller #1. Given the comments here I guess I should be expecting poor services in a month or two.

The only complain I have right now is that the IO seems clogged. Installing packages, even as small as speedtest-cli (ubuntu) took longer than expected. Same with the running upgrade… took way longer than I was hoping. Network is not that bad, then again I’m not planning to run anything too intensive. For the price I don’t expect much from the service.

Beware that even if you are within the timeframe of 3 days money back they’ll try to give you support even though I was explicitly clear I wasn’t interested in continuing the service.

The comments here on the quality of the VPS is spot on though… clogged IO, clogged network. 100kbps while trying to download/restore one of my backups… I just couldn’t keep up. Network is in a dire state.

Their services are not reliable and often offline for minutes or hours. The problems have not been resolved.

Be ware of their money back guarantee claim. Its a scam. They do not honor it. Here is what they replied:

    > We offer a 3 day money back guarantee on shared hosting, reseller hosting, and VPS hosting services. Any refund requests submitted past this timeframe are evaluated on a case by case basis. We’re confident that you won’t ever have to utilize our refund policy as you’ll be so pleased with our services, however we certainly wish to work with any client that is having an issue with our services! Clients who have violated our TOS/AUP have forfeited any eligibility for a refund. Please be aware that special promotions are priced in a manner whereby hard costs of provisioning are internally absorbed, therefore in some cases, we might be unable to guarantee refunds on special promotions.

So since they are offering promotional prices here… they cannot honor their money back fake policy…

I have had a number of services with NFP over the last year. Shared hosting, SSD vps and standard vps in LA and Houston (openvz). The first couple of months were great but since then I spend my life opening tickets for offline services. Today all the services have or are offline. Support seems to consist of one guy. The standard answer is “check your via now” or “I can move you to another node but you will loose all your data”. I don’t like leaving bad feedback but NFP is possible the worst hosting and vps provider I have used and I have used a number. Seriously I would recommend looking elsewhere for a more reliable service. No I am not a competitor trying to write a bad review but a very frustrated customer who won’t continue any of my services when they are up for renewal.

I really don’t understand why company don’t care with their customer anymore, like you are an old customer and even you don’t got a good service. I don’t know which company I can choose from LEB offers here anymore. Hope you find a good provider then.

In reality NFP’s business model appears to be over sell services on their services. It is often done in the cheaper end of the market. They have no magic great service for low price model. The fact they over hype and over sell their service and reliability is the dishonest part. Like everyone they are just people trying to make a living out of something but don’t buy from them if you want a reliable service. Treat it more as an experience in how not to do things and dealing with endless tech support tickets. As of 3 hours ago another SSD service is offline. Another day another ticket.

Call me crazy, call me the oddbird, or maybe I am the only sane one here with my expectations in line for an unmanaged LEB provider. I have a SSD VPS with NFP for 6 months, and ordered a VPS reseller plan a few days ago. No complaints about NFP, the speeds are not great but they’re okay and still faster than most of my VPS. Support always responds within 1 hr of submitting a ticket, and that’s okay with me for the price I pay.

  30. I’m also going through a lot of anger with this provider:

_ Our hosting at NPF Hosting is as fast as a slug (sick of course)
_ At night one of the sites does not work, presents Error 500 on http server
_ I have been intermittent blocking of sending emails from my clients for three (3) days, because the IP of our smtp server is blacklisted, without being our fault.
_ Technical Support amateur, can not solve problems and keeping customers wasting time
_ How great is our despair that I asked them for any proposal to solve the problem, and the cost of the possible solution, but they only have a standard answer: “We are verifying your problem still and we will contact you soon.”
_ Worst hosting service of my life!

I hope this comment is not deleted!

WELL, I was OK with NFP – now on the fence …
I have been with a number of COLO resellers (should I say Jonathan/GVH??? to mention the absolute bottom!). Over 4 years with Servermania – NOT a ticket in 3 1/2 years on a number of VPS! to Mention the “top”! regretfully they moved out of this priceclass.

So this year I bought from a few others.
My KVM with nfp had a “rough start” – but has been up 100% for 6 months and counting.

Thus, when the “reseller VPS” offer fluttered into my inbox I went for it. Again, a few problems but quickly resolved by the (sole?) supporter. Then the Virtualizor went away = no access to existing VPS and no way to create new ones … a few down-times and slow response from the buffalo location. Then configuration “refused” at NY – moved it to LA – NO problem.

As of today I am leaning towards those who are more critical. Speed and features as well as support speed are not stellar – but, IMHO, very adequate for the price. The tilt downhill is my experience today. 6 hours of my time wasted and no solution! Virtualizor NOT accessible at the given URL/Port, ticket opened with explanation. After 1+ hour the simple reply was “it works for us”. Great, I will invite myself to their office then?

Here is a simple note to NFP: “If I can not provide service to my customers – I do not get paid for my lost time. While you proudly hold on to my money – understand that I will not likely give any more … If you leave me in a lurch like this …

PS: seems you have another virtualizor running at a port a few digits higher, while that one seems to load quickly it does not accept my credentials … bummer!

I would think twice before hosting with them. I first did the shared host to try it out and it was slow. So Then I tried a vps with 3GB of ram and all I have had is issues. my vps slow or ip no responding its up and down. Then on top of that their control panel to send a ticket or login has the same issue. They take a long time to respond to support. It’s all but negative with them. They had a great special with a reseller hosting which turned out to be bad as well. I had to have my account refunded and changed back to regular vps cause of the issues. I have been with them for about a year now. No longer will i spend a cent.
