NordicVPS - $5.95 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

Updated February 2012 — It’s long time coming, but NordicVPS has finally bite the dust. Website is no longer working on 24 January 2012. Bye!

NordicVPS Adam from NordicVPS wrote to me in email about their new offers on OpenVZ VPS packages, and the cheapest offer “OVZ512” fits with my listing criteria. For $5.95/month you get

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 30GB storage (upgraded from 15GB, if you mention “LEB” when you sign up)
  • 1,000GB/month data on 100Mbps link
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

You can also get 50% off 1st month coupon code VPS50OFF from WHT — works in their latest OpenVZ packages as well. Servers are in Germany at Hetzner DC — not Hetzner’s standard dedicated boxes but special builds. NordicVPS is based in Copenhagen Denmark and has been around for over a year.

  1. NordicVPS is pretty cool. Excellent support. I had XEN with them.

Too bad, for me, that their Ubuntu 10.04 LTS template had some issues and it was showing some spikes on CPU load. Still waiting on them to resolve this minor issue. (by the way, im having the same issue with the same template at ThrustVPS.com and Rus is about to load new templates to fix it)

  3. Hey, thanks for the note.

Well I installed lighttpd+php5+mysql-server 5.1. It was all great but even with an idle VPS (not running any php/mysql script or httpd traffic), there was CPU spike. After investigation, they told me its because of the Ubuntu template (probably a bad template with mal-configured pygrub?!).

  4. i can run LEB script on Debian 5 64 bit without problem but all script version is very old (nginx 0.6.x, …)

if i try with Ubuntu, it’s fine but after rebooting i cant start php.

Can you run these 2 commands :
    grep CONFIG_HZ /boot/config-$(uname -r)
    grep CONFIG_PREEMPT /boot/config-$(uname -r)

  8. Thank you LowEndBox Admin for featuring our offer here :)

We are not yet ready with a updated Ubuntu 10.04 XEN PV template but maybe you can try our HVM offer and install the OS yourself instead of using a pre-created template ?

Also for Debian, its not too hard to build Nginx from source , see http://wiki.nginx.org/NginxInstall#Stable

For updated LAMP packages e.g PHP and MySQL for Debian, please see http://www.dotdeb.org/about/ – he does a great job keeping packages up to date and you can even get PHP 5.3.x if you want to experiment :)

  12. Wow the plans are pretty damn nice actually, and I love the minimal website design :P Too bad I’m not looking for a server in Denmark.. Or do they offer USA servers? I noticed plans from Softlayer.

    August 9, 2010 @ 7:07 pm | Reply
  13. Whoa, never mind about the USA confusion, I just realized they do in fact have USA datacenters, San Jose, CA being one of them.

  14. @Mark Yes we try to follow the KISS principle on the design side :D

    We have servers in US
West: San Jose, Los Angeles and Seattle
Center: We are exploring DC’s in Atlanta and Missouri – will launch offers at this location very soon, maybe with some exclusive deals for users here on LEB :)

In Europe we have servers mainly in Germany, because this location provides good access for customers from countries incl. Finland, Russia and especially Eastern European countries and Turkey.

  19. @Tom Well yes that doesn’t hurt either :) And we forward the saving to our customers by providing some pretty nice offers, while others who use the same DC has higher prices :)

@KLIKLI I believe you mean ‘repositories’? – The OpenVZ templates are the default ones created and provided by OpenVZ

  33. Hrm… LEB is not a recognised promo code? Or do I have to email someone after ordering? Also, does it apply to the Xen options? I’d buy a Xen HVM partition with 30GB storage in a heartbeat if it did :-)

    August 13, 2010 @ 2:08 am | Reply
  34. @Donald

You use VPS50OFF as the promotional code then when checking out there is a notes/additional comments field i believe that would be where you mention “LEB” to get the extra upgrade :)

    August 13, 2010 @ 2:20 am | Reply
  35. @Donald

LEB promotion is just for the OVZ package :) And you just put in the comments field when ordering.

If you want XEN PV/XEN HVM, you can use the coupon VPS50OFF on any packages to get 50% off on your first invoice :)

(VPS50OFF will not work for the smallest OpenVZ plans and does not provide any free storage upgrades on any plans)

    Thanks

New nodes in Los Angels, US is going to i7 920 (2.66+ Ghz) – For San Jose we are exploring Dual Quadcore X3460/X5620 for XEN PV vs XEN HVM :)

But all new nodes in Germany going to be a mix of i7 920 and primarily for XEN HVM: i7 975 @ 3.33+ Ghz – Turbo-mode @ 3.60+ Ghz! Wow! :) + RAID10 protected storage (of course) for added reliability and performance :)

Alright, I was just making sure you knew. Though you didn’t respond to my more important question over the Ubuntu problems. I would very much like to know the situation before I put an order in, as I am planning on using Ubuntu. Thanks

    August 22, 2010 @ 1:56 pm | Reply
  60. @Koss I am on XEN PV package and Ubuntu on XEN PV and Ubuntu on OpenVZ have different templates. My issues was on XEN PV. OpenVZ templates are, which most providers use, official.

@NordicVPS Keep up the good work guys!

    August 22, 2010 @ 2:05 pm | Reply
  61. @Koss We only have some issues with the XEN PV template but if you require Ubuntu and XEN, consider our XEN HVM plans, you install Ubuntu directly from an ISO and you decide which packages you want to install.

On their OVZ512, on a softlayer 100MB test file in Seattle I can only reach 1.6MB/s, so the line speed actually must be 10mbps only.

    Sad…

    P.S, didn’t receive my 30GB…

But have to say that their SSH is pretty responsive compared to others I’ve seen…
And the SSH was stable, fricken stable!

  77. These guys are unbelievable. They deleted my VPS just like that without warning !!!

I purchased a VPS, Paid it and now it’s gone?

I got a refund of 9.95 from 2Checkout 1 week later I had paid to nordicVPS.
But I didn’t realized until now that my VPS would be deleted.
For some reason it marked as Fraud and refunded 1 week later but nordic didnt even email me or anything. just deleted my VPS out of nothing.

I spent so many hours setting up that VPS and it’s gone. Thrown away just like that !
    that is so disappointing.

I cant believe it they did that.

    That is totally unbelievable….

I have two VPS there. In past month i had about 40% uptime. But that is not uptime as expected, they crippled all VPSs on german nodes (they cant pay for servers so they go to few bigger). VPS’s work with one CPU Core at 800mhz because nodes are overcrowded. With that VPS u can’t do anything except for blog… Recently i moved customers to other server and wanted to use vps as seedbox (network is still good 1gbps), but when i do reinstall no vps can boot (but i can ping ip!?). Support don’t respond except for uniform messages like “we are moving VPS to other node”, “Moving failed, expect downtime”… So far they moved mu VPS THREE TIMES (ovz02, ovz03, vm03, vm09). Admin it is time for dead pool… They took our money and when bills came they are nowhere to be found… I lost 70$ with this b-e-e-p company…

yomero .. which provider is the best for proxy servers ? also uptime and dl speed.

        July 3, 2011 @ 5:51 am | Reply
        • Well, your question is a little bit general.

About the uptime and speed, you can read a lot of reviews here and other sites. Also, consider your location, just guessing, you are form Asia? Maybe you can consider a West Coast VPS.

About the proxy, I recommend you to read the Terms of Service of each provider, some of them doesn’t allow to run proxys. Other providers, allow you to use the service for private proxys. And finally, some of them allow public and private proxys. Then, this depends of your needs.

    • Your order was rejected since you used different names when signing up and we asked you to provide the correct name and address details.

We did not charge you since the order was rejected as fraud.

yes , as i explain above, i chose wrong country and use proxy to login ur page. I use Germany IP and forgot to chose my country. when i order with first acc , i couldn’t make order because country and ip do not match. and i can’t edit my acc to change country. i can’t find the option to edit the country and my detail info. that’s why i create secound account and order.

The money should be back in your account directly via 2Checkout.

If you use your brothers Paypal, let your brother do the order and payment. It will save you a lot of trouble.
