Contrary to last time, the discounts are now recurring. The LEB10% and LEB20% are valid for one month, while LEB30% is valid for one week. OpenVirtuals provide “traditional” hard drive space in addition to SSD space, so you can put your files where they fit best! They have their own IP addresses though these are not used in all locations. Since last time, they have added a Chicago location. Comments regarding their services have been generally positive.

Whatever you do please do not sign up with this company, they have no customer support, attempts to contact them via Facebook, twitter and email have not prevailed and after restarting my VPS I have disk space. This “company” is terrible. (also they did not validate the $8 off on the last lowendbox either.

    Completely unsatisfied.

    • The best way to contact us if you have an issue is really thru the ticket system and not via social networks.

Also, the LEB promo codes do have expiration dates.

I did that too! I will contact you again but I am sure you won’t respond. I am seriously unhappy and most real companies use social networks as a great means to contact customers. The only reason I contacted via social networks in the first place anyway was because my ticket was ignored.

        • Harrison: I’ve found your account with us, but I don’t see any tickets initiated. Nor do I see any inquiries under your name in our social network feeds. Our ticket system is working properly and we’ve successfully helped many of our clients. Please use it and let us know how we can help you. We’re here to help.

Again your suggesting its the customers fault for your company’s inability to handle problems effectively. The reason major VPS providers are what they are today is due to customer service, I doubt your company will be around to see that. No half-arsed approach can be taken to this and your customers are responding in a relevant manner.

          • Are you saying there is a lack of tech support although you haven’t even opened a trouble ticket?

We have 24/7 tech support, but we can only help if you specify the issue.

Although this forum is not for posting tech support issues, if you simply refuse to use the ticket system, you can at least describe your problem here rather than just complaining without even mentioning the issue.

We are truly here to help and will do our best, but we can’t help if we don’t know what the issue is.

I’ve had the cheap plan since last summer, and had perfectly good support when I needed it — which was only at the beginning, and I haven’t had any issues since then. I can’t speak to the performance compared to other providers but it never goes offline and costs two dollars per months, so I’m very happy. I had the same issue as you, disk space disappearing after reinstall, except I entered a support ticket and it was resolved in literally minutes. I don’t know why you would try to instead get support on facebook and twitter…

  2. “Contrary to last time, the coupon codes are now recurring. The LEB10% and LEB20% are valid for one month, while LEB30% is valid for one week.” Sooooo, are they recurring or aren’t they? Also, on the order form, I only see two location options, “New York” and “Chicago”. What if I want one NYC location over another?

    January 8, 2014 @ 12:15 am | Reply
    • The coupons are valid for a limited time, but the discounts will be recurring for life.

Currently, we only have space in one NYC location – Internap.

Worst website design. Also really bad idea force user to register first without seen what in your cart, just avoid troubles and spam

I am with openvirtuals for a couple weeks now (yearly mini plan with 5gb ssd) and I am using them as my main VPS/VPN for netflix/hulu/vudu etc. Although both the benchmarks (freebench & getipaddr) I ran through them ran terrible, i.e. ssd speed test is slower than all my other vps’s, it doesn’t really seem to be a bottleneck, maybe something is wrong with the vps config. Their net speeds also seem terrible with the benchmarks i.e. 0.9 mbit/s with NL (it gives me 10mbit/s with speedtest.net though which is 1mbit/s lower than my home connection). But from real life usage, it is the fastest vps for me from EU (best speeds and pings) and gets me the best speed results from speedtest, vudu when I use it as my vpn gateway. I watch vudu hdx, netflix & hulu hd without issues with them. If you are looking for something else than vpn I don’t know how they would fare for you, but if you need it for the above sites then I am suggesting you try them. Openvpn access server is also fully supported by them if you ask (ipt_mark & ipt_state) which many other providers are failing to provide / don’t know how to. Only issue I am having currently is that my IP was previously used by a spammer and it is blocked by spamhaus, asked the host to contact spamhaus by ticket but I am not sure if they took any steps as it is still blocked (can’t access some forums).

    • Sakis,
We’re glad to hear that you’re experiencing fast and stable speeds from our NYC location. Please accept our apologies for the blacklisted IP. We’ve made the delisting request and hope to hear from Spamhaus soon. Alternatively, if you like, we can switch your virtual to a different IP. Just open a ticket for the IP change request.

      Hi,
I just signed up with them a few days ago and have sent off numerous tickets, most due to not knowing what I was doing. I never got any answers, although it could be that my domain is blocked because of some spammers, so I will submit again with a gmail address. Basically, I want to get to where you are with VPN. I am now at the point where I need them to adjust iptables so that I can complete the VPN. It’s a pretty cool service and I have no complaints given the price. I don’t know how they can support everybody and still make a buck. Believe it or not, if this all works out for me, I will offer to pay more, not because I’m rich or stupid, but because I think this is a valuable service, it is worth more and I want them to be a stable, ongoing enterprise.

      • Bob: I’m glad you finally reached us via the ticket system. This is the best way for technical issues rather than the Contact Us links. Hopefully you’ve set up OpenVPN successfully and the server is working well for you.

  8. Do not sign up with this company, Service does NOT suck. Their has to be service for it to suck… iptables implimentation is broken, there are workarounds and patches (eg. http://blog.bodhizazen.net/linux/how-to-use-ufw-in-openvz-templates/ ) and then no errors but you cannot filter individual IP to individual port… Anyway, I could probably still have fixed that as well, but mangled iptables and had no access… So after spending three hours of my time, with something that is OPENVIRTUALS problem, I asked for them to re-install ubuntu or switch with opensuse or centos, etc. After 24 hours of waiting, they still have not responded. At 5 bucks, it isn’t worth spending hours and hours and days and days.

So, avoid pain and hassle, avoid OpenVirtuals…

    • Andre,

      I’ve reviewed your tickets.

We responded within an hour of your first ticket.

iptables is working and we have doublecheck with ufw and bastille which can be installed by the user. Both work fine.

Normally, per our FAQ, re-installs are done easily via our control panel. Hence, you did not need to request tech support to press buttons that you could have done yourself. Nonetheless we did this for you.

LowEndBox services such as ours are inexpensive because clients are generally capable of managing their own servers. At one point your vps was in danger of affecting the node due to zombie processes. Fortunately we were able to kill it and regain control of the vps.

  9. WTF? This deal is scarcely 1 month old, and it says it already expired. None of the coupon codes on this page even work.

Here’s a tip: If you are going to release a coupon code, expect to keep it in circulation for 3-6 months. Give the search engines time to index the content and drive traffic.

You’d think that would be obvious, but… :-/

    • Ok .. ALL promos are back on.

      February 7, 2014 @ 11:50 pm | Reply
      • It’s a little late for that, Eric, because by the time you posted your reply, I already ordered service and was not credited a discount.

More importantly, it appears your service doesn’t allow for automated payments.

I can’t have my service shut off every month because I didn’t take the time to manually say, “Please don’t shut my server off!” once a month.

        • Normally, our system (WHMCS, which most providers use) will setup a paypal subscription. Dunno what happened here. Please contact us via the ticket system and we’ll send you instructions on setting it up manually.

Recently, we’ve added annual offers for all our plans at deeply discounted rates. You may want to consider upgrading to these.

Either way, please contact us via the ticket system so we can resolve your all issues.

          March 11, 2014 @ 12:02 am | Reply
          • Indeed, I had done that. The support team suggested that I must’ve cancelled my subscription, but I can confirm that I was never signed up for a recurring payment via Paypal (and if that had been an option, I would’ve definitely opted for it; I automate *everything* for my business).

At any rate, thanks for your quick response… the actual service provision has been great, so I hope we can keep a good relationship going and would also recommend you take a look at these ancillaries (such as when, and for how long, promotions are offered, and also verifying that the subscription process is working effectively).

The little things can make or break ANY business, but in hosting, moreso than anywhere else.
