I’m in UK for a few months working but I live in a non EU country, I will have to buy from a computer on a UK network at work. If I fill in my non EU address at checkout is that OK? Also a friend at work will be paying on his UK registered credit card.

    • We would need a proof of address (recent utility bill is ideal) from the non-EU country if we are to remove the VAT

Nice offer – Good – additional 2 Gb RAM only 1 GBP and no VAT. Bad – No PayPal this will avoid potential clients from purchase :/ Not everyone comfortable with CC payments..

  6. Hi there,
We take BACs payments too! Sorry to say there is VAT on this offer, but if your a company you can claim it back, or if your outside the EU let us know and we can take the VAT off your first and recurring invoices.

Credit Cards mean unautorized charges all the time, when forgot cancel for example.. Bank transfers not reliable from outside EU,its not a free and fees much highter than cost of purchase. In EU it takes up to week to delivery Need a wait.

Afaik, BACS only works within the UK, so even not usage for people inside the EU but outside the UK. IKt would be great if they would support Paypal.

This appears to be a sick, sick deal. An extra 2GB RAM and a secondary 250GB drive for £1.98? Seems pretty much bang-on to me.

I would like to order a 2nd server as well with a SSD. Do you have any smaller/cheaper SSDs? One-time fee maybe? I really only need 30GB.

David, I’ll place another order tonight! If we pass the 5TB mark does the server get turned off or will be billed for the excess bandwidth at an acceptable rate?

          John

      • Hi John,
we do not block a server when it reaches the traffic limit, we will allow the server to carry on with an overage charge as sometimes a server going dark can have real impact on a business or online service. I have mailed you with full details as well as how you can view your traffic in the PoundHost portal.

        October 3, 2013 @ 4:25 am | Reply
      • Hi John,
We do not turn off a server unless a customer requests it, this can however be done in the PoundHost Portal. Customers tend to find a server suddenly going dark alarming and can harm their business so we do not do this, rather allow it to carry on and then charge overage fees on excess traffic. Traffic stats can be found in the portal where you can keep any eye on your daily and monthly usage.

How many extra IP’s are allowed? Since the CPU allows for VT, is + reasonable?

        October 8, 2013 @ 5:00 am | Reply
        • Hi there Jasper,
The system comes with 1 as default, we will normally allow a couple of extra IPv4 addresses however they are subject to RIPE justification.

I’ve had a PoundHost server before. It’s HDD crashed about 4 weeks after I ordered it.

This deal seems great, though, because I can order 2x HDDs in a software RAID-1 (mirror) configuration for protection against a HDD failure.

Had 64-bit Ubuntu installed (version is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). Two CPUs, each has a bogomips of 4655.00. IPv4 configured, no IPv6 (I think that can be requested?). Ordered it in the afternoon, was installed around 1am so ready by the next day.

No console access – always the biggest bugbear about PoundHost – but you can have the box reboot or re-installed with a new OS image using their web interface.

Ultimately – the price is right. Just worth going for that HDD+RAID1.

Actually a IPv6 address is supplied, you just have to find it in the web portal and then set it up in /etc/network/interfaces

(cut and paste your supplied IPv6 into the following template in address and gateway, also use a netmask of 64, not 128 as specified from the web portal):

      iface eth0 inet6 static
      	address 2a02:af8:1:1a99::4239
      	gateway 2a02:af8:1:1a99::1
      	netmask 64
      	pre-up echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0/autoconf
      October 16, 2013 @ 9:04 am | Reply
      • Hi again Anony Mous,
I will check on the /64 Vs. /128 issue.

    • Anony Mous,
Sorry to hear you had HDD issues, I hope they guys in the NOC fixed for you good and fast. As for the console, you do know that you can request a KVM to be attached to your server for a while to fix any issues. Just raise a ticket in your portal.

Interested in this, but if there is no console access how do we manage the server?

    November 17, 2013 @ 3:30 pm | Reply
    • Hi Suj,
Only just noticed this question. We give you full root access with SSH, the servers come installed and configured ready to go, if you require a KVM you can request one though the PoundHost portal (https://portal.poundhost.com/). If you require a control panel such as Plesk or WebMin these are also options.

Just a warning to other people wanting to buy from PoundHost: If you don’t pay your invoice and don’t continue using their service, they WILL send you to a collection agency (even if its only $20 GBP).

Got one of these this week and I’m very impressed so far, I’ve had to move a lot of large files via wget and it’s been maxed out at 100mbs for most of them, also transferred them to a US Mirror server which was a respectable speed from the UK averaging 70-100Mbs. I went for extra 2GB Ram and an extra 250 drive, it’s such a good deal. I’ve experienced no downtime, and the support have been very responsive even at night. I flashed it with a new ISO and couldn’t get in, the password didn’t work. They responded within 10 mins with the fresh password, and this was after midnight. Hope it stays this good and thanks for the great deal.

    Hi,

What upgrades are possible, ie WHM/CPanel, more IPs etc?

Also, what guarantee that its not going to vanish, have just been with one cheap server and lost 2 months of work! Any info you can give me would be good!

    Cheers – S
