    • I second that too

Personalized outstanding support. I just miss the part about not having more xen-lowend boxes from QW

        • The reason why Asim asks is that we’ve had 3 or 4 “Quick” companies in the past. Most of the haven’t done too well.

Did you open up a ticket and ask them what happened? (We try to get folks to post their ticket numbers here when possible or if the issue is still occurring.)

i did not submit any ticket. i just planned to use it as a backup server. but it is too unstable at that time, so i gave it up.

    • that was the announced migration from old Phoenix rented servers to our own gears and network, it was posted everywhere in the announcement and emailed several times it might went to your spam folder but that process takes quite a while, we need to return all IPs from upstream as we already have our own.

  3. Samer:

    agree with Andy. Quickweb do:

    1. change IP without any message.

    2. VZ in phoenix is not very stable, auto reboot by itself.
    at least 1 times/week.

    • random reboots were caused by untable CentOS 6.0 but we already get rid of it and been stable since in Phoenix, regarding change of IP, we emailed clients that we are renumbering as we already got our own ARIN IP blocks and we need to return existing Phoenix IPs to upstream, also we move clients to our own network and brand new machines as stated per our last lowendbox promo. :)

  4. For reference I have a 256meg Xen in Germany with an extra IP address. I paid $72.50 for the first year and what would probably be $107.50 for the upcoming.

Have to admit that I’m not as gung ho as I was with them previously. Had three tickets during the year that really never got fully dealt with and when I tried to bring up the issue here on LEB, was treated rather poorly.

Besides that, I really haven’t had any real down time or unreachable issues. I do notice though that my 128meg KVM Pyramid vps seems a tad quicker and snapper with commands. For example, the Pyramid flies through an apt-get while the Quickweb takes a few seconds. That may be something I have set wrong though or something on my end. Connecting via SSH seems to go faster with the Pyramid as well.

I will probably not be renewing.

      • I don’t know if I would go that far. Like I said, hardware is fine as far as I’ve seen and the slowdown isn’t that bad. Most folks have had positive experiences in the past and I did previously as well.

Trust me. We have a lot worse hosts around here. Plus I doubt Quickweb is going to do a runner like some others we can name.

    • we are doing our best but we need to balance everything and we are treating all unmanaged customers fairly and not seeing someone quite special because he is very vocal in forums etc, fact is a lot of people are getting what they paid even this they are barrel bottom plans these servers are delivering and with solid uptime, they maybe isolated cases on some machines once in a while but machine can fail and we do our part to fix them immediately. I’m not promising 100% up time no host can provide 100% uptime they can just promise you.

      • Roel, I didn’t ask for special treatment and at no time would I ask for such a thing unless it was absolutely necessary. The only time I have done so was I asked for an extention on a bill and I was granted that. To be honest I’m rather insulted that you made it sound like I was asking for such in your comment there. Yes, I do get special treatment from some places on line but at no time has that occurred here. In fact it usually involves me doing work for the company involved such as programming or helping out in their support forums. For example right now I have a dot com covering my emergency storage locker that I keep in case I get sick. If it had, I would have once again stated such in my post. You may have noted that I have stated the free month I was granted many times during my reviews.. For me, ethics means a great deal.

I asked twice for a bill to be reviewed and it wasn’t.

I asked for a corrected link and wasn’t given it. I even specially pointed out that I was still waiting for the link and there wasn’t any follow up.

And I don’t even remember the third ticket anymore.

(Forgive me for not giving the ticket numbers. Panera closed 4 minutes ago and I’m being glared at.)

I have to also admit that I’m rather surprised that you’re listing my support tickets here on a public site without asking for permission. I would think that would be a violation of privacy although I don’t find your policy right off on your site. (Hmmm, never noticed that before.)

I’m also rather surprised to see my review to be categorized as me being “upset” as I think that’s an overstatement. I have a problem with the support that I received. I pointed that out. I even defended your company twice while doing so.

To be honest what upsets me about all this is that I’m aware that management reviews all tickets. At least that’s what I’ve been told in the past. While three tickets weren’t followed up, those three tickets also went past management without being dealt with.

I just remembered a fourth issue. I was told by your support that a Debian 6.0 32 bit install wasn’t going to be made available because the Debian folks weren’t going to do one. That turned out to be incorrect. Not a biggie but I include it since we’re discussing support concerns.

I’ve given your company the benefit of the doubt and I realize that the VPS that I have been provided is unmanaged and unsupported. Two of the unresolved tickets were actually billing related and were not concerning the VPS. One is actually a billing issue and I was rather surprised to see it ignored. I learned a long time ago and no billing issue ever gets ignored because those are the ones that come back to haunt you. That’s a lesson quite a few providers here still have to learn.

I have to admit I’m more curious about the difference in apt-get speed.

Now you’ll have to forgive me but I don’t want to annoy the red haired cutie who’s glaring at me any longer.

        • Sorry Mike that was not the intention but to go straight to the point where the problem lies so i can deal with them to your satisfaction, if you brought the issue to the public then be prepared to discuss some details in the public i guess otherwise you can always contact me in private and we take it from there and work with you till you are satisfied. Mike has been a good customer of us over the years and you are free to email me straight anytime if there’s something you want to escalate to me or management’s attention… i think it is about time to reward you for your long patronage and loyalty, i will email you shortly :)

    • Mike your last 3 tickets are quite simple, i cannot see where you among them makes you upset, one is RDNS request which was done quickly, or maybe the one that you requested IPtables modules and Joe replied under 5 minutes telling you in XEN you can use modprobe to enable these iptable modules you need which was explained. OpenVZ we do it for clients for XEN client can do it as XEN is more flexible. You also requested temporary drive space which was granted.

Please tell me which one that makes you upset and i will re-investigate. email me rg(at)quickweb.co.nz and i will ensure this will be dealt with to you satisfaction :)

  5. Paul:

It seems that $15-$20.00/year is the usual price points on low spec (128MB RAM, ≥3GB), lowend VZ these days. Just two weeks ago at least, VPSCheap released a $1.59/month offer, which also falls at $19/year, although at lower specs. Seems like the market is settling down on the prices and competing on the plan specs now more than ever – which should be great for us LEBsters (lobsters) :)

          Hi Roel!

What’s your policy on relay TOR nodes (NOT exit nodes which would be open proxies) and IRC bouncers (I only see you prohibit IRC servers, while bouncers are clients, but I’d like to be on the safe side in regards to TOS)

          Thanks

VPS is not a commodity. There are huge differences in data center, connectivity, server hardware. Hardly a new entrant can offer comparable services at the same (low) prices than an experienced competitor operating with scale and solid finantial results. Chances are the new entrant after a couple of months will degrade the service or will decide to sell the customers and get out of business.

      November 13, 2011 @ 6:00 pm | Reply
      • And you will quickly discover that specs don’t mean a whole lot when a provider does a runner or goes belly up or the datacenter cuts their uplink or they get flooded or the high schooler who “owns” the company discovers girls or a million other things that puts them out of business.

I think most folks here look at pricing instead of company history though. That’s why we still have people signing up for the ipaps and the yardvpses who get listed here.

“100GB/month data on 10Mbps” is not even funny. It’s not like you are in some boutique location like Austria or Sweden to justify that. Most providers even in Europe (where bandwidth is somehow more scarce) still manage to provide more than this (and on unthrottled port, often even 1 Gbps). Heck, even India-based MountSpot provides more bandwidth. And you’re in the middle of USA with gobs of bandwidth lying around, where 100GB @ 10 mbit just sounds like selling sand in a desert for $1 per gram.

    November 14, 2011 @ 8:24 am | Reply
    • yes we have that but you need to pay a bit more to upgrade, why include that for people who don’t need 100Mbit? let them pocket the extra cash instead of paying for something they don’t need and let the people who need it pay extra. We have standard plans with 1Gps port and obviously it cost more.

Ordered the Budget VZ III, activated instantly, runs TF2 like a dream.

Curiously, I noticed that the $5/yr CPU addon has disappeared and now only remains the $10/yr CPU addon. I don’t want 4 cores but would have liked 2. :(

What a dumb request. Why should 10MBit/s be a joke? Calculate the space you have and the data you can transfer it’s quite adequate for the price you pay. You “only” have 100GB traffic so 10MBit/s is more than enough. I sometimes think people misunderstand, what a LEB is.

@Roel – Do you have a test IP for Phoenix? Found 174.138.164.131 from 2010 QW offer on LEB but this times out before reaching the IP…assuming this is before switch to your own network. I’ve seen this question go unanswered in the last QW offer. Google/WHT gives me test IP for other locations but not PhxNAP…argh

  17. I had hoped previously to just mention my review and move on. Unfortunately things have progressed and I feel the need to cover them. I hope I don’t offend any one from buyvm with my spelling in this comment. I’m sitting here in about 45 degree weather with the netbook balanced on my lap trying to get some work done while being pestered by local homeless, the police out looking for folks, and half wasted well wishers piddling on near by trees in front of the Bank of America Headquarters building. Lots of fun.

I received an email from Roel as mentioned up above. An email with the subject heading of “Notice of VPS removal from the server”. Now I realize that Roel probably went into their support system, found a random ticket and just emailed it back to me but of all of the ones that he could have picked, that wasn’t the one he should have chosen. Seeing such a subject line was rather surprising and, considering the topic on hand, rather in poor taste.

At no time within the email is there any mention of outstanding tickets or with any issue with having tickets fully dealt with. Roel actually goes on for a bit saying that I have freedom of speech to say what I want as long as they’re allowed to do the same. That’s fine and I don’t have a problem with it. In fact from the tone of the email I feel that he doubts the issue that I raised. From their previous offer where I raised the concern of the broke URL, I received much of the same tone from him,

I do realize that these VPS’es are unmanaged as I believe Roel and others state up above. Again, have no problem with that although the issues that I raised were not VPS related but billing and account related. Those tickets I feel should have been dealt with and to let them go unfulfilled presents a questionable environment concerning where money is changing hands. I know from my retail management training, that’s the one place where a full understanding and clarification is required else one is open to legal concerns.

And since I’m ethical, I will mention that I was offered my pick of free services and discounts. They included 30% off the life of the account, the second IP addresses that I have on this account for free, or a free upgrade to a higher level of allocation fr the account.

I have just canceled the VPS via their support system.

For the most part, the VPS worked fine. The Pyramid 128 KVM that I’m also using seems a bit snappier as I have mentioned but at no time has the Quickweb 256 Xen been slow, as far as I can tell. Webpages seemed to be delivered fine, apt-gets and installs went fairly fast, and I even had to limit my speed in rtorrent else I would use up my bandwidth allocation before the end of the month. For the most part never had an issue with the hardware.

There were some reboots at the beginning of the time period as I have mentioned before. As far as I’m able to tell, I as a client never received any notification of such until folks (including myself) mentioned them here on the site. Even a posting or mention afterwards would have been a plus. I do not recall a status page either but I have never gone looking for one. (I think I remember suggesting one but a year right now is just to far back to remember.)

Thank you for your time. I await the onslaught of insults that my posting here seems to generate.

    • Forgot one point.

No, I’m not doing a chargeback or refund request like some folks seem to enjoy doing around here. I did in fact use the VPS as such and got my money’s worth out of it.

  18. Is this offer still valid?
The ipv6 that you offer, is that native?

  19. I’m sorry but I can no longer recommend these folks. I raised the issues about tickets not being followed up on and resolved, random reboots and other problems. Instead of trying to resolve these matters, I am not being harassed by Roel, one of their support technicians. Escalation to management and/or ownership has been asked for but not received.

Again, while my vps worked for the most part fine, support (And mind you this is for account, billing and policy issues) is very lacking. There doesn’t seem to be any interest in improving and/or correcting raised issues and concerns. Also management and ownership seems uninterested in support and staffing concerns.

I’m actually sorry I went with these folks.

Folks can review additional discussion here in the comments:
