  3. Hello Mr Roel,

I would like to ask, is it allowed to use the tun/tap and the iptables?

    August 22, 2011 @ 8:53 am | Reply
    • Hello Erawan, tun can be enabled by request for OpenVZ VPS.

@Sonic, if you notice order form description say’s 256MB RAM VPS which is the original plan, in this case you will get 300MB RAM instead so there’s little freebie :)

I tried to run an Openvpn Server on it (due to the lack to set one up from source)

But It Don’t Start because Because of the lack of iptables so I can say Tun/tap works but iptables for some reason not… :(

LEA frowns on people using the comments here as a support forum. It’s one thing to report a problem here and that’s fine but most of us realize the next step is via a support ticket.

Since some of us actually believe in ethics and professionalism, I will mention that I received a free month of service a long while ago due to a billing issue. :)

I have had a 256MB VPS from QuickWeb in Germany for almost a year now. On stability they scores big (248 days of uptime for my VPS at the moment, and the last reboot was my fault). But on IO speed have they not been any good. At the moment are the IO speed on my VPS from QuickWeb the slowest of my VPSes, beaten by 15$/year VPSes with good margin.

Done, working as intended (because the node was full) was the answer. But the IO speed has improved some now. From the lower 20ish MB/s it was earlier in the week to the 30ish MB/s it has been today.

I asked support about this but was told

the network might at peak now and since you are non on dedicated port you can try again sometime after 6 hours

. My Burst.net VPS (Scranton) gives normal results (11.0M/s, 9.01M/s, 5.84M/s and 10.9M/s) when run at the same time.

Website load time is noticeably slower from my location (UK) than the Burst.net VPS too. Not sure if this is a keeper, which I’m surprised about seeing as this comes recommended by LEB users. Will give it some time first though.

It sounds like you’ve been capped to 10Mbit/s judging by those speed tests. It’s perfectly fine since they’re trying to keep a quality service.

Thanks. I continued mailing with support and it seems it was still capped:

I had previously received a couple of emails from support telling me the upgrade had been completed, so I’m not sure how that happened. Speeds are now fine:

You’re right. All hosts should be proactively monitoring servers to make sure no adjacent OpenVZ customers are abusing the node.

Having said that, in my experience, Quickweb is in fact doing that. I have never had an issue in the time I’ve been with them in Phoenix (6 months or more now, I think).

Sorry Yomero, comprehension has finally dawned. To anyone else struggling: log into QuickWeb VPS manager (this is SolusVM). The very first page you see lists the VMs you have, and there’s a column for node. Also – do “tracert YOURIP” (from the command line) and the penultimate hop will show the node name/server hostname.

Just ordered 2 of these, one in Phoenix and one in UK. UK one gets good speeds (30MB/s) but Phoenix only got 10MB/s yesterday and 3MB/s today (the cachefly 100meg test). I put in a ticket to see if they can transfer my Phoenix VPS to Germany.

The Ordering process was very smooth and efficient! When i put in a ticket for the upgrades and to enable tun/tap they answered within 30min and finished within an hour i believe!!! AWESOME SERVICE! Would recommend these VPS’s.

Well, they have a $5 charge for moving VPS, so i opted not to. Instead i just purchased a Germany one and got the 100mbit/300meg mem upgrade. It hit 100mbit on the cachefly and they responded to my ticket VERY quickly.

Overall i’m VERY happy with this provider as they answer support tickets very quickly and there vps’s are awesome for the price! Although i’d stay away from the Phoenix VPS, as it seems to be iffy. Currently it’s ok, speeds a little slow at times, but like i said, great company, and all other locations are awesome.

  22. Just got annoyed with Quickweb. They’re having an issue with a raid card/drive and sent out an email linking to a monitoring page.

The url they used is a shortner. Not cool and I have to admit kind of unprofessional.

    September 12, 2011 @ 12:18 pm | Reply
    • Unprofessional? we want to gauge how people are reading the notice the more hits the more we are aware there are people who knows the issue we are dealing for decision making purpose. Also it is posted on announcement page of our website!

      September 12, 2011 @ 12:27 pm | Reply
      • If you are using Google Analytics you can just add those `utm` parameters to the query string. Or doing a redirect using your own domain.

I think with drmike, the issue is that he often works in the library where commonly used URL shorteners are blocked.

        September 13, 2011 @ 12:04 am | Reply
      • “Hi, we have an important announcement but we’re going to send you an indirect link that may or may not work for folks. Oh and when you open up a support ticket to ask what the correct url is to this important announcement, we’re going to reply with ‘Don’t worry about it. The issue’s been resolved.’ and still not answer the question anyway by not giving you the ink that you asked for.”

Yes kind of dropped the ball on this one. I hate saying that but…

        Normally they’re better than this.

Many public networks like libraries and free public wifi’s have common url shortners blocked as they’re commonly used for sex/porn sites. Also some networks don’t allow such redirection either as a prevention of browser hijacking.

Also it is posted on announcement page of our website!

Really? First I knew about that. Not sure why I wasn’t told that when I asked.

        September 13, 2011 @ 1:07 am | Reply
        • Well it is a shortened link going to announcement page, wasn’t aware you got issue with that Mike so we take note of this for future notices. We are focus on resolving issues and prevent data losses, in fact issues was resolved well under 30minutes of detection where historically other hosts takes days to resolve! Take our apologies if you think we did not done great job last night :( thought customers will get happy but apparently still all our best effort arent still good enough for some! Anyway im just sad :( sorry everyone hardware can fail but we done our best though not 100% probaby on all aspects as we are very focus on the most important task! Save your data and bring you back online before you even know disaster just strucked us.

          September 13, 2011 @ 1:23 am | Reply
        • I doubt you’ll ever get 100% of customers happy, because that’s just business. You could probably record it to 95% if you really tried (and likely reduce your profits in particular ways), but some retails I’ve worked in only pushed for 50% customer satisfaction.

          Can’t please everyone :)

          September 13, 2011 @ 1:48 am | Reply
        • They closed the ticket without resolution.

And from Roel’s response up there, I gather he still doesn’t see it as a problem. He wants to bring up the hardware issue again which is fine but in this case, it’s really a customer service concern.

You know I wouldn’t dream of sending out such a link to our clients, especially since to some it would be a foreign domain that’s not involved with one of their or mine sites. We try to drill security into folk’s heads on the net and then turn around and do something silly like this. I know most of my clients wouldn’t dream of clicking on such a link.

This could have been handled by Quickweb so much better.

        • hey there, the ticket is set to auto-closed after 48 hours via cron job, it was not closed intentionally… please forgive us if we are failing sometimes of your expectations, you are anyhow perfectly move to a better host that can meet your expectations, there are a lot of going on at QuickWeb part of growing and will definitely will iron out some details of operations, hope you can forgive us for issues like this as we prioritise very critical things at the background :)

We did not imagined that once mistake of sending shorten link will be very very serious issue to you so won’t happen again so i do not need to worry about this details and focus on big issues.

  31. ugh!:

I had their “EURO VPS 512” service for 5 months. I have 8 vps:es around the globe that are monitored from two different places as well as keynote. The availability is really good for all of them but this one. Last month I had service unavailable 37 times (lasted more than one minute).

I do not recommend their EURO VPS 512 service.

    Cheers,
    R

I can’t say anything about their VPS but here is my comments on their business.

When I first signed up the first confirmation I got contained additional terms that could not be derived from the TOS read before I sent my money. Apparenlty they had a hidden AUP that I yet have not found any link to other than the reply from them when I explicitly asked about it. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.quickweb.co.nz+AUP does not give any results.

I never used their service, canceled it the same day. I got their reply but even though I stated the above concern they did not recognize it as a problem and refused to return my money by simply ignoring my request.

To add, their TOS contain a clause that allows them to change the terms at any time. These kind of conditions is not valid, at least in Sweden and I would assume in Europe as well, since they operate there. Still this was not something they considered an issue either.

Finally the same day I ordered and canceled they replied with a confirmation of the cancellation. Still I now, one month later, got a new invoice. I have had this last issue with many providers which all fall in the same category.

    • Peter, AUP and TOPS links are availabe at the bottom of our website i’m not sure what you are talking about it is hidden better check our website first. Regarding invoice it might be WHMCS glitch and can be ignored or reported an we will cancel it with no issue. There are many host with similar TOS/AUP it is pretty standard and definitely you have the right to chose any host that will satisfy your requirements and wish you the best.
