LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

QuickWeb - $4.99 384MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

QuickWeb Roel from QuickWeb actually emailed me this a while ago and I was going to post this offer when their last offer is more than 30 days old. Well, INBOX mismanagement but it’s good that the offer is still available. This is a special March offer for the LowEndBox readers with upgrades. Use this link to order, and this is what you’ll get for $4.99/month

  • 384MB guaranteed/450MB burstable memory (upgraded from 256MB/384MB)
  • 10GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps (upgraded from 10Mbps)
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in Germany with Equinix. QuickWeb has pretty rock solid service, and LowEndBox.com is currently hosted on a VPS managed by QuickWeb (in Softlayer, Dallas TX). Cheap offers will get scarce though, according to Roel, as the IPv4 availability issue causing the price to go up. Small players will be purged I guess, or there will be more push towards IPv6.

How is the bandwidth limits on quickweb handled? I was looking at the VZ2 plan and it offers 2TB of bandwidth. What percentage of this is upload/download.

ok, first they don’t offer Debian 6 templates at the moment, now second issue. I setup my VPS using standard lenny image, first login and first command i run is apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

lots of errors, seems like they use an old image and i have to manually fix the sources.list

i know these are minor glitches but i expected a little more for this provider. Just hope the node where my VPS is will be stable and fast.

@Rambaldi dotdeb packages now are signed, so before apt-get you have to

          # gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-key 89DF5277
          # gpg -a --export 89DF5277 | apt-key add -

          than you can vi /etc/apt/sources.list

change the /etc/apt/source.list accordingly. you can use cheatsheet from http://debgen.simplylinux.ch

then run apt-get install debian-archive-keyring and do update/upgrade after that.

  8. IPv4 Availability at Softlayer is almost non-existent at this point. It’s pretty sad, actually. Softlayer used to hand out IPv4 addresses like candy and now those of us that need them for legitimate business purposes can’t really get them as easily. We hit IP number 7400 last week and got cut off by Softlayer as they’ve essentially run out of IP addresses themselves. Going direct with ARIN is the only way at this point, and there’s about 40 days left until ARIN is out of IP addresses.

    I dislike IPv4 right about now :D

    • IPv6 FTW! :)

Its a shame that everyone get bugged by the IPv4 shortage but ISPs does not seem care about rolling out IPv6 to consumers.

Anyone with an ISP that provides native IPv6 on their broadband?

      March 24, 2011 @ 11:16 am | Reply
      • I personally don’t. Comcast is starting trials on IPv6 over here, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The last time I enabled dual-stack on my Cisco router (WRVS4400N), everything decided to go haywire for my OS X and Linux machines.

I wish everyone was native IPv6 already so we could get this transition over with.

        IPv6 is a mess:

Instead of making every IPv4 address an *automatic* IPv6 address they have designed it poorly to create administrative burdens for everyone. Those who designed IPv6 were idiots who didn’t consult geniuses like DJB.

with reference to ticket no. 942668 i was given a VPS for one month cause my previous vps didnt work properly. i was told that my account would be valid for one month from the date the new VPS started, but within 15 days my VPS was shut, my account was deleted without informing me. i was out of town for a vacation and when i came back i got this surprise. all my sites were down for 5 days and i lost all my loyal visitors cause of their mistake.

this is the second change with quickweb and they failed.

    kindly return my money back

This is unfortunate to hear, I will look into it, you must have received invoice and once it was left overdue for certain number of days it will automatically be removed by the system.

I had a look and saw the system generated invoice with due date March 2, you originally subscribed suscribed 30/1/2011, so it’s got the whole february running and the system automatically removed on the 5th or 6th after several overdue notices and suspension notices.

You should’ve contacted us immediately because we got automated system, please email me directly rg(at)quickweb.co.nz
