RamNode LLC have been featured three times before, with their last offer being posted in mid December. I have quickly reviewed that thread and all I could find were good reviews about them – not a single bad comment in sight. That could partly explain how RamNode finished an impressive third in our Q4 2012 Top Providers poll. Servers will be provisioned instantly once you have paid unless the plan is out of stock. Although KVM servers are available instantly, customers are responsible for installing the Operating System. Only today a RamNode review was posted on our sister-site LowEndTalk.

RamNode take remote backups of each VPS image on a weekly basis. They keep each backup for seven days, at which time it is overwritten with a new backup. Apparently, customers can request a VPS restore through a support ticket. They offer a variety of Linux 32 and 64-bit OS templates and ISOs. Paypal and Google Wallet are both accepted. As usual, you may want to review their Terms of Service and Acceptable Usage Policy before purchasing.

      • That’s correct! I submitted the ad a month ago, so there have been a few changes since then. Perhaps Liam or one of the writers can update that fact.

Yep, I am a RamNode customer. Zero complaints. Definitely a top provider for a good reason.

nLayer bandwidth will be a welcomed addition. Will shore up some goofed routes a network monitor like me nitpicks over from time to time.

    February 12, 2013 @ 6:24 am | Reply
    • The nLayer Bandwidth will be helpful for me. Bcz, from my ISP, the network is routed through Telia.Net, but latency of Telia from my ISP is about 400+ ms :( where nLayer is 250-300 ms.

      • I hear you guys :) But we’re focusing on the west coast US first at this point. Getting IPs in Europe sounds like it’s pretty messy, whereas we have our own blocks from ARIN over here. If I’m not mistaken, I could only request a /22 from RIPE, and that would not last us very long at all… I’m not ruling the idea out completely, but it’s not in our plans for the immediate future.

Go west coast US, I’ll sign up. There is a relative scarcity of good west coast hosts, and lots of good European ones. Edis, Prometeus, and Inception are all in Europe. I guess Hostigation has a Los Angeles site but all the others I see listed are less well known.

          February 16, 2013 @ 11:39 am | Reply
  9. I think that EU location is not necessary. Bcz, from other EU providers, the port is capped. On the other hand, at RamNode, 1Gbit port is connected. You may not get full speed to EU. But, will get at least 60% of that. But, EU providers can’t give you that.

  13. I am with RamNode on a quarterly trial basis (256MB OpenVZ SSD cached). I originally signed up for the IPv6 capabilities (they’ll give you additional free IPv6s for nothing, BTW, no questions asked), but I’ve loved the speeds, quick response times, and great prices (after coupons). This isn’t technically a “new” offer, as the coupon code LEB35 (lifetime, BTW) has been active since their last offer, but it is worth noting that disk space has increased and a few additional plans have been added, so it’s great that RamNode’s getting some more attention. When my quarter runs out, I’m probably going to open a ticket to switch to yearly billing. Great service all around.

I have never seen better professionalism and customer service than from Nick and RamNode. I have run through many many services, and never had such a personal (and fast) experience with RamNode. Nick went out of his way to find a .gzip backup of my data after I TERMINATED my own service, and it had been dead for a while. They are a confident yes choice. BTW, do any technical benchmarks and comparisons and you will see they rank at the very top, but its the small things and customer service which is most important to me.

If you are running torrents, submit a ticket to have your vps rate limited. Ramnode shut me down for using the entire gigabit line. They do not have a system in place to deprioritize torrent traffic. Furthermore, I was warned of a possible DoS when running a file transfer at 25Mbps. I won’t pass judgement here. I expected more sophistication.

Overall my review is neutral. Many companies over promise and under deliver. Ramnode over delivers. However, I wouldn’t trust it with production items.

    March 10, 2013 @ 7:51 am | Reply
    • To be clear for the visitors here, I shut you down because your traffic was over 950Mbps for a considerable amount of time and going to a bunch of IPs. It’s extremely rare to see a false positive at that level. As I said in your ticket:

“The goal of shutting down a VPS in this situation is to prevent abuse reports and to keep the network stable for the rest of our clients. I’m sure you can understand that we have to do what is necessary to ensure that as many people as possible are receiving the best possible service. When your traffic looks exactly like one of the frequent DoS abuses we see around here, we will not hesitate to stop it quickly. Any unusual traffic patterns are a cause for concern, particularly when a single VPS is sending 950Mbps+ to a wide variety of IPs.”

Your particular host node was already behaving strangely, which is what piqued my interest when I noticed your smaller traffic spikes upfront. I would rather err on the side of keeping a close eye on our network than assuming everything is fine and dandy when the numbers are considerably abnormal. When a user goes from 25Mbps to a sustained 950Mbps, that is a cause for concern 99 out of 100 times.

Your opinion is your own, but I would kindly remind you that your experience is a unique one and shouldn’t be conclusive evidence to judge our production worthiness, so to speak. The fact that we allow torrenting at any significant scale is rare from what I can tell. To further clarify, we are ratelimiting your connection in accordance with our AUP; so we do have a system in place.

It is not my intent to use LowEndbox for support.

My post is proactive to prevent this happening in the future to someone else. Ask for a 100Mbps rate limit – then you won’t have any trouble torrenting as much as your bandwidth transfer allows. This is an acceptable solution in my opinion.

Allowing torrenting to a significant scale is rare – likely correct. I run irssi, legal torrents and file transfers home because my home routing is terrible. It is not my concern whether this is viewed as abnormal. Ramnode’s network management is effective, albeit reactive. My primary gripe is there was not an automated system in place. The fact that downtime is used ahead of other solutions is why I do not feel comfortable running production items here. This is not unique to Ramnode so it may not be an issue to others.

It’s much easier and wiser to limit your own throughput inside your torrent client. When said feature doesn’t exist there are other options within the OS to do this yourself.

Impressed with RamNode and their response to this though.
