LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

RansomIT – $16.50/Quarter 128MB RAM KVM in Australia

Following popular demand: Oliver, from RansomIT, has expanded to KVM services. In lieu of this, they’ve sent in this exclusive offer for LowEndBox readers.

128MB Australia KVM

  • 128MB RAM
  • 8GB Raid-10 Diskspace
  • 1 CPU Core
  • 25GB Bandwidth
  • 100Mbps Port Speed
  • KVM/SolusVM
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • 10 IPv6 Address
  • $16.50 USD per quarter ($5.50 per month)
  • Order Link
  • Location: Adelaide, Australia.

RansomIT have been in the webhosting business for over 5 years and have been featured twice before on LowEndBox. Both previous offers have been on the OpenVZ virtulization platform but, as mentioned above, they’ve recently expanded to include KVM. Before you start to complain about the lack of bandwidth, data costs in Australia are extremely high compared to everywhere else. Oliver explains that these plans “are not meant to compete with the average “LEB” offer, but offer users… a presence in Australia for geographic reasons”. Nodes are using the Intel Xeon E5430 CPU and have a mixed array of drives, minimum – a 7200rpm SAS drive, in RAID10.

At present, their sole payment method is Paypal. Their refund policy is simple “No refunds for being naughty” but refunds for unused time only are “OK if you find the service poor”. RansomIT do not permit the following on their servers: anything TOR related, game servers, spamming, torrents, newsgroups or adult content hosting. As usual, we recommend that you read their Terms of Service.

As always, while the the bandwidth allocation looks low, more often than not, we way OVER estimate our own requirements.

Good to see AU LEB offers, and to top it off a bloody KVM deal!

Nothing but a quality service – thanks Oliver.

Some Australian providers provide up to 1Tb bandwidth at the same cost for OVZ or XEN boxes 25 Gb too low for this price

I don’t think there are any providers in Australia selling a VPS at this price regardless of specifications.

Well for all I care (as the owner of Ransom IT) you can post a link here. Otherwise I’ll assume they are Australian companies with servers overseas as jcaleb has said below. :)

So just tell us the providers name please? I am sure many would appreciate it and if I lose a few potential customers because of it I will still be able to afford a meal tomorrow.

        • Heh, Richard. Yes, I’ve also found it with the same request. :)
As I know vortex-vps is a new hosting company and it’s a bit risky using it.
Also so low prices. Dedicated servers for $15/m only (Mini dedi’s). Very weird.

Ahh, I see. I have a VPS with Vortex as well. I haven’t had any problems but the most important point worth mentioning is that they are based in Sydney. A city almost 5x larger than Adelaide and basically the centre of Australia’s internet connectivity to the outside world. It’s cheaper to get data from Sydney to the US per mbit than between Adelaide and Melbourne which is the next closest capital city.

Anyway if Australia gets nuked your VPS in Sydney will go down before the one with Ransom IT does. :-D

They ‘Vortex VPS’ refuse to give out test ips for the Australian location.
So what are they hiding ?
How is a potential customer able to check the latency, peering etc.
This gives me a strange feeling Vortex is hiding something.

          January 19, 2013 @ 2:57 pm | Reply
        • SwordfishBE, yes. They did not want to provide test IP to us too. :(

          January 19, 2013 @ 3:31 pm | Reply
        • SwordfishBE:

I then asked for the ASN number of there network. But that was refused. The reason given was ‘We do not permit test IPS due to our Firewall systems.’, I won’t be buying there :)
But I’m a happy RansomIT OpenVZ user so, why would I change.

        • Lucas:

But so far, looks like they take over even a EDIS for now with amount of locations Worldwide. Not a bad start for a new provider, many others just stick with USA only :)

        • Lucas, it was a good VPS from vortex-vps.com. It was… :)))
They said goodbye to Xen VPS in Australia (all customers lost their data) and at this time Linux is not available as OS on the Cloud Servers. So no Australia in vortex-vps.com any more…

I just wanted to share my recent experience with RansomIT.

Oliver was extremely prompt in his reply to my enquiry at 12.30am. He was meticulous to ensure all my questions were answered; he is obviously on the ball.

Promptly I signed up and now have a small VPS. I was able to install the OS myself via VNC (which was really quick) using a selection of images I could mount. I really enjoyed having the extra flexibility to completely manage my VPS.

Thanks Oliver for your high quality and personalise service.
