Anthony from Ruby Ring Technologies, a Las Vegas based boutique hosting shop, emailed me over the weekend on their exclusive offers to LowEndBox readers. Use promo code lowendbox to get 50% off recurring discount, which marks their lowest priced package “VPS 256” to $4.98/month.
- 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
- 10GB storage
- 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth
- OpenVZ/HyperVM
Servers are with Softlayer in Dallas TX. Haven’t seen a HyperVM provider for a while and hopefully issues has been ironed out for production use again. The attractiveness of this package would be its 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth at Softlayer. Ruby Ring Tech has been in business for quite a few years (domain registered back in 2007) especially with shared hosting — at least those in the testimony page appear to be small business on typical shared hosting accounts. You should be able to find out a bit more about the owner by googling around.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
“Cooped up? Tank to Small?”
They probably meant “too”? I think this is a pretty big typo on main page.
the whmcs pages loads very slow.
Yes, for me too. WHMCS is very slow
WHMCS is pretty quick for me..
@LEA
When you say “issues has been ironed out for production use again” there was no 100% proof it was hyperVM’s fault in the first place.
From Wikipedia “However, the attacker(s) posted their method of attack on a popular webhosting forum, stating that they gained access by the owner’s poor choice of passwords and password reuse, and not by any bugs in HyperVM.”
Rus even admits it technically by saying “I would probably have to say passwords with HyperVM being used as the tool. Totally unexpected and has knocked me for six”
Yup. There is no proof that HyperVM is at fault, nor is there any proof that HyperVM is completely innocent. I’ve seen the old source code of HyperVM at LxCenter which is not pretty. Too bad most others are close sourced ones so I have no idea how clean their code is.
Hmm… is this provider dead? The site goes to “http://www.freeimagehostingon.us/blocked.html”.
LOL, I can load it fine.
Interesting. I guess they don’t like some countries and blocked some of these IPs.
I’m new to this VPS business your comments are appreciated. Comparing this one and similar companies with Linode I’m surprised at price difference. Guaranteed RAM 1024 MB and unmetered BW for 9.49$ is just unbelievable! What is the catch guys?
There is no catch. 🙂
I have had a VPS with these guys for over 2 years now, and am very satisfied. Great support and awesome speeds for me! I started with a 256mb VPS and am now on a 2GB VPS.
I highly recommend this host to everyone!
