SemoWeb - $3.50 256MB OpenVZ VPS

SemoWeb Dustin from SemoWeb contacted me “a while” ago about their new Linux VPS plans, especially as these are no longer reselling 123Systems’ packages in Dallas TX but based in Orlando FL with HostDime. Their new VPS plans start from $3.50/month with the following spec:

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 300GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Direct ordering link here. Test IP given by Dustin is 66.7.220.78 — which interestingly has vps.urpad.net as common name in its HTTPS certificate. Does that make SemoWeb’s new plans reselling urpad‘s? They do have different plan structure though.

Their domain has been registered since April 2008, and their WHMCS instance has been live since Jan 2010. You might wish to read comments from the previous offers where many commented on their services.

  1. Admin, Thanks for listing us again.

We do not resell any of our services any more.

We have all our server’s in HostDime which we have full control over instead of taking the hit and miss with reselling.

Dont get me wrong 123systems is a great provider and i would never not suggest their service how ever the huge down side was not having full control and making clients wait.

Now we control everything and our support has improved aswell as well as our services.

If anyone has any questions please submit a ticket :)

  5. Hi,

On http://semoweb.com/services.html you’re only speaking of web.

Can the server also be used for an nntp server?

  10. I ordered this vps, however SemoWeb give me a dead vps account, I can’t boot/reboot in the vps control panel. When I submited a ticket, after 12 hours later, they just reply “Is it ok we terminate this vps and create a whole new one?”. It is joke… who needs a dead vps? And I still have not received any reply till now. Maybe 10 hours later again…..

How about you just check the open tickets? or do you have so many open tickets that this would be difficult?

        • Are you a client? You are not even the person I asked…

And yes for your own good and understanding we cant randomly find tickets when there is all kinds of different tickets being opened rather than playing lottery here we ask for the exact ticket number for accuracy.

          Thanks.

    • Hi, this problem have been resolved in the end(3 days later, some reason for different timezone), it would be better if the ticket could be checked in short time.

I agree with Semo on this one, tickets are sometimes left open after they are resolved or they may be waiting response from the customer who started them. Give the ticket number and they know who you are and what your problem is.

Been using Semo for about three weeks. Overall good, had the vps lose connectivity and reboot once (probably node reboot) but been working good other than that.

  12. Hi,

I use a VPS from SemoWeb to monitor my network, very nice outgoing traffic by level3.
I recommend this company if you are looking for something stable and reliable.

Ping from Florida to Montreal Canada, around 30ms 0% packet lost, all the way on level3 to my network.

    Thanks for your service SemoWeb.

  13. Hi.
I have been have problem with my VPS since three weeks ago.
Previusely I could not login to Kloxo. I submitted a ticket but no response.
I have tried myself to restart the Kloxo as well as the VPS, but it did not work. Finally I made the VPS off using Putty.

I have submitted a ticket again, but still no answer. Finally I have called them, and waiting to see what they do.
    My domain: zahedanonline.com
    Username: vmuser208

I have tried to login to the host control panel at (http://184.154.71.118:5353/login.php) but since 1 month ago saying:
We are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    • That control panel URL is when we use to reseller 123systems, that is no longer even the control panel and you were emailed the new control panel login URL as well as everyone else that was using that URL.

Please take the time to read the emails being sent to you and yes we responded to your ticket after researching the domain, also you messed up your vps not us and we reacted promptly after the ticket was submitted so please lets not over exaggerate 3 weeks here…

I’ve been using Semoweb for about two months. My VPS has been pretty solid. Great speeds and features for the price. I understand others have had some support issues, though I’ve personally not had that experience. On the contrary, they even added another Linux distro for me on request. I recommend.

  16. Just signed up. Seems to work pretty well. I’m currently using 42MB of memory with Apache / Subversion running only.

How much can you do on a server with 256 MB of memory?

      • Thanks for the reply. I signed up to get more familiar with Linux mostly. I have a shared hosting account with host gator for my main site. A lot easier then either leaving my PC on or remembering to turn it on in the morning.

So far apache / php / denyhosts.
