LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

September Hosting & VPS Coupon Round-up

coupons-everywhere

My first post on Low End Box is something a little bit different than what we’ve done before. But, before we get to the round-up, let’s (no pun intended) talk about some of the changes we’re making to LEB and LET. Traditionally, Low End Box has been a resource for buyers and sellers of VPS and similar services — the vast majority having been submitted by providers directly, and often times those offers were simply not that exciting. Our goal for Low End Box moving forward is to increase the scope of what’s covered, no longer will the front page be an endless stream of offers. Instead, we’ll work hard to highlight services that are unique, feature-rich, and worthy of the intense publicity the Low End Box audience provides. Our goal is to make Low End Box a thought leader in the industry, and a hub of information, news, offers, deals, and community editorial.

Now, back to the September Coupon Round-up. At least every quarter, and potentially once a month, based on feedback we will highlight worthy discounts and coupons. Instead of listing just one or two specific offers, this round-up will put the purchasing decision and available options more in the hands of the shopper, and less in the hands of the hosting company submitting the offer.

sm-logo-wide

Cloud: Server Mania has been featured on Low End Box a few times over the years, including a highly successful Black Friday sale in 2013, where they featured 1GB Windows VPS containers for only $7/month, becoming one of the first providers to sell a Windows VPS under the $7 threshold. Since then, Server Mania has expanded considerably, most recently by releasing a true, highly-available, Openstack powered cloud. Be sure to sign-up with coupon code “SMLEB20” when ordering on their website to enjoy a lifetime 20% discount on all cloud packages.

digitalocean

Feature-Rich VPS: Digital Ocean is a long time community favorite having been voted a top ten in our Top Provider Polls on a routine basis. It’s meteoric rise has been long since covered on Low End Box and their services have even been featured before. Digital Ocean utilizes an account credit system, so upon sign-up be sure to enter code “LOWENDBOX” and be rewarded with a free $15 credit to be utilized for services. Navigate to their website, to sign-up for your droplet utilizing this exclusive Digital Ocean coupon for Low End Box users.

bluehost-logo

Shared Hosting: Keeping our promise to expand the services we highlight on Low End Box we turn to BlueHost, which was founded in 2003, and is now owned by EIG, one of the world’s 20 largest hosting providers with over 2 million domains. Surprisingly, we have to go back to 2010 to find the last time BlueHost was mentioned on Low End Box. For those looking for a reliable shared hosting account, BlueHost is a great choice, and given its long history and ownership by EIG, we can all agree it’s not likely to deadpool anytime soon. The “Shared Hosting Plus Package” is normally $10.99/month, though right now it’s $4.45/month. You can sign-up for this package directly on their website.

extra-vm

OpenVZ/KVM VPS: A more recent incumbent to the market place is ExtraVM, which has been in business since 2014. While they have yet to be featured on Low End Box, their reviews posted by customers on Low End Talk are positive here and here. Mike from ExtraVM responded to our Low End Talk thread about coupons and offered an exclusive discount, “LET15” which provides a 15% recurring discount on any VPS service, both OpenVZ and KVM based. You can grab your VPS from ExtraVM by  ordering on their website, packages start for as little as $6/month (before the discount is applied).

aboveclouds-2

Hourly Cloud: AboveClouds, owned and operated by long time Low End Talk member, @Jacob, was first featured on Low End Box in December 2015 to positive reviews. Billing is offered on demand and per hour, making the AboveClouds service highly scalable. Prices start at just £0.004 per hour before an exclusive Low End Box coupon which discounts the service by a whopping 60% recurring. Be sure to enter coupon code “LEBCLOUD” when ordering on their website to get started.

HVH-logo

Hybrid Servers: Hudson Valley Host, which is owned by the parent company of Low End Box, ColoCrossing, was first featured in September 2010. Today, Hudson Valley Host benefits from the resources and capabilities of ColoCrossing and is managed by Low End Talk administrator @VSNX_Nick. Recently Hudson Valley Host began offering “Hybrid Servers” which combine the best parts of a dedicated server — high performance — with the scalability and flexibility of virtualized hosts. Ran on high performance infrastructure utilizing KVM, all resources are dedicated, with no sharing or over-subscription. Hybrid servers normally start at $20/month but are just  $12/month recurring with an exclusive 40% discount coupon for Low End Box readers. Order on their website utilizing coupon “HVHLEB40” for a 40% recurring discount on any Hybrid Server.

If you would like your company added to the next coupon round-up please send a private message to me on Low End Talk @jbiloh.

Tough to beat completely free, right? But full VPS is pretty hot and deals are available. Of course, you need some expertise managing an entire system to make it worthwhile ;-)

Otoh, if you have a specific multi-tenant app in mind I can give you a month “on the house” at fwiw.co using voucher code 3SBZDDH4

      -All the best

  2. This round of coupon offers was intended not to be the cheapest possible, but rather with a focus on quality. :)

If the focus is on quality why is an EIG-owned host included?

      • Customer feedback on BlueHost is generally pretty positive. Most review sites with customer feedback have them at 3.5/5 or better.

That said, always open to suggestions for future lists. Who do you have in mind?

Are the Hudson Valley Hosts hybrid servers just virtualized KVM instances with generous RAM/storage/ allotments? Would they be suitable for running multiple “sub-instances” say using something like Docker or LXC?

    September 13, 2016 @ 12:55 am | Reply
    • Greg,

You should have no problem running Docker or LXC according to some quick research on a Hudson Valley Host Hybrid Server.

For Bluehost “though right now it’s $4.45/month”, which ONLY counts for a payment of 36 months (3 years) which is ridiculous.

There no guarantees about someone out of business after few months. Market changes every month not talking about 2-3 years in advance :)

      • It’s pretty safe to say that an EIG ran web host is going to be here in a few months.

Does anyone have any benches of the Hudson Valley Hybrids? (The $12/month one). Thanks!

    • You should find performance to be pretty good. There are between 2 and 4 Hybrids per physical server generally.

I wanna give Above Clouds a shot. Are they reliable ? I mean, no reviews or benchmarks available. Isn’t it a scam ? All those questions in my mind right now.

    September 17, 2016 @ 10:25 am | Reply
    • Hi Piyush,
We’re most definitely not a scam, though AboveClouds is quite new to the scene so this would explain the lack of reviews and benchmarks.

Any questions feel free to ask.

      Many thanks,
      Jacob.

No review or benchmark available for Above Clouds… You sure it isn’t a scam or something ? These kind of questions in my mind right now

I gave it a try a week ago. And have no issues for now.

It looks like Dual Intel Xeon L5640? Maybe @Jacob can give us more details about the server setup.

      – CPU performance seems fine – not overcrowded for now.
      – Network seems acceptable during tests – for some reason got sluggish during the backups (Too early to tell. It may be my fault).
      – Uptime – no unintended restarts for now
      – Disk IO – 4k+ IOPS

      – If you use a coupon don’t get the “micro” plan or you will probably end up paying the same as the “starter” because of the rounding.
      – Don’t try to upgrade/downgrade the server specs or you will loose the benefit of your coupon ;)

I’m happy for now. Hope for long (Just in case I still keep an image of my stuff ready to spin elsewhere).

Maybe if they remove the slowly loading “cloudy” image from their home page it will attract more potential customers.

    • Hi Jacky,
What problem(s) did you encounter with your virtual machine? We’ve got different types of hypervisors out there some dual E5 machines.. some are dual hex core L5640. All with a minimum of 4 x 480GB SSD in RAID 10.

Please feel free to put any complaints through to jacob (at) aboveclouds.co.uk, I will deal with complaints on a case by case basis and provide compensation where necessary (if we did screw up then we will hold our hands up and apologise).

      Many thanks,
      Jacob.

    • After you click “Order Now” and then fill out the options on that page, you will need to hit “Continue” at the bottom and then click on where it says “Have a promotion code? Click here to add it” to add the promotion code.

      Enjoy!
