LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

SonicVPS - 256MB KVM San Jose, California

SonicVPS Richard from SonicVPS emailed in to let us know about two of their LowEnd plans. Some of the older users may recognise Sonic from March 2010 when they were offering a $5.58 256MB Xen VPS in either Portland, OR or Denver, CO. Ironically, the website has hardly changed since.

Low Sonic KVM256

  • 256MB Dedicated Ram
  • 15GB Raid 10 Diskspace
  • 1000GB Bandwidth
  • 1x IPv4 Address
  • SolusVM/KVM
  • $3.50/Month, Direct Signup
Mega Sonic KVM512

  • 512MB Dedicated Ram
  • 25GB Raid 10 Diskspace
  • 2000GB Bandwidth
  • 1x IPv4 Address
  • SolusVM/KVM
  • $7.00/Month, Direct Signup

SonicVPS’s servers are fully owned and are colocated with BuyVM at the CoreSite datacenter in San Jose. Servers seem to be set up instantly; once payment has been made. One thing which may appeal to some, and which is very rare for a vps host, is that SonicVPS provide phone support. Windows 2003 R2 is also available on their ISO list.

Not much information is out there about SonicVPS and there wasn’t very many replies on their last post in 2010. So, as usual, share your experience below!

The “Low Sonic KVM256” is out of stock and there are only 3 of the “Mega Sonic KVM512” left (wrong link for this one, btw).

I currently have a 256Mb instance with them, and I have been quite pleased with the uptime and network connectivity to the KVM. At this point, I don’t have any negative items to report, as it’s been smooth sailing for my entire time with them(couple months).

  7. Hi Guys,

Thank you for the kind comments. :)

We’ll be stocking some KVM256 plans, please submit a pre-sales ticket if you would like one:
    https://www.centralsupport.com/submitticket.php?step=2&deptid=11

We should be able to slot you in before the new nodes are available.

No issues with Tor at this stage, we’re happy to support VMs for VPN purposes as well.

IPv6 is not available at this stage, I’m working on this though.

  11. Daren: As noted above, please submit a pre-sales ticket if you would like a VM.

Jason: Please refrain from making totally false accusations. We’re happy for you to submit a ticket and work out any problems you’re having. You can phone us and we’ll get back to you as well.

To be perfectly honestl, we do things like give user more bandwidth if they’re running out etc, just to help them get to the next month, pretty much the complete opposite of what you’re saying. While we’re obviously here to make a profit, we don’t mind helping out and generally customers happy.

I nabbed one – my total was $13.55 (for some reason) and then $7 monthly.

I figure it’s a good way to test out the service and provider. Looking forward to it.

  15. tonyray: Yes, we have been restocking very frequently and have managed to keep up with orders, with out overselling of course. :)

Jackster: It was $13.55 because we use a pro-rata system. It helps clients and us immensely with billing as it ensures all invoices are due on the 1st of every month.

Does your KVM support Windows 2003, 2008 ? What Windows ISOs are provided?

    Thanks.

    August 6, 2012 @ 3:13 am | Reply
  17. digdeep: Windows 2003 ISOs are provided and licensed with us, so 2003 is included in the plans.

We can provide a Windows 2008 ISO if need be, but we cannot provide the keys/license for this.

Yes, autonull is available and we do resell their filtering service.

  30. Jack:

    What a tool.

He doesn’t resell he has a few nodes with BuyVM in SJ :)

  31. RaidLogic: That is a complete lie.

We DO NOT resell BuyVM’s VMs etc. BuyVM have strict policies to NOT allow resellers.

Making complete false accusations like that, with no factual basis what so ever is very poor form.

This post is completely unrelated to your business, so please stay out of it.

  32. BuyVM and SonicVPS is great.

SonicVPS is better than Burst reseller. (I’m not blaming Burstnet here, I just don’t like how a reseller blaming another provider).

I don’t care if they were reseller or not. SonicVPS always nice to me.

    September 9, 2012 @ 11:37 am | Reply
  33. Actually, before I make false comments myself. I know BuyVM don’t allow people to ‘hoard’ on stock releases then sell on at inflated prices to others by transferring the VPS.

I’m pretty sure they do allow clients to resell their services which is obvious, they just don’t have a facility for this directly themselves. AFAIK.

    September 9, 2012 @ 11:52 am | Reply
    • True on both.

We don’t give discounts for people that resell our services so it’s not as nice as say, users that resell burst.

I’ve asked the guys to lighten up a bit to allow more resellers but that usually lead to headaches so I don’t think that’ll happen.

  34. Sonic buys IP space, bandwidth, & rack space from us.

They have their own switch, tech contracts, KVMoIP, and of course, nodes.

The only real involvement we have past making sure the network is online is if they need pointers
on how best to integrate new features or expand on ideas.

Past that SonicVPS is their own brand/company and has never once been late on a
bill in the years we’ve worked with them.

While the owner doesn’t get along with Anthony all the time, lets be honest, who does?

  35. We have received an private msg from Sonic stating we have made an comment on his sales post.

    Just a few facts.

    1, We did not!
2, We always post using our registered account here which has gravatar enabled.
3, We always post using username: Jeff @ RaidLogic.NET
4, I always try to do posting here when i’m in office so the IP address should have an rdns – office.raidlogic.net
5, The person who did this is certainly not me nor anyone working for us.
6, I suggest the moderator to provide us with the original IP address and the email address they used.
7, I’m the only person inside our company who is allowed to make post on LEB.

I find this very low ball from the person who did this, why would you use our name as a poster and also link our website to your post.
