LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Spacerich - $2.99 256MB OpenVZ VPS (5 Year Anniversary Promotion)

Spacerich 5 year birthday promotion Vinyas from Spacerich emailed me about their current 5th Year Anniversary promotion for the LowEndBox readers.

The Event

On August 12, 2010, Spacerich Networks will celebrate its successful 5th year anniversary. On behalf of all the staff, we would like to thank our loyal customers for their support and dedication over these past years.

Thanks Due

To reward those who have helped us get to where we are today, we have randomly selected 50 customers from our active base. These customers will receive a complimentary upgrade and an additional 1 year of web hosting at absolutely no cost. Selected customers are informed via e-mail.

There is also a special coupon code Lowly25 which gives you 25% recurring discount for any VPS plans on monthly billing. That means their “Canis” plan in either Chicago or Germany will be $2.99/month with the following spec:

  • 256MB guaranteed/384MB burstable memory
  • 25GB storage
  • 400GB/month outbound data/month with unmetered inbound data
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Unmetered inbound & large storage would make it a good plan for backup servers. Too bad the US node is already out of order, although the next plan up, Carina at $5.24/month, is still available.

    Two question :)

Your DC I believe from SingleHOP and Burst.net and also Haz… @ Germany.

Anyway, if you have SingleHOP server with 4GB Ram at least, dont know how you can sell 1 GB ram based server @ 25 USD? Even 1GB x 4 VPS you will sell = 125 USD, but there are no server less than 150$ on single hop like that. Also I found you offer very awesome discount coupon with cheapest cPanel license, could you tell how can we depends on you :-) ?

Second question, 5 years in business, I believe you have good business dear. But why you use very simple template for your site, did you ever look at your competitors? Your site design look like simply a scam site really. I hope you will also understand the issue and answer us :-)

    August 15, 2010 @ 10:17 pm | Reply
  26. Tanmony,

Yes we still have promotions. And we accept Moneybookers.

  27. Ozib,

    – You forgot to add SoftLayer to the list of DCs.
    – Mind that you should be double careful to signup for any provider who sell VPS with server of 4GB of RAM. All our nodes are powered with 24GB, and some old ones with 16GB RAM which are good enough for us.
    – Regarding cPanel price: We have sold so much of licenses that, we still make money by giving your 25% off on the told price.
    – Design: On our list. We’re too busy in serving customers — which is our number one task.

Contact Sales via tickets if you have any questions.

  42. @Asim – What are you using to test I/O?

    August 17, 2010 @ 5:25 pm | Reply
  43. @Jackk no tests, but this is my guess that I/O is low bcoz as I said earlier “Installing an OS from SolusVM and doing a ‘nano somefile’ or ‘crontab -e’ ” is giving me a lag, usually 5sec-15sec and sometimes even half a min.

    August 17, 2010 @ 5:28 pm | Reply
  44. An OS re-install from SolusVM usually takes around a minute for me depending on how fast the current system takes to shut down. If something won’t shut down on the current system it can take around 3 or 4 minutes to re-install.

How many hours give to your client to resolve any abuse related matter? I believe any other host provide time “24hours” where as you provide “2hours” only and with 50$ late response charge as well.

But I want to ask, if the local time is not matched with you and if the client check that at morning will you going to charge him 50$ instantly. I hope you will increase the time like other host with at least 24 hours. Even burst.net provide 24 hours as well…

    August 18, 2010 @ 9:32 am | Reply
  52. Robin,

Time given to solve the abuse complaint is directly related to the nature of the complaint. We offer 24hr-36hrs standard time for unsolicited E-mail complaints. 12-24hr for Copyright notices. Much less for phishing scam, network attack and related complaints and zero if the complaint is very critical.

Charging $50 is to encourage customers to act in timely manner or at least respond to the complaint. The charge can be removed upon successful complaint resolution.

    Cheers.

I’m seeing some moderately poor i/o performance in Chicago as well, but it’s not horrible… yet. (Somewhat frequent load of 0.1 – 0.3 just from iowait. Basically nothing running; only using 140MB of RAM.) If it gets worse, or becomes consistent, that could be a problem, but for now I can put up with it. Hey, it’s $3 a month…

My VPS with them in Chicago continues to suffer really, really painful iowait, and anything that involves disk access is cripplingly slow. My VPS with them in Seattle, on the other hand, runs beautifully.

While I’d prefer both VPSes ran smoothly, if one had to be slow I’d prefer Seattle. Oh, well. Maybe they’ll eventually figure out who’s mauling the disks in Chicago and boot them…

  63. We have had H/W RAID problems on one of the Chicago nodes. And since last week, we have started moving customers from this problematic node to a much stable one. Other nodes have at least 200 days of uptime. Less than 5% of our clientele is affected by this node. If you are affected open us a ticket and provide the logs, and we will provide the resolution or move you out. Else stop making false half-knowledge assumptions.
Regarding I/O on DE nodes: We have received complaints from none, but from one who failed to provide sufficient logs to investigate. Cannot blame on anything.

In total, we have received only about 3 tickets regarding I/O problems till date, others seemed to have zero problems. Informing us with proper information (only) via ticket – helps.

    Cheers.

You are referring to me, right? well I did provide what you asked for and what did I get? NOTHING! Now stop covering your slow I/O with an official statement.

Oh and I finally made up my mind to try your Seattle node which someone from here said had good I/O and I also had a ticket #309668 logged with support. After this customer-bashing, forget it.

I have good judgement in saying that your VPS has low I/O because I have 9 VPSes from different providers. Even my 80GB outperforms your 256MB VPS.

@LEA I know this is not support forum but I want to make this clear to the community why I cancelled my VPS within 24 hours of payment and a support ticket.

From what I see, its pretty slow from all of my VPSes. Just for a note, im paying $4.3/mo for this QuickWeb VPS

  75. @KLIKLI I get max 20sec from the same test that was executed on all my other VPSes. From that perspetive, I’d say its slow. I am not aware of the averages. Perhaps @LEA can shed light on this?

    @Asim
Yes I agree that is not a good result but you pay USD$2.99 for 25GB’s storage – how fast can you expect it to be?

    August 22, 2010 @ 3:10 pm | Reply
  77. @KLIKLI I am paying just $4 for a 60GB storage VPS with another provider and its blazing fast, it takes 12 seconds to run the same command.

If it, the new vps, does not go per my expectations, I cancel them like I cancelled this service within 24 hours. I do understand that may be average users do not care about I/O or long waits. Nothing personal, just my personal opinion.

Thanks @KLIKLI and @Jackk for checking in, appreciate it

Spacerich: Nobody bothers to open tickets about this because nobody expects a meaningful resolution. This is not uncommon on VM nodes with poor disk performance, and most of us here are well aware of this. Relentlessly harrassing you with support ticket after support ticket isn’t going to magically make the hard drives faster. :)

However, because I’m a masochist, I’ve just now opened a ticket, “formally” informing you of this issue in Chicago. May it bring you much joy and happiness…

  80. On the very VPS that hosts this blog (QuickWeb):

    $ time (dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/test bs=64k count=16k > /dev/null; sync)
    real 0m17.332s
    user 0m0.012s
    sys 0m0.668s

    So 17 seconds for me.

HOWEVER, I am not familiar with OpenVZ. Calling /bin/sync *might* require the entire kernel buffer to be sync to disk — not just your VE but the entire box (remember this shared kernel goodness). That might be reason why it is so slow on OpenVZ.

Still, Xen wins hand down in my book in terms of isolation and often performance.

@ Spacerich – I’m currently using one of their large package under Chicago server, already use delimiter and virpus, in my sense virpus provide me best support but their server is some times down. But their support team 24×7 online and again back my service in friendly manner. My question is I already have 4 server with vir and 1 server with deli. I thought that spacerich is best (As per seeing their offer). But honestly speaking, my connectivity – even cpanel page opening time is slow. Every one tell about I/O issue here, I also think your server has some problem. Even virpus 512/2GB burstable provide 6x times faster site loading speed than your chicago node. Dear spacerich, I like your plan thats why I come to you, but note that, if same issue continuing I really forced to move back to my existing providers nexo mo, no way… :( Really your chicago node has problem. I hope you will solve that asap. On the otherhand now I found that all of your chicago plan are not available. Do you work on this problem to get the issue resolve? Really problematic site laoding speed of chicago server. cPanel and WHM loading and menu works slower, where as server CPU load 0-2 (Avg) Max-3-5 // CPU 3 and Memory 40-50% maximum free.

  82. Mike:

For anyone still following this, I opened a ticket with Spacerich about the poor disk performance. 2.5 hours later, they deleted the ticket because I wasn’t logged in when I submitted it. So, I submitted it again, and fifteen minutes later got a response saying they’d logged into my VM, didn’t see anything amiss, had all kinds of fancy load-balancing things in place to keep one client from continuously affecting overall node performance, and that I should contact them again if the problem becomes continuous for a twenty-four hour period… at which point they’ll move me to another node.

So, yes, Spacerich; see why nobody bothers to open tickets about these things? :)

To be fair, the service they provide is more than decent, and their support is quite responsive (when you’re logged in; I surmise that tickets from non-logged-in customers go to the bottom of the queue). Knowing a tiny bit about the way paravirtualization works, I suspect that people who are actually heavily using their VMs on the affected node(s) probably, ironically, get better performance than those of us who are barely doing anything with them. Great for the people using all 25GB of space and 400GB of bandwidth; not so great for those of us using 1.5GB of space and about a GB of bandwidth…

Just waiting for refund, not sure if you can provide that to me, if not, no problem I will review my good experience to all.

@ Asim & LEB admin, is paypal dispute work with these Indian people? I already use so many service from LEB reviewed provider. Never found crap like these people. Another poor company around.

Check http://whois.domaintools.com/spacerich.com with premium a/c. They really buy the old domain and mainly 1 year in business, just tell the false history : 5yrs in business. My money really gone to hell, nothing else.

  90. From DomainTools they certainly have domain info prior to March 2010 hidden behind privacy guard. I don’t have a premium account so I can’t tell the history. However if it is indeed the case, “5 years anniversary” would certainly be a false claim.

  96. Ozib,

thanks for opening the ticket and letting us know who you are.

Though you violated our TOS with ‘multiple’ abuse complaints, caused all sort of support troubles, thretened to bring bad image on company by writing false reviews — we have decided to refund your unused amount (excluding control panels, addons price). It is always better to have such clients off the file.

    Others,
He/she has not opened a ticket till date regarding slow I/O or anything related to performace but at LEB (which is not our support channel). All these could have been solved with one simple ticket.

    Cheers.

@ Spacerich – If you were provide me good service, its just simple I stay with you. Look at the 3. and 4. comments of this page, who provide you good touch.

You already told that “violated our TOS with ‘multiple’ abuse complaints” There are not any. Only one abuse complain because one of my client running fishing site. I suspended that in my previous node, but while I move my server to you, cpanel2cpanel the site automatically unsuspended, as if you have basic knowledge then you can understand it very well. I forgot to terminate the a/c that time, as soon as you inform me I terminate it. Is that is “multiple” abuse???

Not only that, I have premium paid support with cPanel directly. While they investigate my node and run easy apache process, they informed me the node has some problem. More than 1.5 hours going on even Easyapache not completed and crashed. WHM page load slower, every dynamic site load slower.

“thretened to bring bad image on company by writing false reviews” who told that?!??!????

Not only that, I have 7 VPS from different provider. I never seen such poor VPS in my life. I already told you that I’m a kid that what you are saying, I just listen. Now waiting for refund, thats all.

  105. I get one my self. Instant setup, 100% uptime till now. Speed is OK. Considering the price, I am very happy! I bought the DE VPS with 10Mb Unmetered BW.

Despite their protestations that there were no disk i/o problems in Chicago, blah blah blah… the node I’m on is suddenly working perfectly fine this morning, with no iowait at all. Yay, Spacerich!

(Here’s hoping it was actually something they did, and not just a case of a single abusive customer hitting their bandwidth limit and being temporarily suspended…)

OMG! Thats whole lot of comments about this poor indian company! I too fell on their scam trap recently by getting my own VPS Plan: Carina – US [Cypher] from them. Simply to say, they’re the worst vps providers i’ve ever seen. No support tickets answered even after 4 days they were raised. OpenVZ goes mad and shows incorrect information always. Its almost a week passed after i logged into WHM. Poor support. Poor performance. Re-installation of OS never completes. Can’t login to WHM. 100% Packet loss on my ip anytime. Last but not least i didn’t seen any of my sites running which is hosted on their VPS. Their company is just 85 Kms away from me! I’m also frm india. I know how to handle & give them a nice treat very soon!!!

Never ever try them guys! Highly Not Recommended!!!

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with SpaceRich.com. I needed a cheap VPS to host a simple website and mail server. Since I need php SSH2, I can’t go with a normal website hosting. The service worked fine for 1 month, although their setup time was painfully slow (+12 hours for setup and then +12 hours for a memory upgrade). After paying the 2nd month my service went down. I asked them why and they stated their was an abuse complaint on my server so they suspended it. I told them I needed access to the server to check the security logs. They would not reinstate the service until I answered the abuse email, which was, of course, sent to the very server they had suspended. After 4 days of trouble tickets with ZERO replies, I was able to setup an email server on one of my other dedicated boxes, redirect mail to it, and reply to their complaint. After the account was reactivated, I checked and there was no traffic whatsoever coming form that box associated with the abuse complaint. Shutting down my servers cost me most of my customers and over $100 in refunds over the course of a few days! NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!

Stay away from them. Main problem is extremely slow I/O, totally waste of time and money even if it’s cheaper than others you are overpaying in the end.
