LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

sshVM - $4.50 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Kansas City or Scranton

sshVM Mahesh from sshVM emailed me about their special promotion for LowEndBox readers… Except the promo code he emailed me does not work! Never mind. Found a different coupon code over here on WHT that gives the same 10% off discount. Use WHT-10 to their “VPS2” down to $4.50/month. Update: Promo code LOWENDBOX-10 should work now.

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 300GB/month data transfer
  • 1x IPv4 + 5x IPv6
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

You get to choose between Kansas City MO (Wholesale Internet, AMD Phenom II X4 nodes, direct sign up link) or Scranton PA (BurstNet, Intel Core i7 nodes, direct sign up link). They also have 128MB/10GB/150GB OpenVZ plan for $2.70/month after the discount. sshVM is based in India and Mahesh was running it with small group of techies. Domain was created in Feb 2011 (~1 month old). Domain is also authorized to use WHMCS but on a 15-day trial license key. AUP here, where IRC and torrent are forbidden.

Could be a Virpus Reseller. Don’t really like their design.

How would know know they are on trial WHMCS license?

    • Dunno how LEA does it but you can do it like this by going to the link

      https://secure.sshvm.com/admin/licenseerror.php

      • Just curious. I checked over at the WHMCS site and the domain passes fine and shows as invalid. The above link though shows that the license is invalid. Shouldn’t WHMCS be passing that along to show that the license is valid?

Just wondering if a ticket should be opened up on that. I don;t use WHMCS so I’m at a loss here.

I don;t have a problem with using trial licensing either. Working on a site install this morning and the SSL licensing we’re using is a trial certificate. I wouldn’t be opening for business though or offering offers like this with such a certificate though.

        • Sounds like a bug to me then. If the license is valid, it should show as valid.

“…the domain passes fine and shows as invalid…”

Excuse me. That should be “…shows as valid…”

        • ab, my mind reading hat is in for a wash. I don’t have a clue as to what you’re referencing. If you follow the links we providing, you’ll see what we’re looking at:

          https://secure.sshvm.com/admin/licenseerror.php

          License Invalid

Your license key Leased-5e02c4163d2d61b2a11b is invalid. Possible reasons for this include:

          * An incorrect license key has been used
          * The IP Address your system is using has changed
          * The domain you are using has changed
          * The directory you are using has changed

You can reissue your license from the WHMCS client area to save the new IP, Domain & Directory settings and get your WHMCS system working again.

Got a new license key? Click here to enter it

Hmm, you must be a wordpress developer….

On any WHMCS site, /licenseerror.php would give out a “license invalid” error from my testing.

        March 16, 2011 @ 3:04 pm | Reply
        • Very true. But i dont think there is another way to find out the key as WHMCS verify tool just reports it as good or bad.

        • Can someone let us know how did @ab get this info? Getting IP, Domain name is fine but getting regdate, nextduedate and validdirectory is disturbing.

        • thats a good question perhaps he must have queried the WHMCS license server some how.

LEA emailed me the trick a few days ago. Check your access log sshVM and you’ll know it. I believe LEA want to keep it private, and thus, did not tell it publicly. Thanks to Fran from BuyVM ;-)

          March 17, 2011 @ 11:30 am | Reply
        • @circus yes right! I guess with modsecurity rule like SecRule REQUEST_URI “\?licensedebug\” \ we can prevent this request.

        • KLIKLI:

          You don’t even need mod_security.
          Place these in configuration.php:

          if (strpos($_SERVER['query_string'],'licensedebug')) {exit();}

        • That was my point. If a license is valid, the url should follow to somewhere else and show the license is valid.

I don;t use WHMCS so someone else is going to have to log a bug report. Or at least clue me into how one should be logged.

  3. We are not Virpus Reseller. We have servers in Wholesale Internet and BurstNet Datacenter.

  4. The Coupon code was generated but we were not aware about case sensitive in WHMCS. We had provider LEB coupon: Lowendbox-10 :( which actually should be lowendbox-10 or LOWENDBOX-10

Also, the WHMCS license has been updated.

    • there isnt anything wrong with using a trial, its the whole point to try it see if it suits your business….

however i would never install any trials on a Production Server

  7. We Agree, we are new company with new domain name. But we are not unstable. WHMCS was running in Trial Licenses once trial expire we can easily update the license. However, we have updated the lease license now.

Don’t want to troll but I highly believe they are a Virpus Reseller fron Kansas and Burst Reseller. VPS Resellers don’t last long, from my experience. Virpus is unstable according to many reviews I’ve seen and things I’ve heard, they also lose customer data and have horrible uptime.

      March 19, 2011 @ 1:32 pm | Reply
  9. @Jade what does words “Reseller” mean according to you? Is it buying server from Burstnet or WholesaleInternet or Limestonenetwork or Softlayer and building OpenVZ in that server and then setting SolusVM Master/Slave integrating with WHMCS?

Once again we are saying LOUD and CLEAR we are not reseller we own the dedicated servers.

    March 19, 2011 @ 3:56 pm | Reply
    • You Dont own the dedicated servers though,, they are owned by DC.

why dont, they own and colo at DC, is it imposible?

        • No, But the way they said they own dedicated servers i assume they where talking about dedi servers not colo.

It is true your essentially reselling if you own dedi servers.

  10. According to my understanding reseller means selling VPS of some other provider and seller do not have access to main node. We are not reseller, we purchase the servers we do have root access and we ourself configured OpenVZ and integrated it with SolusVM and WHMCS.

    March 19, 2011 @ 4:02 pm | Reply
  11. Yeah right, we do not own the server :p it is property of DC. We can say “OUR Server / My Server” as long as we pay for it.

    March 19, 2011 @ 4:06 pm | Reply
    • Kind of torn on that actually. “We lease our servers” may be more correct. I think me and Fran here are the only ones who actually own our own hardware. (Excuse me if there are others. Feel free to chip in.)

Mind providing some pictures and such? Usually, people offering VPS are reselling Burst net.

  14. From my own definition — resellers are specifically those who sign up other VPS providers’ reseller programs and resell VPS on behalf of another provider. They generate profit from the differences on the unit price.

For example BurstNet resellers and Virpus resellers. They pretty much just need a website and their own WHMCS portal, and no other software to install.

I’ll only list those resellers here if they can give a price that’s cheaper than their upstream providers’ retail pricing. For example the recently-deadpooled JBoost.com.

On the other hand, I think it is perfectly fine setting up leased servers to resell VPS.
