According to their public WHOIS, CityNet Host has been around since 2008 and the owner is located in Egypt. They seem to be a registered company as well (CityNet Telecom S.A.E.), but my search for company information ended at the EgyptAir website. If someone can find the registration to confirm it, please let us know. They have been featured a lot by LowEndAdmin in 2010 and 2011, but that’s a bit too long ago to draw some feedback from. This VPS is part of their standard offering but is definitely the one with the best value for money. I do not have much hardware or DC information. They have Live Chat available and two phone numbers for contact, so you should be covered. If you have experience with these guys or decide to give them a shot, please let us know in the comments!

You can pay for this server with PayPal, Credit Card, and 2Checkout. There’s a 30-day refund policy in place for the first account and the first service only. For full details on this and others things, please read their Terms of Service.

            Hello Mohamed,

Wow, you incorporated in Turkey? “CityNet Telekom Ltd” in Esenyurt, Istanbul is the LIR address for the Turkish branch.

Very interesting, why did you choose to expand here?

Also which datacenter are you using? Ping is not great to me and I’m in Istanbul.

            Ping from CityNet Istanbul: 79ms
            Ping from CityNet Cairo: 109ms

          He got it easier,
          1) sign up for every new provider,
          2) send spam,
          3) get IP finally blacklisted,
          4) “ip spamlisted by gmail” => ask for that refund, he’s so eager to know about.
          5) Move on to the next provider.
          All for free.

I don’t think feedback from 3-4 years ago is necessary still valid.
Also it’s not a yearly offer, paying per month at just $5 it’s easy to cancel if you don’t like it.

I was a (Xen-PVM, with one of the backdoor’d images) customer of yours from August 2010 until this month, in Egypt. Kept hoping things would improve, but… nope. My hope, and patience, are finally exhausted. Ciao, adios, do svidanya.

The network in Cairo is terrible, in terms of peering and routing and throughput and latency, but that’s the limited connectivity to Egypt, and not really your fault.

What are your fault are the constant power outages and reboots, and “support”. I don’t think I’m exaggerating that our VM never went more than ninety days without unscheduled downtime and a reboot.

I stopped bothering to open tickets three years ago. The second ticket I opened, you “lost” my VPS (and customer account…) and provisioned a new one, twenty-four hours later. The third ticket you responded to with two oh-so-helpful words: “Working now..” The fourth ticket you responded to in a mere twenty hours. And those were *all* tickets about the server being offline and un-bootable for more than twenty-four hours (because you guys are, after all, the princes of power outages.)

Good luck with Turkey, and your ruthless horror of a so-called government. You’re going to need it.

had a vps with this company, it was very cheap, i had it in egypt… basically their service was bad, but because of the arab spring… anyway this istanbul location has nothing to do with egypt locations and turkey is pretty stable so i do not know, maybe give them a chance if the provide refunds.

Same here. I’m in Sakarya, the highest I’ve seen is around 40-45. To Radore, it’s always 20-25. Guess Mednautilus have some routing issues.

Well interesting. They’re on Mednautilus? First time I’ve heard of this DC. Apparently Mednautilus is a subsidiary of Telecom Italia, which is a pretty large brand, many have heard of Alice ADSL their subsidiary. Baffles me how they can screw up routing this much. And they advertise Mednautilus Greece page in the footer of Mednautilus Turkey; as if there’s any connection peering-wise between Greece and Turkey. Anything would go through Germany, and the geographical proximity is incoherent.

Are you sure is it Turkey location? I’ve never seen 50-70ms from Turkey location before(I’m at Istanbul).

    • Murat:

The reason 50-70ms from Turkey to here or other nodes (TATA Istanbul or Ankara, Cogent Istanbul) is TTNET’s refusal to complete internet exchanges in Turkey. So they are exchanging traffic in Frankfurt or France, thats why you get 50-70 ms ping.

      TTNET is evil.

A short time after I paid for a VPS their website stopped working because they had
not paid to renew the domain name. The domain name registration was renewed after
a few days, took about a week for them to have the domain resolve to a working web server.

The VPS was not installed, I got an email with an ip address but it never worked,
the citynethost control panel showed the vps using zero disk space.

No response to a support ticket after three weeks.
