Goodbye, TikTok.
According to news reports, both Apple and Google have received letters from the FCC requesting they remove the TikTok app from their app stores. Neither Apple nor Google has commented.
This follows on news that all user data on TikTok is viewed and processed in China by government officials. In the exposed recordings, TikTok officials are heard routinely discussing private user data and it is evident that this data is being analyzed in China.
Oracle made a bid for TikTok’s cloud business and TT is in the process of “pivoting” and having all of its user data hosted on Oracle Cloud in the US. Supposedly. However, there is great skepticism that this will prevent the kind of data sharing. Indeed, the same officials promising a “firewall” are the same ones in the tapes discussing using the data in China.
