Via this WHT offer. UK VPS, which is part of Switchlink (which again is part of Britbank Media, whose website is currently showing weird PHP error), is offering cheap virtual servers at £3.50/month (~USD$5.56). Here is the specification:
- 128MB memory
- 5GB storage
- 100GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ or Xen HVM
On the WHT ads it says “Ideal platforms for IRC Services…” so I assume IRC is allowed. Servers are in either Manchester UK or Dallas TX, and you get up to 15% discount when you pay annually. Interestingly they are hosting their website at Servage Hosting (popular European shared hosting overseller). Switchlink has been around for over a year although not much review about them when I did some search (except one with mediocre performance benchmark, but a lot can change over the last 8 months).

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Have ordered a VM from these guys, got it within a few minutes and support seems to be great! Answered a few questions I had about the vm as I’m not hugely technical.
Thanks lowendbox, another great recommendation!
By the way, I went for a Xen-1000 – seemed like a decent speed to get, and it really is nice and quick, great speed on the server and superb download speed.
I have had a VPS with switchlink for some time now (around 2 months). I use it to run gameservers on. I use openvz package and haven’t had any problems. Panel is by far the best i’ve used so far, and it doesnt need constant logins to get into like other hosts do! Brilliant.
I’ve contacted support a few times and always had a quick response. Think the longest wait for about 2 hours, but the issue was petty and not really their problem (is this plugin compatible). Something i could have looked up myself to answer but was too lazy. Support team helped me set up webhosting on the vps and even hooked me up with a free control panel for it thats available on the web, rather than pressuring me into buying plesk for example.
Top notch guys and i’d definitely recommend em like Jack would. To the original poster – a few typos might be nice to correct them as well as the links. for googles sake.
I had a VPS with switch link for almost 1 month now, I must admit the uptime has been 100% and the speeds are excellent. had a problem with reverse dns which support team said was down to ripe and now fixed although has actually NOT been fixed and still rdns is not possible. if they have it sorted by the time my month is up I will be happy to purchase a higher spec vps for future use,
Mike, the IP range you are on is still locked by RIPE and is awaiting release.
We would be more than happy to move you to another range to speed up the resolution time for you.
