LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Vazapi - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago or San Jose

Update December 2011 — Vazapi has been sold to Netrouting and its domain is now on AdSense for Domain.

Vazapi We know that some of you had a lot of problem with their previous $15/year offer. It has been almost 2 months now and they are keen for another try. Nope, not cheap annual plan anymore, but Pete from Vazapi emailed me a special promo for LowEndBox readers as “an apology to teething problem during annual promotion”. Promo code is LEB0611, and makes “uVZ-2” $5/month at checkout. Direct sign up link here, and this is what you will get

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1TB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers will be provisioned to San Jose by default (test IP: 199.48.146.2), but if you want Chicago (test IP: 64.79.100.38), you would need to open a ticket to have your VPS re-provisioned. IPv6 is “available” — you’ll be given a /64 on request, however from previous posts IPv6 might not actually work so YMMV.

Vazapi is affiliated with ServerMinds, Graxis, etc.

  1. For me has been almost perfect. Sometimes slow I/O, but the uptime is good and performance is amazing (You know, that pi thread…), actually http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/425503

    Just got one outgae about 1 hour (or less, I don’t remember). After that:

    $ uptime
     20:45:05 up 21 days,  1:17,  1 user,  load average: 0.65, 0.24, 0.08

    And this, but is perfectly usable.

    $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k conv=fdatasync count=10k; rm test
    10240+0 records in
    10240+0 records out
    671088640 bytes (671 MB) copied, 72.0554 s, 9.3 MB/s
    $ vmstat
    procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- -system-- ----cpu----
     r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa
     1  1      0 480428      0      0    0    0     0     1    0    4  0  0 99  1

    Oh yeah, and that net speed…

    Classic:
    $ wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test
    100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 36.1M/s   in 2.8s

    To east:

    wget http://atlanta1.linode.com/100MB-atlanta.bin
    100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 3.45M/s   in 30s

    Obviously:

    wget http://fremont1.linode.com/100MB-fremont.bin
    100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 60.8M/s   in 1.6s

    Hard test:

    wget http://london1.linode.com/100MB-london.bin
    100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 1.45M/s   in 67s

      There’s no problem with a long comment, and no problem with being happy either. I’ve been wondering about Vazapi and I think I might just give this deal a try.

        • Sometimes… sometimes not. For my usage, is perfect, I can install software reasonably quick and do some tasks without getting angry xD

          If you really need too much I/O, go elsewhere =P If you need processing or just host some websites, this is a good choice.

          And well, that results are of the $15 offer. This maybe are another nodes.

      Thanks for that review. I had one with great performance too. I think your VPS is even better in CPU. But mine has excellent I/O, if you tried another time, maybe you should get decent values

    My $15 vps has been pretty good.. The ipv6 finally worked but he gives a single ipv6 address and not the whole /64 like was originally stated on the $15 deal.

    • Jason:

      I don’t think single IPv6 even makes sense. Thats not the minimum allocation size per arin, are you sure you’ve made sense of ipv6?

      June 15, 2011 @ 8:58 am | Reply
    • According to Dominic, their “initial IPv6 allocation is exhausted”, so maybe they are now distributing them a lot slower. But wtf, I thought every atom in the universe are supposed to get one IPv6 assigned to them?!

      • KuJoe:

        So you can get 16 quintillion IPs upon request?!

        June 15, 2011 @ 10:09 am | Reply
      • Jason:

        It can :p I still think IPv6 is pathetic. Anyway… Moving on to the real world :p

      • Dominic Hakke:

        After the new provisioning of IPv6 after we exhausted our first allocation we where told by our upstreams that we need to have valid justification for our addresses.
        We also told them the ARIN guidelines are showing minimum allocations, but they still see them as “guidelines”

        Sorry i didn’t had that included in our e-mail.

      You can ask for as many ipv6 ips you like.
      However, it’s randomly assigned (SolusVM style, 2607:ff58:ff00::xxxx:xxxx), not a /64.
      I’m still happy with my $15 vps.

    Their VPS are much more faster than Burst.NET. There is no comparison. Actually you can use 100% of RAM they provided for your VPS (no lies like others).

    I’m very satisfied.

    I bought a vps at june 16th, 512MB/1024MB burst, 20GB/1000GB

    1st day IO is good.it is 15MB or up.

    but these 2 day I got that:

    [root@server2 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=4k oflag=dsync
    373+0 records in
    373+0 records out
    24444928 bytes (24 MB) copied, 104.235 seconds, 235 kB/s

    [root@server2 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=4k oflag=dsync
    277+0 records in
    277+0 records out
    18153472 bytes (18 MB) copied, 40.5307 seconds, 448 kB/s

    The download speed sometime is 0-5KB/S,some time 30KB/S, 50KB/S,140KB/S … not unstable

    My other vps (at ds or virpus)is often about 110KB/S 24hr/day.

    I ticket them, but no reply.

          the (VAZAPI)vps is 5$ 512MB/1024MB burst 20GB/1000GB

          My DS vps is 5$ 512MB/1024MB burst 20GB/1000GB
          my virpus vps is $5 768MB/1024MB burst 50GB/1600GB

          Their download speed is often 110KB/S, and IO is normal.

          Why vazapi vps is so worse?(They’re all use line Hurricane Electric)

          Even not better than a virtual Web Hosting

          We are well aware of that, i didn’t say it wasn’t down we have not put up fallback mechanismes for our website so it’s suffering from the issues we are facing on our main node.

    Vazzzzapi! ;(

    The VPS Hosting services where acquired by Netrouting and a new VPS has been created on their nodes subsequently all old VPS’s where suspended.
    In the notification email of the takeover by Netrouting we indicated that you had to open a ticket if you wanted the content to be transferred these have all been completed and subsequently all VPS has been shutdown on the old node.

    O, nevermind, it was only $5 for me. I don’t want to go to netrouting (“netrouting replies tickets really slowly(in 12-24hours or more), but still alive”). Now I’m going to buy ChicagoVPS, so it will be not a surprise for my luck that they will go away during a month. :)

    Our VPS went down. It came back up (a file system problem was cited in the ticket). A few days later it went down again. Tickets were unanswered. Then we received a message stating the sale, and moving to Miami. We heard nothing further, and the tickets remain unanswered to this day. We got almost a week of service for a month’s purchase.

      My VPS was transferred about 2 weeks ago from Vazapi’s San Jose location to Netrouting’s Miami
      location. Your vps was probably transferred there too but you didnt get the emails or something.

      I got one of the $15/yr packages and I am very satisfied with the Miami location.
