20TB? are ovh servers not limited to 40TB? btw whats the port speed?

According to http://www.ovh.com/fr/serveurs_dedies/
if they took the “biggest server”,
the port speed of the server is 10Gbps and the bandwidth is 200Mbps max (67TB/mo).
Of course it is still possible to buy more bandwidth.

Concerning the offer, it looks nice on paper. You can get 1Gbps as an option for $5.40.
OTOH, extra IP is pricey :(.

Different servers have different limits, but iirc if you lived in .fr you used to get unlimited bw, perhaps you still do.

Either way, wouldn’t touch them. I had one for a month and performance was useless, and they didn’t cancel it properly when I got sick of the crappy performance. They sent me an invoice for 0.00 then reminders and threats of cancelling my service.

Just went through your account, and it seems that you wanted to cancel because your moneybookers payment did not go through, and I replied to you stating that it went through. You did not tell me if you still wanted to cancel it. I that is still the case, please let me know at vimal (at)vmlit.com I will do the needful.

Gary, first of all, you should have informed us about poor performance if you were suffering from such things which you never did. As for threats, no one ever sends threat from our company. Only automated emails are sent out. We are currently housing over 5000 VPS. And from time to time we do get performance issues which we rectify immediately once we are notified.

I am sorry that you did not find our VPS performance acceptable.

Over 5000? Were they all on the same node? ;)

I never did open a ticket, because I wasn’t surprised by it, and didn’t expect you to fix it. Disk IO of a few MB/sec, coupled with high load due to IO weight is a global thing that would impact every vps on the node. Terrible performance like that just says you’ve crammed way too many VPSes on one node. You’d be aware of the performance, unless not one single customer opened a ticket, and you don’t monitor your servers in any way. Which is it? Ignore the problem unless someone complains?

And I was still getting automated “Failure to make payment will result in account termination within 48 hours” emails from you over 2 weeks after receiving my cancellation confirmation from you.

Find someone who has signed up and ask them what bracket their username is in. If their username is vm123 then it’s obvious there isn’t 5000 VM’s hosted.

Granted, it’s very much possible to modify the offsets, but still.

There is nothing as Gary is mentioning here. We had an unfortunate issue last month which lasted 2 days because of a hard disk failure in our RAID 10 array. The RAID took over 24 hours to rebuild.

I shouldn’t have to complain, that’s the point. They should be managing the load on the boxes to ensure acceptable performance. Given that multiple people were seeing terrible performance, it’s fair to assume it’s a widespread problem with VMLIT, and that they just don’t care. A lot of budget providers just overload the hell out of their nodes and oversell like crazy. Things like giving 20TB of bandwidth to each customer…

Gary:

Vimal don’t lie, and don’t talk nonsense. It was month long. I tried the VPS every few days and the performance never got better. I didn’t get a chance to use it at all because the performance was so bad. Logging in via SSH created a load spike, and doing anything involving disk IO was so slow as to be worthless.

Looking at your last offer, people posted on the following dates complaining.

October 12, 2011 (network outage)
November 20, 2011 (drive IO)
November 21, 2011 (drive IO)
November 24, 2011 (drive IO)

I cancelled on 03/Nov and my month’s service started from 18/Oct. So from 18th/Oct to 03/Nov it was bad for me, and then at least in the latter half of November it was bad.

Hardly a 2 day blip.

You then fixed your raid array, which was apparently causing problems, and kicked out your torrenting users.

Perhaps if you’d been on top of performance issues, you wouldn’t have lost clients due to the VPSes being unusably slow.

@Gary. Every client will have the common sense to report a problem whenever they come across one which you never did. So I can easily assume that you are trolling.
You can say whatever you want Gary, you never opened an issue with us, so how can I expect you are telling the truth.

As for the other post you are mentioning, do go down the line to see that we resolved the I/O issue once we got our RAID system back online. For us it lasted 2 days.

We have hundred of customers using 20TB+ bandwidth. Not a single complaint about us terminating them or limiting their use. You get what you buy with us.

We have developed in house scripts that monitors our servers and automatically suspends VPS based on their load (for hours).

As for torrenting, this was always prohibited in our TOS and we send reminders to our clients every so often. Any long term client can say this.

As lastly LEB is not our Support Desk. Posting here about I/O issues is not going to help.

And for us customers are not a number.

I hope that clears your doubt or misunderstanding.

Gary:

No doubt, no misunderstanding. Multiple people experienced bad drive IO, over the period of a month+.

I didn’t open a ticket because it had already gone on for 2 weeks. If you just ignore it for 2 weeks and don’t fix it, what will you do when I complain? Move me onto a new node? And when you overload it, then what?

A good provider keeps tabs on performance and manages their nodes, they don’t wait until they get enough complaints and THEN bother to do something.

Given that people complained about the speed on multiple occasions, people here on LEB can verify that there were disk IO problems for way more than 2 days. You’re the liar, not me.

And you have hundreds of customers using 20TB+? Given that 200 is the lowest number that qualifies as hundreds, multiple, we’ll assume that 4% your client base uses 4PB of transfer per month?

I call BS. You’ve already blatantly lied about the drive IO, and now you’re talking nonsense about people actually being able to use 20TB regularly…

Gary, in short. Think Whatever you want to think or call this BS as you said.

What is the truth is the truth and you cannot change it.

If you are under the misunderstanding that we wait till client report an error for us to fix it, then that it totally wrong.

We are currently managing over 350 Servers. Up to you to think what you want.

We operate a legal business here and we do care about our servers and clients.

And if you did not think it was wise to report a performance issue. There is nothing I can do about this.

I am done responding to you on this issue, since I do not even know if you are speaking the truth since you never reported it.

And since you are talking about 20 – 24 Nov. You were not even client at that time judging by your signup date. Anyway I am not going to carry this forward with you.

Good Luck.

Gary:

We get a lot of crappy providers here. I sign up and monitor the server for a month. There’s no point putting services onto an underperforming VPS, only to have to move them back off. If the box is stable and reliable for a month, then I consider actually using it.

For the entire month I had your services, the VPS was unusable. If it takes me to prod you before you give a damn about performance on a box, I don’t want to be a customer. Providers should monitor load, network and drive performance to ensure that by the time the customer opens a ticket, they’re already aware of it, and fixing it.

If it was a one-off thing I wouldn’t mind. It lasted for weeks, and even after I was a customer, according to other customers in the other thread. Or I suppose they’re liars too, right?

Some notes on commenting on LowEndBox:

• Do not use LowEndBox for support issues. Go to your hosting provider and issue a ticket there. Coming here saying "my VPS is down, what do I do?!" will only have your comments removed.
• Akismet is used for spam detection. Some comments may be held temporarily for manual approval.
• Use
...
to quote the output from your terminal/console, or consider using a pastebin service.
