LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

VPSCheap.net - $6.99 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago

VPSCheap.net Mike from VPSCheap.net (not to be confused with VPSCheap.info) has emailed me some exclusive promotions. First of all, they have updated their website — more subtle contrast and overall a nicer website. They have also updated their OpenVZ plans, and their real low end plan “VPS 1” is now even cheaper — with special discount too!

  • VPS 1
  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 3GB storage
  • 5Mbps unmetered bandwidth
  • 2x vCPU cores
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • $1.57/month (promo code 20FF, Direct Signup Link)

Or if that’s too low end for you, here is their discounted “VPS 3”:

  • VPS 3
  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 50GB storage
  • 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth
  • 2x vCPU cores
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • $6.99month (promo code LEB699, Direct Signup Link)

PayPal, Google Checkout or credit card. Servers with FDC Servers in Chicago IL (test IP: 208.77.23.240), and these have RAID6 drives. Domain has been registered since Feb 2010. No real name is attached to the WHOIS record, but the address is near Chicago and is the same as WORLD-HOST.ORG (that does DNS for VPSCheap.net). WORLD-HOST.ORG is owned by Kristian R. who is linked with proxy and file uploading sites… Whether they are related — I have no idea, but hey, that’s what WHOIS tells me assuming people are filling them correctly.

Their AUP has a mix of shared/VPS hosting sections. IRC (client or server) is generally not acceptable.

  1. If you desire to cancel your account, please email billing@Vpscheap.net 7 days before expiry of the account. Failure to notify cancellation would result in services billed and payable for the next period.

    So, WHMCS cancellation is useless?

And btw, seems that I can’t run several things, more than just IRC

  3. Hi,

Regarding cancellation – yes you can still use WHMCS cancel fuction, we are still in process of migrating from our old website so some parts are still not updated.
Regarding IRC – we do allow IRC on our vps servers.

@kousinnryou – We are a registered corporation in the state of IL :)

    • So, do you allow gameservers? Because the AUP says something about prohibited usage in “webhosting accounts”. You mean shared hosting? Or any account :S
      Too confusing

  4. On our VPS servers – yes we do allow game servers.

      This is not instant provision?

      November 4, 2011 @ 10:58 pm | Reply
  5. We do not have instant provisioning. All orders are processed within 24 hours. Although 24 hours is an extreme case scenario and most often servers are provisioned within an hour of receiving payment confirmation.

The promo code 20FF is not working for the VPS 1 plan. It says: ” # The promotion code entered has already been used # ”

Is any discount being offered on the VPS 2 plan?

    • Hello Andrew,
I have released more 20OFF coupons so you could take advantage of this promotion.
We do not have any discounts on VPS 2 at the time but we are planning one for December.

        • John, unfortunately we already went way over our quota for this month, initially we dedicated 30 VPS servers for this offer, once the sold out we allowed another 30 and they sold out as well so at this point the offer is over on VPS 1, next month hopefully we will have another one which could be even better then this

          Thanks

Sorry, no that was Plan 2. I didn’t get in on the deal because I only need 256Mb RAM and am purposefully testing on lower end machines.

  10. True to their word, the setup was very quick – there weren’t any activation emails, but within an hour the setup was done.

I’m trying VPS 3, so let me know if you have any questions.

Just got an e-mail that my VPSCheap VPS will be down for 3-4 hours due to “failed hard drives on our storage array connected to that node.” “we need to shutdown all vps servers on it to safely fix and rebuild the array. Eventhough this is not necessary we feel it is the best action given the current situation to avoid data loss or potential loss of your VPS server all together. Shutting down of all vps server will begin in 30 min.”

I guess we get what we pay for at these prices :-) (Fortunately I’m not doing anything critical with it, I’m just using it to monitor other servers…)

    November 17, 2011 @ 3:27 am | Reply
    • Thanks for the heads up! What monitoring tools are you using?

Nagios is the plan; I haven’t finished setting it up yet. Wanted to use NConf, but 128MB isn’t enough RAM to run MySQL.

i would recommend you stay away this hosting.Connection speed average 300kb/s not a 10Mbit/s.

    • Dear Mehmet,

this is why we offer 30 day money back guarantee, you try it and if it doesn’t work for you we give you your money back just like we did with you. Further more if you want a fast connection and you live in Turkey I would recommend you dont go and purchase a server on the other side of the world and then complain its slow.
There is no way for any provider to be able to accommodate every single one of their customers with the best connection out there.

  13. I want to update this post because I bought the cheapest plan and I am very happy =)

A short and quick & dirty review:

    The activation is manual.

No need to submit tickets for tun module.

The support is quick, we had a hiccup because a failed drive and was repaired very fast.

    About performance:

At the start the IO classic test was about 40MB/s or less, but now:

    671088640 bytes (671 MB) copied, 7.68767 s, 87.3 MB/s

IOping generally stable, with some spikes.

    2 x Opteron 6128 @ 2Ghz cool

The network is slow compared with others (mostly have 100mbps ports), around 700KB/s download, but they promised 5 mbits, and in some way I love it :D
The upload speeds (downloading from other box) is around the same, 700KB/s n_n
    Also is unmetered! :P

I hope they will continue like this =)

  14. And following. We got some hiccups due to power issues, and had around 6 hours of downtime.
They compensated us with one extra week of service.
The response time to my “down” ticket was fast, really fast.

I missed some e-mail or tweet about the unscheduled downtime but at the end all is solved.

    This guys are great n_n

You are lucky guy. I had around 2-3 days downtime, and i was compensated with loss of all data on VPS. Oh, yes, i got brand new VPS to start over (do config, install everything and finaly to redo all work that is lost). No official anouncments that server is offline, they let us beleive that everything is perfectly fine until shocking news that data cannot be recovered. Never again. Cheap, but terribly bad.
