vpsVIBE - $5.99 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago

Updated December 2011 — vpsVIBE’s website is no longer resolvable since 5 December. Not too surprised from their track record. FAIL.

vpsVIBE John from vpsVIBE wrote to me introducing his new budget VPS hosting company. The same introductory offer can also be found on WHT. VPS starts from $3.99/month for their Vibe #1 plan. $5.99/month gets you “Vibe #2”, which has

  • 512MB guaranteed/768MB burstable memory
  • 55GB storage
  • 550GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers with Continuum in Chicago/Lombard IL (test IP: 74.121.182.115). That would be in the same data center as Vazapi, BigScoots and FTS Servers. As of the history of vpsVIBE, hmmm what history?? Domain registered in early June 2011 (just 2 weeks ago), and it appears that vpsVIBE has got no website when the above WHT offer was posted. It does not have a pretty simplistic site, with no info about the “business”, no SSL in the client area, no ToS/AUP on the website, etc. Registrant information is hidden behind WHOIS privacy. But we know that it’s John, the one who sold AlienVPS to Russell last November.

Well. It looks like he still has quite a bit to do before this new business can grow into a sell-able size :)

Their template is a lot like BuyVM’s.

    • At least BuyVM’s website works properly under Firefox. This one doesn’t.

        • jtaM in WHT. The email I got also addressed as John. You can look at previous AlienVPS posts to get his full name, and work from there. I thought he would be a designer kind of guy from other offers he made on WHT, so am surprised that a template was used in this site.

    • Hello, I’m Jake.

I’m working with John on this project and can confirm that it is the same John from AlienVPS. This project has been in planning for some time, however, we only recently decided on the name, hence the reason for the young domain name. Although John doesn’t have a great record for keeping companies, we really have no intention of selling. I run another large managed vps company, and this is an expansion to my services, so no plans to sell.

  2. This would appear to be veVPS’s site which (admittedly was similar in many ways to BuyVM’s) however looks as if they have just changed the background.

  3. **PS its not owned by John. He is helping a friend out on the sales side. A quick google reveals this: http://www.clubhabboforum.net/showthread.php?p=3827486#post3827486

    • It isn’t their fault directly.

The design is actually a colorized version of what vevps was using. VeVPS got theirs from this guy selling the template/design on WHT for pennies.

Nothing is clear. Why result amount different from what is listed on the site?

    • Maybe they’re prorating for the rest of this month and the full amount for next month?

      June 21, 2011 @ 11:10 pm | Reply
    • Yes that’s what I thought, although it would be nice to actually itemize and stated that out in the checkout.

      • Yup, just found it.

We currently prorata the billing for the 1st of every month. This means you will be billed on the 1st of every month, if you order after the 20th, you will be charged the remainder of the month, plus the following month.

  8. Seems to be genshared.com which has genvps.com as its WHOIS contact. GenVPS seems to be owned by a ‘Jake’. Also doesn’t appear to have a great uptime record according to the LEB Wiki.

    • Sorry, the above should read ‘Seems to be affiliated with genshared.com…’.

    • Hello, It would appear that is an uptime record of our main website, which, through no fault of our own, has experienced some patches of downtime. Our clients are located in a much more premium DC, in Dallas, TX and have not experienced such downtime.

We do have plans to move out website to a better, more premium DC in the near future to prevent this from happening in the future.

VPSVibe is located in a seperate DC from both our main site and GenVPS clients. Our clients at VPSVibe have been happy with the level of service receieved so far. I can also confirm that billing is set to pro rata.

I/O is very easily tolerable (what more could you ask for what they’re charging)

    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 11.5096 s, 93.3 MB/s

And nothing to argue about the download speed either.

    wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test

And transferring out of vpsVIBE to another VPS I have elsewhere I was getting ~10MB/s.

    • Hello, thank you for your comments. The decent speed you were getting was due to our server being connected via a 1Gbps port, allowing our clients to transfer data quickly.

I ordered this to test it out. It’s junk and I wouldn’t trust it. I’ve also just gotten some spam from this John Tamborino fellow that I’ve linked back to this. Looks like he’s some kid that recently graduated highschool. Avoid.
