LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Hey, don’t even try to use this hosting provider. You’ll be screwed I tell ya! If your comfortable with BAD service and cheap pricing then this site is for you. The worst hosting service provider on planet earth. Don’t believe me, Ok! Try it and see if you can’t remember my words! My advice… “STAY AWAY”
Mother, can you elaborate? Before I found FsckVPS (www.fsckvps.com) – which is just barely outside the price range to be featured on lowendbox.com – I was considering WebSpaceDepot for a Southeastern US location. Please go into more detail about your experiences with them. Shouting, “You Suck!”, while self-fullfilling, doesn’t really help the rest of us make an informed decision. :-)
Ken, Well in detail. Their support service really sucks! I requested a rdns two weeks ago and when I did a follow up to inquire why nothing was done!
They told me they had internal company issues.
Other requests, were also placed on HOLD!
Shockingly, my server was terminated after 2 two weeks of being setup. For what reason, I don’t know? Now, they got away with my balance for the server which I paid for in advance.
Basically, they’re good for nothing. Their support response Time, is totally BAD! Their website keeps on going on/OFF.
I’m tired of their Lies! They can’t give a good service, it’s like you have to beg for your money. Talk about money, some clients were not refunded for their orders which did not go through due to large numbers of orders. Talk about stability!
So, People Beware!
I’ve been with them since January, and since then they havent setup my reverse DNS, and my server has been down since early march, along with their control panel. I requested that my account be cancelled to their gmail account, and received no reply. Now, on the morning of the 3rd of April, I have already been charged twice, on the evening of the first and second of April. Luckily, I have now canceled my Paypal subscription, and switched to FsckVps, which offers an excellent service. It may be outside some peoples price range, but for $9.99 a month, you get between 512mb and 1g RAM,, and a 15% discount if you’re an open source developer.
