Do you offer the manual central backup feature?

    August 31, 2013 @ 7:42 pm | Reply
    • Greetings,

We can enable the SolusVM Quick Backup feature for your VPS. Once utilized, this creates an archive of your entire VPS and is stored in a folder within your VPS. Should you wish to restore that archive at some point in time, we can complete it via support ticket, or you can use the archive to restore specific files yourself.

Please request the SolusVM Quick Backup feature to be enabled on your VPS via a support ticket, there is no cost for this.

Maidstone is far off, if anything would be Greater London it would be Dartford.

            Hmmm?
Greater London was formally created by the London Government Act 1963, which came into force on 1 April 1965, replacing the administrative counties of Middlesex and London, adding the City of London, which was not under the London County Council, and absorbing parts of Kent, Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire.

@Nigel Reed: The distance a host may have to it’s leased equipment is not valid arguement for false advertising. If that would be allowed, I as a UK citizen would buy a server in Mexiko and sell it as a US one based in Texas. It’s all Northern America anyways, right? But you’re right that they obviously even didn’t check with Wikipedia where Kent is located. We can understand that. We all know Wikipedia is hard to use. Everybody struggles with the complicated Wikipedia.

My current VPS is getting a 60ms ping to their data center in Dallas. With WeLoveServers, their ping is…I kid you not…6-7ms! Great connectivity, great pre-sales and technical support. There’s a couple of things that I need for me to pull the trigger on this deal and they’re doing what they can right now (at 2am in the morning) to make this happen.

I’m looking forward to doing some benchmark testing and see how things perform once I have my website and database loaded up.

    • Good Evening,

Unsure how you are basing your comment, because we have been keeping customers updated I even posted an update in a comment on LEB, also our average ticket response time is under 10 minutes.. further the provisioning delay notice was also posted in the announcements area: http://core.weloveservers.net/announcements.php?id=9

UK VPS’s are being setup as we speak.

It is not… however the Dual 5520’s are quite the workhorses and provide more physical cores :) If your VPS was deployed with dual 5520’s processors, the advantage is that instead of 4 CPUs, we can upgrade you to 8 physical cores at no charge just let us know support@weloveservers.net

        • Good Evening,

Upgrade has been completed. Our hardware vendor in the UK does not have E3’s in stock atm, there is a very small performance difference between the two processors so we decided to set up the new UK servers with Dual 5520’s to avoid additional delays.

@AcuBcn I couldn’t get OpenVPN to work either. I did it exactly like how I did it on all my other VPS’s with other Providers and it works fine.

I even tried using an Automated script that you can find on Google to install OpenVPN. It worked fine with other providers but not here. Not sure why. Probably their Kernel config or something.

Anyways I resorted to using PPTP as well. guess were in the same boat.

I agree UK is now slower, guess they oversold this one.

      September 9, 2013 @ 7:08 am | Reply
    • Negative, it’s far from being oversold. Let’s just say IP space is our bottleneck in the UK… we ran out of IPv4 space before we could even fill up our current UK servers by 75%. We have much more capacity available resource wise, but it means nothing without additional IPv4 space. Once we receive our larger IP block and our group of brand new servers in the UK is ready we will be adding more stock, but we do not expect this to happen for at least the next few weeks because our provider is low on IPs in the UK atm, which is why we are out of stock for UK orders right now.

I just ran a speed test on all UK VPS nodes, all received similar results to the below.

      # wget http://109.73.162.6/128mbfile.tgz

I’m now to VPS, and I have been hitting them with several support tickets…4 or 5 so far. They just keep knocking them out – there aren’t any long waits, and you really get the feeling that they actually WANT to help you. Thanks guys!

Any new news on the UK servers? More importantly will this offer last until more UK servers are available?
I wish to get one of these but id much rather a UK one

Also completely new to vps. A question about the control panel. As I see in the offer the control panel is SolusVM, isn’t it? But in the shopping cart there are two panels for additional payment, one free (Kloxo) and no panel by default. What would be the right thing to do when ordering? And Chris, I know it’s repetitive – I also want the UK location, on the other hand would like to grab this offer while it lasts. Could you once more confirm that I’ll be able to change the location when you get more UK capacity? Please…

    • Hey Alexander,

Those are completely separate things. :) SolusVM is a VPS CP for shutting down, powering on, or restarting your server, in addition with other features like reimaging your VPS’s operating system, tracking bandwidth/disk/RAM usage, viewing fancy graphs of your server usage and the likes.

The control panel on the order forms i.e. Kloxo is a control panel for managing your domains, we offer free installation of Kloxo to make it easy on our customers, but it isn’t hard to install yourself either. You can learn more about Kloxo at http://lxcenter.org/software/kloxo

We also offer paid control panels i.e. cPanel and DirectAdmin.

But it’s important to remember that for those experienced with Linux, you can manage everything via SSH and not even have a control panel. Control panels like Kloxo and cPanel just make it easier to manage hosting websites on your server.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I think the main question is: Is there any costs in transferring your VPS from one location to an other?

      September 16, 2013 @ 2:53 pm | Reply
      • Hey Rick,

There is no fee to move the VPS over to the UK Datacenter at a later date. As Chris said we are out of stock at the present moment in the UK because no IP space is available, in addition to this we are waiting for the new servers to be built and sent out to the UK.

  97. Hey everyone,

Thank you for the ongoing interest.

As of September 25, what you see in the order form under the locations selection is all the VPS locations we have available for new orders right now. At the moment we are out of stock in almost all of our locations and currently only have Los Angeles and Orlando in stock, but these remaining locations are also running low on stock at the rate we have been selling.

We have been doing our very best to keep up with the demand and response, and have already ordered multiple servers in each location but it will be about a week due to shipping delays.

Want to be the first to know when we have our other locations back in stock? Add your email here: http://core.weloveservers.net/announcements.php?id=10

Looks like there’s a 72hr offer of double specs for double the promo price, which is pretty fantastic.

On the other hand, while support seems very responsive, the DNS service seems to be broken. I’ve been going back and forth with support, (I’m guessing their DNS doesn’t support .co domains), and I’m afraid I’ll probably have to go back to using Godaddy’s DNS service. If anyone from WeLoveServers is reading this, please help out with ticket #257085.

    Thanks!

    • Howdy Koguma,

I appreciate the great comment! I can confirm that our DNS service does support .co domains. Looking at ticket 257085, I was able to find your domain and your domain is loading on my side. Perhaps your ISP has not finished propagating yet. You can verify with IntoDNS or a proxy to see that your domain is indeed configured properly.

        Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update. I actually found the solution in the knowledge base. I’m guessing this is a ‘pecularity’ of SolusVM’s DNS implementation. It needs both a root level A record and WWW as an A record. Even if you don’t use or want a WWW A record, you need one. Strange, but after doing that, it works.

All in all a good experience so far. Thanks!

    • Greetings,

As discussed via your support ticket, there is no issue with the Orlando network. Something must be inaccurate with the script that you are using to benchmark, my guess would be that the download mirrors are not up to date.

For example, in your test posted above, you received 608KB/s to Softlayer Seattle, yet I used their own test file here http://www.softlayer.com/about/datacenters/seattle and received 10-11 MB/s on the host node your VPS is on.

      # wget -O /dev/null http://speedtest.sea01.softlayer.com/downloads/test100.zip

Another example would be SoftLayer Washington DC. You posted 994KB/s, yet a speedtest download link from http://www.softlayer.com/about/datacenters/washington-dc shows 31 MB/s.

This company is a scam. Paid for services and decided It just was not for me. The reply I recived was “Refunds are offered on a case by case basis. If we made an error or there is an issue with our service, we will always be the first to acknowledge it and grant a refund or appropriate compensation if requested.

    ==

Please note that you agreed to the TOS upon ordering your service. If there is anything else I can do for you, feel free to let me know.

    Thank you for your understanding.”

Be warned… if you are wanting to have your money stolen do not buy from these guys.

    • Jordan – Our TOS is crystal clear about refunds, you agreed to it when ordering and we mutually expect our clients to comply with our TOS/AUP the same way you expect us to stick to our TOS/AUP.

You contacted us requesting a refund just because you decided that you didn’t need the vps anymore, if there was a problem with the VPS and an attempt to contact support to resolve it was unsuccessful, we are more than happy to provide a full refund. I would say our policy when it comes to refunds (and everything else in general) is more than flexible, but in your case we felt a refund wasn’t justified for as we provided everything you paid for. As of right now, your vps service is still humming along and active.

I do not see how this makes our company a scam.

Not to be that guy here but technically their agreement does state that it is at their discretion to offer them. Live, learn, and be sure you need a VPS. I feel they are not a scam because they did put my server up with exactly what was advertised. I do hope I will be able to keep my server going at the $19 a year after the first year but if I don’t then I wont bash them because I got what was advertised at the time, as you accepted the terms as they are now.

      • Greetings,

The $19 a year promotional rate is guaranteed for the life of the service, you will be able to renew your server at the same rate.

        • The servers themselves have been ready the problem is the IP’s. RIPE is requesting additional information from our provider hence the delay. Unfortunately the demand for IPV4 and low supply has effected us the same way it has affected every other company. So that is what the hold up is on getting UK back in stock, we hope to be taking orders for our UK location again soon. We have the new group of servers racked and ready… only waiting on the IP situation atm.

Like many of you I just missed out on the UK location when this deal was first announced. But Chris@Weloveservers said if I wanted to take advantage of the offer and accept a US location he’d switch me at the earliest opportunity. Well, true to his word he contacted *ME* in the early hours of this morning saying some UK addresses had been released and would I still like him to move me over? Of course I said yes. From personal experience, I know of a few resellers that could learn a thing or two about customer service from these people. Good effort and thanks for your attentiveness. So far I’m very pleased I went with this deal.

    • Good Morning,

Whenever there is an issue with a host, we publish them and do our very best to keep everyone updated via our status page at https://core.weloveservers.net/serverstatus.php

You must be logged into the client area in order to view the page. Email me directly @ c.boswell [at] weloveservers [dot] net as I would like to take a few minutes to speak with you regarding this.

On another note we will be adding 24×7 phone support this week as we want to offer even more ways for our customers to reach out to us in addition to tickets and email, we are finalizing the setup of the phone system as we speak. We should also have some positive news regarding UK stock in the next coming days.

An update to my issue above, it has been resolved very quickly. The system didn’t recognize my hostname. I would say the server is pretty good so far only with 1-2 min downtimes occasionally. it is LIGHTNING FAST even though it is hosted thru chicagovps, it sure beats the $30 vps that I have at chicagovps. I left MiniVPS and possibly chicagovps because I got in on the double every thing plan which is great.

    Satisfied so far.

Iniz and UGVPS seem to be trying to muster some kind of competition for the annual deal here…I was tempted to give in to the INIZ Amsterdam deal….But I already have been using some servers through this offer, and, in every transaction, I have had nothing but satisfactory results on my end.
Having used several different providers at times and trying out different services, I can say that Chris and crew @W.L.S. have exceeded my expectations in performance on this offer…
I am now working on migrating the last of my data from my old providers over to WLS.

It transpires that I’ve been one of those affected by the intermittent hardware issue in the UK. But here’s a different spin: in my opinion a true test of a company’s worth is how they perform when things *aren’t* going right. Even though the issue is outside their direct control, I can honestly say Chris and his team couldn’t have done more to keep me a happy customer … and that is worth a lot.

I’m the sort of person that likes to know the minutiae of problems so I can assess for myself how it will impact me. WLS have kept me abreast of the situation, what diagnosis they were performing, what they had found and what they were going to do about it. If problems *are* going to occur, it’s this level of support that I expect and yet few meet the mark. So I’m confident WLS are in it for the long haul and I look forward to getting the 99.9% uptime promised as from this evening ;)

    • Greetings Dias,

I remember personally working with you to resolve this a couple weeks ago, if I recall correctly you did not add your domain properly to the DNS manager which is why you were facing issues…

Any other issues, please let us know. For others reading this curious, we offer complimentary DNS hosting for our VPS customers, which saves you the effort from managing your own DNS server. For more details please see http://core.weloveservers.net/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=8

  130. I’ve been with WLS for about a year now and service has been exceptional. These people have a real business and customer support plan set up, and not just taking payments on orders like my old host. I got myself two 1GB VPS machines, and recommended a friend over as well who was considering Chicago VPS. This deal was way too good to pass up and ignore.

    Keep up the good work!

I followed the link to your site and but the price was totally different from what was stated on LEB. I’m sure this is only an issue where LEB has run out of stock on your item.
If we can get a conversation started about my needs, I’d like to get started with you as soon as possible.

My problem is that I kept getting e-mails asking me to pay for the server ($19/year) although I’ve paid when I rented it already. I’m still waiting for access on my server. Haven’t received a single answer except of “We will pass your ticket over to our management staff” (twice).

Recently purchased the $19 plan, so far support and email response time has been fantastic, however I’m having weird trouble installing Webmin on 13.04 64bit (also tried 12.04 64) have re-installed OS several times but it always seems to hang at “Unpacking Webmin”. Disk access seems slow as well, while internet connection seems great, installing and upgrading appears to take forever (compared to another VPS I rent through another provider which averages >500MB/s) where I only seem to be getting an average of 16-50 MB/s on this server. Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m on Node 11

It seems that the UK datacenter has issues forwarding port 47 that is vital for the PPTP GRE Protocol.

      Hi Luigi,

I’ve just had exactly the same problem in the Buffalo data centre (no incoming GRE traffic)

The support response was basically “it’s your configuration that’s wrong”, which I was very sceptical about but I was getting nowhere so I moved on. After wasting hours reinstalling, analysing logs, network traces and deciphering support responses, I decided to use OpenVPN which worked without problems.

I was in the middle of setting up the VPS as mirror for one my sites when the VPS was cancelled by Chris. Thankfully I didn’t have anything irreplaceable on the box.

I’d recommend either using OpenVPN or finding another provider if you’re still having problems using PPTP. You should be able to setup PPTP in less than 5 minutes, not 2 weeks!

    • Greetings,

I have located your support ticket and have responded to it with more information. It appears that you have modified your SSHD configuration file, and changed it from the default SSH port (22) to something else. For security reasons I obviously won’t be posting your custom SSH port in public, but I did go ahead and update your support ticket with it. You can also run “cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config | grep Port” to verify.

You can use the SolusVM Console feature to access your server console to reset/reinstall SSH to restore it to the default configurations.

  151. Purchased a server as this offer is still available (i think). Opened a ticket before the sale asking about CentOS 5 image and got a response in 10 mins :-)

When I first got the server I tested the disk with DD (dd bs=1M count=256 if=/dev/zero of=test conv=fdatasync) and got a normal result of 90 MB/s.

However, this morning I re-tested with the same command and got 661 MB/s! I’m not sure what changed or what disks they use, but this server is AMAZING! I also asked about the UK location in my ticket, however they are out of stock at the moment. Upload speed is a little slow (speedtest-cli), but still perfectly usable. VERY pleased with this service, you have me as a customer for life.

Thank you for the great words, we’re happy to have you with us. Have you requested an upgrade to 1Gbps yet? I presume not going off your speedtest result. We are offering a free upgrade to anyone from LEB to a 1Gbps port if you open a support ticket and request it.

You should have much better speedtest results once your VPS has been upgraded to a 1Gbps port, as by default they are on 100Mbps ports. :]

You think? They clearly are. Very obvious with what looks to be disk thrashing from them giving out 1GB+ for so cheap. Disk performance in general is terrible. Can’t really comment on bandwidth, don’t use it that often.

I have one of these in Orlando. Performance is pretty bad, using Node51 right now and anything disk related is terrible. Just executing some simple scripts that start up processes take time. Updating the box also takes a while. Not very happy with this deal but for what it cost i can manage.

Oh and forgot to mention that the bad performance translates to SolusVM as well. Note the error:

An error occurred processing your request. The host is currently unavailable. Please try again later
      Status Unknown
      IPv4 Address 1
      IP Address xxxxxxxxx
      Virtualization Type (OpenVZ)
      Hostname vps.com
      Node Node51 – ORL

The VPS is up, it’s just that performance sucks so bad that i can’t even manage it from the panel most of the time (forget about reinstalling it or any other control panel related activity).

I’m guessing they read this, the performance of my box seems to have improved substantially since I wrote this comment.
