URPad has been featured EIGHT times before on LowEndBox, generally receiving positive feedback from their clients. Now they’re stepping up a notch and becoming a whole lot more competitive with their currently unbeatable yearly offer. URPad are one of the first, if not the first, to provide this amount of resources at the $12/yr pricepoint, in a variety of locations. Their second, monthly based, offer is also pretty competitive and, unlike the first, includes Iceland. However, if you select the Iceland location for the $7 month 2GB plan, you will only receive 250GB of Bandwidth as opposed to 2000GB for the US locations. They claim servers are set up instantly, do comment below if this is, or isn’t, the case.

The $7/m 2GB can be paid monthly, quarterly, annually, biannually and triennially with additional discounts if you pay for a longer time frame of course. URPad.net guarantees a 30 minute response time for technical support and guarantees a 99.9% uptime guarantee. PayPal, Moneybookers, All Major Credit Cards, and Liberty Reserve are all accepted payment methods. You can view their terms of service here.

        • You should find the option to reinstall to “ubuntu-12.04-x86_custom.tar.gz” or “ubuntu-12.04-x86_64_custom.tar.gz” in SolusVM.

Can you please email support@urpad.net with your SolusVM login details if you are unable to find this? We will be able to guide you and provide screenshots if you contact us. LEB is not our helpdesk.

I have personally created myself a VPS just now for testing purposes and was able to reinstall to the 12.04 templates without any issues.

Please validate yourself as its still unclear to me what your issue really is, even if you are not a client anymore I would love to investigate this as it doesnt sound normal.

      • Cory:

My issues both surrounded billing. Two separate instances where attempts were made to contact URPad because of billing problems without getting a timely response or even a response. As I said before, I had a billing ticket open for over two weeks without reply and left a voicemail without receiving any reply.

Aside from that I had no technical issues with you as a provider. The price point and resources provided were good. Had billing support been better I would probably still be a client of yours.

        Regards,

        Cory

    • Yet more trashing on LEB without any requirement for evidence, and these trolls never volunteer it either.

About time for a degree of moderation with all the trashing going on.

        November 6, 2012 @ 2:35 pm | Reply
    • Of course you can host an unlimited number of domains with any VPS as you will have full, direct root access to your server. You can configure it however you wish and set your own limits when it comes to stuff like subdomains, addon domains, email accounts, etc. There’s no arbitrary limit.

This applies to every VPS provider out there that includes root access. This is likely what John was referring as it sounded like you were talking more about shared hosting rather than a VPS.

Let us know if you require any further clarification.

We have been in business for 5 years under our parent company (FTNHosting.net) and own multiple established web hosting businesses. We have a good number of active customers among our brands and trust me we wouldn’t be in business after 5 years if our service was not solid. To this day we are still growing steadily and stronger than ever!

You can also see the other comments here, some people have commented with reviews about our service in this LEB listing. There are also more reviews about our service on Lowendbox’s forum site (Lowendtalk).

Let us know if you have any other questions, we appreciate the opportunity and hope to be working with you soon!

What is your ticket ID? Ethan and I have been manning the phones today and have been receiving phone calls fine all morning and day, what number did you call from so I can see why you didn’t get an answer? Please feel free to email all of this information to me at kevin@ftnhosting.net as this is sensitive personal information of yours that you obviously wouldn’t want to post in public.

We realize speed and overall excellent service is important for everyone, and its our continuous goal to provide this to our customers, and we have been doing just that for the past 5 years we’ve been in business.

If you have the same situation like me (Ordered LA location but received different location) don’t worry.

Ethan told me that Urpad is using ColoCrossing IP Space for LA DC.

      November 7, 2012 @ 6:11 am | Reply
      • Yes, these are new ranges which is why. Never rely on geo IP search tools to indicate where your server is located but rather rely on traceroutes. For one, geo IP search tools can be inaccurate depending on the tool used, and for two anyone can SWIP their IPs to any location they want so it really is not accurate.

We already requested ARIN to update the locations accordingly to match the server location for our LA ranges, and already received confirmation emails from them confirming the changes, so hopefully everything will be accurate within the next few days or so to minimize any confusions to customers moving forward.

        Thanks

    Offer really sounds nice.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. are IP-adresses geolocated to US or Canada at Buffalo location?
    2. what happens if bandwidth should be used up? Did not find any information on that on your website. Will the service just stop until next monath or do any costs occur for overages?

    November 6, 2012 @ 9:37 pm | Reply
    • 1. They are Geolocated to the US. You can check the test IP(s) for yourself.

      2. The VPS will automatically be suspended when you have reached your bandwidth quota. However, you will receive multiple email notifications warning you are approaching your bandwidth limit for the month.

The VPS will be automatically unsuspended in the next billing cycle (new month), unless you choose to purchase an immediate bandwidth upgrade.

      Thanks,

Really nice! but one problem – no direct payments via PayPal, URPad use 2Checkout for payments well known as suspected payment gateway, also take some unautorized charges, even cancel subscription. It seen even from comments. So far

    November 7, 2012 @ 12:20 am | Reply
    • 2Checkout is an Inc500 company, which processes over 215 million per year. They are not in the business of scamming customers such as taking unauthorized charges/ cancelling subscriptions, or they would not process over 215 million dollars per year. Please see: http://www.inc.com/inc5000/profile/2checkoutcom

We (FTNHosting & its brands) are one of their largest vendors in the hosting/IT field and have been working with them for the past 4-5 years. We have absolutely no complaints about 2Checkout and it has always been a huge pleasure to work with them.

Some customers have payments fail 2Checkout’s fraud check if they put fake information that doesn’t match what is on file with Paypal, I have seen some people put fake billing information like “xxx” and “ss” for their address/country and wonder why their payment failed… well obviously this is why 2Checkout might reverse the payment to protect us from fraud (the seller).

Bottom line: If you have nothing to hide and are a legitimate customer, you won’t experience any issues with 2Checkout. Just don’t provide fake billing details when checking out and you won’t have any problems.

      • fitvps:

Really! Their website (2CO) looks like make by college students not a solid for a big company. Why not a accept payments directly via PayPal instead this, is a better and safe

        November 8, 2012 @ 12:34 am | Reply
        • Gotta love your false assumptions! Once again, 2Checkout is an Inc500 company, that processes over 215 million dollars in USD per year. They are not a small company by any means, nor are they ran by “college” kids. Many other companies worldwide process payments through 2Checkout and they are quite reputable. You can see this for yourself here: http://www.inc.com/inc5000/profile/2checkoutcom

We do not have a direct relationship with PayPal, since 2Checkout processes both Paypal and credit card payments for us with ease, and doesn’t require customers to create an account to check out.

Additionally 2Checkout also provides us with better fraud screening tools to prevent chargebacks. Whenever a customer makes a purchase, that purchase is automatically reviewed by 2Checkout’s Fraud Prevention Unit prior approving or accepting the payment. This reduces the chance of an instant chargeback in the event a fraudulent transaction were to occur, whereas with PayPal, the chargeback could be received before we have a chance to refund it, costing us lots of money in chargeback fees. This is just one of many reasons why more and more hosting companies (and even non-IT related companies in general) are switching over to 2Checkout to process their customer payments.

To each of their own, I guess. Why does it matter to you how we process our payments anyway? As a consumer, what matters is that we accept both Paypal and credit card payments – we do just that, so what’s the issue?

Let us know if you have any further concerns.

          Thanks

          November 8, 2012 @ 12:46 am | Reply
        • We have used 2checkuut for a few years now, its been serving us well and we’ll never go back to accepting PayPal directly, 2checkout has a very unique fraud department, they along with our own billing department catch fraudsters on daily bases and without 2Checkouts help I don’t think we’d be a complete team in the billing department ;)

We process thousands with 2Checkout and never ever had a issue with them, I would say its safe to assume your judging a book by its cover in this case.

Moving forward hats off to Urpad and keep up the terrific sales.

    • It looks like you ordered your VPS with a special character in your password. Special characters include anything such as: ` \ * ) ( etc… which causes the VPS setup process to break, as SolusVM’s WHMCS *API* does not support advanced characters.

This caused your VPS setup to only half way complete, it looks like one of our staff already took care of you in ticket #579788 and recreated your VPS with an acceptable password. After its setup you will be able to change it to a password with advanced characters however during the initial setup process it must be a password with letters and numbers only.

This applies to every host utilizing SolusVM, not just us.

Did you sign up with any weird char’s in your root pass?

Apparently when I ordered from ChicagoVPS and Photon I had a star in my password and they told me solusvm’s API didn’t support it, breaking the setup process thus requiring a manual recreate or something.

Since then i learned to order without any weird letters as this is a problem with Api. My vps with urpad has been instant setup. Performance is decent as well. Will keep everyone updated.

        • Curt is absolutely correct, I just explained this to consatan above. As Curt mentioned the same goes for every host using SolusVM and WHMCS.

The API does not support advanced characters which causes the setup process to be incomplete.

To anyone else reading this, keep this in mind, initially order your VPS with a root password that is letters and numbers only or else the setup process won’t finish, and after its setup you can change your password to something more complex to include advanced characters if you desire.

Angie, what is your invoice number so I can recreate your VPS with an acceptable password to get you online right away?

          Thanks,

          Kevin

We ran out of available IP addresses in our Buffalo location today as we received more orders than anticipated last night.

We were awaiting our upstream provider to issue more IPs for us, and at this time this has been done.

All pending orders in Buffalo should be processed now and everything is back to normal, so orders should now be 100% instant setup.

      Sorry about that!

      Thanks,

Got mine yesterday. Setup really was fast: after returning from 2Ceckouts site service was shown active. VPS pingable even before i got the email with accessdata to the control panel.

As I am not a Linux pro, I can`t say or test too much. Reinstalled Debian minimal via Solus panel and set up PPTPd just to access US georestricted content. Works perfect for me.
      Ran two speedtests:
      dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
      16384+0 records in
      16384+0 records out
      1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 6.58529 s, 163 MB/s

      dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
      16384+0 records in
      16384+0 records out
      1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 5.41396 s, 198 MB/s

Did not need any support so far, so I can’t say anything about it.

  44. I already have a VPS, but for $12/year, I would be insane to pass this up. Bought yesterday, came online instantly. Sent in a ticket today to sales and got a response in two hours. Pretty good, IMHO, I have no doubt that they monitor tech support even more closely. I contacted sales to ask for an upgrade to 512MB memory, and Kevin let me have it for $12 additional, rather than the usual $24. I now have a 512MB VPS for $24/year, rather than the $60/year I am paying from another company. I have a feeling I’m going to like Urpad a lot.

      • I may have spoken too soon. My post above was right after I paid the extra $12, and I figured with the service I had had so far with the sales department I could count on getting the upgrade in a few minutes. It’s been three hours, still sitting at 256MB memory and no response to the ticket. Hmmm…

        November 12, 2012 @ 9:50 pm | Reply
        • Mr. Strout,

You have a SALES ticket, upgrades need to be done by management as sales personnel do not have access to SolusVM.

Additionally, you bumped your ticket 3 times in a row, because we didn’t reply in 1 hour. That is unacceptable for a sales request considering its not a service-impacting issue. If you are aware of a hosting company that offers 24×7 MANAGEMENT team, please let me know. You won’t find 1.

Also when you bump your ticket, you reset your position in the queue to be assisted. We are very busy with sales today since its Monday, and I personally did over 60 sales tickets since this morning already. Because of the Veterans Day weekend we let some of our other sales staff have Monday off, so its just Chris and I working on sales requests today. So its not helping your case by bumping your ticket 3+ times.

I also want to make it clear, as other clients of ours have commented for on LEB, we guarantee 30 minute response times on all TECHNICAL support requests, with our average response time being under a few minutes.

We’re very sorry that you expect your hosting provider to be staffed on a 24×7 basis on management and sales requests, however it is highly unreasonable and I have yet to see a hosting company staff management on a 24×7 basis.

          Thanks,

          Kevin

          November 12, 2012 @ 10:04 pm | Reply
        • As I said on the ticket, all you had to do was tell me it would be a few hours (three, incidentally), and I wouldn’t have said anything. That is reasonable. Now that I know, I’ll keep my mouth shut for at least 24 hours.

          November 12, 2012 @ 10:07 pm | Reply
        • …And I just got the upgrade. I was never unhappy about this, still not, and I’m sorry if I made you unhappy. Just a bit of friendly advice: if it will take some time, say so, and I’ll happily wait. My point still applies: when you respond quickly, ask for and are given money, and then don’t say anything for a while, it’s natural to wonder why.

          November 12, 2012 @ 10:11 pm | Reply
        • Perhaps don’t bump your tickets 3 times in a row in the future for not receiving an instant response on a sales request, as you only caused delays for yourself by doing that =)

          Thanks

Set up shorewall this morning with a very limited effort just because I am lazy and I do prefer shorewall to do all the DNAT stuff :P. Wonder what this 2CO situation is about, since other hosts are able to use paypal and tolerate its issues (which I’m sure exist). All processors including Paypal have all kinds of obnoxious crap associated. Paypal is useful enough that I held my nose and signed up anyway, but one such account is enough, I don’t want another one.

    • Paul,

2Checkout does not require customers to create an account with them. In fact, I don’t even think that is possible.

Checking out is as simple as checking out with PayPal, all it takes is a few clicks, and 2Checkout will prompt you whether you’d like to pay via PayPal or credit card.

If you choose Paypal they will simply redirect you to Paypal to complete your payment within a few clicks through Paypal. Then your VPS is setup instantly by our billing system, and login details dispatched to your email.

I hope this helps clarifies as you were clearly misinformed.

This is almost too good to be true. I think I might have to get one more. The Dallas VPS I purchased has easily been the best $12 I’ve ever spent. I should note that it seems like this IP range is under constant automated brute force attacks from all over (mostly China), so be sure to pick a strong password from the very beginning and ramp up security tight. I should note that I’m new to this VPS game though, and this is probably typical. Overall I’m blown away.

  76. Kelvin:

ordered my VPS around 8 hours ago, not yet running.

Emailed asking how long does it take them to commission a VPS, and they responded 6-8 weeks… I assume they mean affiliate commission!

Not a “instant setup” as claimed…

I have found that its only instant when you order with out the LEB order link. but then you dont get the low rate.
