YardVPS - $15/Year 128MB OpenVZ VPS

YardVPS Jimmy from PhotonVPS/Profuse Solutions has emailed me about their announcement of YardVPS, a “new brand of completely unmanaged VPS”. VPS packages start from $15/Year — a price point famously created by BuyVM back in August and subsequently copied by NordicVPS. You get

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers will be at the same DC where the other services from Profuse Solutions are — Los Angeles CA. Here is one related WHT thread about them. Domain is indeed only registered 3 weeks ago but do remember that they are a new brand of an existing player that has pretty good support from Asia.

  1. Wow, those colors look funny in Firefox.

    • Argh. Don’t tell me your web developer has only tested the site on MSIE…

      • Nope, Google Chrome.

I checked again on Firefox and it looks corrected now though, the screenshot just displays the colors incorrectly.

I think it’d be fair to also mention AvailableVPS with their $14/year :)

Only difference is that buyvm is a crook, running the show, and Photon, they have a reputable history.

that’s what I’m talking about. say it straight. peeps don’t get this; if you sign up in the beginning with a cheap provider you get great service coz he don’t have too many customers, but as the confidence grows and peeps buy into the plan; the node gets overstuffed. my policy: avoid all the stuff in the yearly division. its just not worth it.

    @Tom

What are you talking about? I have been with buyvm since the $15 128MB offer and had no problems.

    • Tom:

Pike, I mean that calling buyvm a crook backed by frantech is simply retarded and that no matter what provider, if you end up being one of the the first people on the node your performance will be great until they fill up the node.

      • but it’s true, they are TOTAL CROOKS! avoid them.
they got no clue about VPS and hosting. their servers reboot all the time, and my process keep getting killed. because out of memory, but im only 50% of memory usage.
        they are total useless.

    • If you do check comments from their past offers you’ll see that BuyVM is not smooth sailing either. Mine at BuyVM is okay. Rebooted a few times, had some IO wait issue every now and then, but is generally okay.

      • You’re on a bummed node that has some back cores on the CPU, hense the reboots. We finally got it diagnosed so there is going to be a planned swap out on Wednesday most likey. Pretty sad, the CPU was the only thing we didn’t replace in the chassis swap :(

        • I have 2 accounts with BuyVM. The 128/256MB ($15/year) was a “disaster”, but it has been stable for this past 2 weeks, while the 256/512MB ($3.5/Month) is stable from the start. However, I haven’t utilize it for production until I am sure that there will be no problem of the same type arise in the future.

    October 25, 2010 @ 8:03 am | Reply
    • Tom:

Nothing to compare, nordic has been at least for a month with there offer and this one has been 2 days.
I think nordic had only 2 node restarts in 30 days and no downtime besides that on there 128mb offer.

Their site is yet to be completely developed.

One stunning thing is they give a 10% commission for affiliates. Really amazed if they can make profit of even a dime with such low rates. :)

BuyVM and Nordic allow it so there isn’t hard choice for me. I will pass this offer.

Thanks for spotting this. Also check out this ‘gem’:

      > Examples of prohibited content or links include (but are not limited to):
      > * Distribution of music files or any other material in which the account holder does not own the copyright.

Why yes sir, I do not own the copyright on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution, and yet it is perfectly legal for me to distribute it (as well as thousands of other similar freely licensed works). With such dimwitted AUP, this offer is definitely useless compared to BuyVM and Nordic. You can say it’s a minor thing, but it’s exactly things like that, which are helpful in estimating what to expect from the service.

    • TUN/TAP is enable at customer’s request this allow us to fight abuse that might go on in terms of fraud.

MPPE is not enable due to our multi-level platforms we support. It is recommended to use our WARP edition for PPTPD since no custom compilation of kernels are necessary.

We currently use Ksplice + stocked kernel giving us better security updates and stability.

Debian was also reflected on the welcome e-mails. I noticed when I tried to run apt-cache and it was strangely missing. :) A quick visit to SolusVM and a reinstall should get things in order.

As you have webmin installed, you can configure BIND to run via Webmin, Here’s a Tutorial i found after googling just for you.
      http://rimuhosting.com/support/bindviawebmin.js
I hope this helps, if not, install bind via your package manager (yum/apt-get etc) and read the readme files. If your too lazy to read, then you won’t learn ;)

  42. All orders are processed in real time so if it didn’t go through, it probably didnt past our fraud check and those are manually batched through. We batch through these every so often to ensure a fast deployments for new clients.

Any performance issues please let us know we have quite a lot of nodes which we managed. Given the way OpenVZ works there will be spikes from
other clients or over usage of another account. We constantly monitor our node but if they were missed just let us know so we can pinpoint where this is occurring.

If you want a better stable feed I recommend going to our Tree editions where CPU isolation and spikes are better controlled on these node.
