Xen/SolusVM solutions, servers in DuPont Fabros Datacenter outside of Chicago IL and are backed by ColoCrossing’s Reliable all Cisco Network. They seem to have some pretty recent Linux distro — Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14 for example, although only 64bit versions are available. From their previous post here they have just started this month. Domain is registered by Chris (a Velocity Server sales/support guy) and Jeremiah (network guy, tech support and many other hats).

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.

I`m also looking for a Chicago based VPS (prefer semi-managed cPanel). Any other companies with a DC in Chicago?
$81.22/12 = $6.77 > $6.45
why?
Looks like some creative math done by the provider..
I`m also looking for a Chicago based VPS
Any test ip and test file ?
DuPont Fabros Datacenter is pretty good one. I don’t know what kind of hardware grade the provider is using?
The data center is in near by Chicago international airport and pretty solid data center. Rackspace uses that data center.
How much swap available?
What version of XEN they’re running? If 3.3+, I’m pretty sure they’re overcommiting RAM..
I think it would be silly for low end Xen/XenServer providers NOT to overcommit their memory as after all, most servers are under utilized.
However overcommitting under Xen is very different from overcommitting under OpenVZ.
I agree, but overcommit with moderation, and not allocating resources they will not have spare. 🙂
@dicarsio, We are not overcommiting RAM, what you buy is allocated to you and just you. Just wanted to clear that up 🙂 We believe in quality!
Here is a test IP you may use:
96.8.112.195
@Hosting Fan: we can manage the WHM portion of the account if you would like and keep it updated. its something would could work out.
@Innya: We use enterprise grade quality hardware. All named brand Super Micro and Intel hardware with Western Digital hard drives.
now “Out of Stock”…
@Lei
We are currently out of stock because we are not going to push our machine to hold more than it is allocated for. We are working on getting several other physical machines up to hold the demand that we currently have for our services.
Myself and Chris do apologize for this, but we do hope to have at least one machine up tomorrow and more coming online quicker than this one.
Thanks,
Jeremiah
Can’t we pre-order? 🙂
Dicarsio, we can take pre-orders, that is a great idea. I will see what we can get up on or order page to allow people to pre-order.
Great! Tell me when you’ve done it, so I can preorder.
@dicarsio, our new box is up, if you want to order go ahead 🙂
but the promote code expired
@Chris Fabozzi: the promotion code has expired. can you give us another one?
@Remember, and @dicarsio, I have extended the coupon until the 12th of November. Hope to see you guys soon 🙂

Chris
