LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BHost - £3.82 512MB OpenVZ VPS in UK

BHost Nick from BHost has sent me their latest exclusive offer for the LowEndBox readers. Use coupon code LOWENDBOXMARCH2011 to get 22% off recurring discount. They have also fixed the VAT problem so non-Eurozone customers don’t have to pay VAT. Their “Bronze” VPS package would be £3.82/month (~USD$6.18) after the discount.

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • OpenVZ

Servers with RapidSwitch in UK. UK registered limited company (company number 4483115) and has been around since 2002. Generally pretty good comments from previous two offers (here and here).

This is a pretty good offer, considering UK + 1TB bandwidth!

A good offer like always, if I manage to change my preference from DE-CIX hosts, I’ll be sure to keep this offer in mind ;).

Since LowEndAdmin brought me my BHost VPS, I’ve had no issues with it, in-fact its been running VNC for the last few months straight since he brought it.

I did refer a friend when they offered the free USB stick if you did, but I didn’t get one :(. I wanted to add it to my collection of Linux Sticks :)

    • Hi Daniel, could you log a support ticket letting us know your friend’s name and we’ll sort this out for you.

Sweet! Also BHost has some of the fastest connections on a VPS i’ve ever seen, my VPS gets 90mbps usually on a SpeedTest :)

I don’t know why some OpenVZ host’s hate VNC, I mean I have like 5 Firefox Tabs open in it and its using like 0.04 load, the only recourse intensive thing on OpenVZ VNC is Flash Player, but thats no surprise.

          March 9, 2011 @ 6:53 pm | Reply
        • VNC will run a window manager, such as GNOME, which eats up at least 100mb of RAM, meaning that the node can’t be oversold as much. Thus, less profit for the VPS provider. That’s why they don’t like it.

Very impressed with this company so far. The service is very quick (sub 10ms to London), system is quick. Custom service has been pretty good (not had to use them, which is fantastic). Generally A+ all around.

    Keep it up :)

They say that they have to charge everybody, even if the client isn;t located in the EU or the UK.

At the top of this post LEB admin has posted this
“They have also fixed the VAT problem so non-Eurozone customers don’t have to pay VAT”

Pebbles, submit a ticket and they should refund you.

      • Yes I was basing my statement on Nick’s comment here:

All non-EU customers are eligible for a rebate on any VAT unnecessarily paid – they just need to log a support ticket stating they are a non-EU customer and we’ll arrange everything.

So I guess VAT-removal is not automated and will require a support ticket from non-EU customers.

        • If our order form adds VAT inadvertently, a quick ticket to the accounts department will sort it!

BHost if they do oversell (which I don’t think they do), don’t oversell as much as Burst, and they use SolusVM.

Nick, i’m getting one in the next couple of days while the deal is still on. I want to use it was a VPN using something like openvpn to avoid being ddosed or booted from gaming sessions by “noobs” because it’s been happening increasingly often lately.
Using a VPN on a fairly local VPS should mean that the server wont take much of a strain due to the high end web connection and my personal IP stays hidden.

I’m not saying it’s definitely going to happen but it’s always a possibility because I know how easy it can be to get someone’s ip and throw a ddos attack at them.

Is there anything wrong with this because if someone does try to dos me they will just hit the server which should barely be affected and the attack stopped quickly once they realise it’s not going to affect me.

Other than that it’s just for some webhosting and maybe i’ll move my shoutcast over.

Hmm – I signed for this a few days ago…
Their UK 0800 24 hour support number is an answer machine, the UK support landline number is dead, and I’ve not had a response or acknowledgement of my email to them…

The serivce seems to be good in terms of speed, but I only took out a month by month before I commit to a 12 month.

    • I acknowledge I phone system has had problems, we’re in the process of moving our voip line provider to ensure better reliability… could you let me know the ticket number of your query and I will check it out…
