LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

CHVPS - $6.99 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Switzerland

CHVPS Fernando from CHVPS/PrivateLayer sent me a new LowEndBox-exclusive coupon code yesterday. Coupon code this time is MAN7SW, and to match the Christmas spirit it is now giving you 30% off recurring discount. They have recently migrated from Virtuozzo platform to OpenVZ/SolusVM, and after the discount “Cirrus 2” under “Normal Cloud Computing” would just fit under our listing criteria at $6.99/month. Direct signup link.

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 40GB storage
  • 1TB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Payments in either PayPal or 2Checkout. Servers with Equinix in Switzerland (test IP: 46.19.136.110). You can probably argue that “Cirrus 1” at $2.79/month with half the resource of Cirrus 2 might be a better deal. PrivateLayer has been around since May 2010. Lots of mixed feedbacks from their last two listings here. If you are looking for an KVM VPS in the Switzerland, this EDIS offer might be a better deal.

BEFORE BUYING – Be sure to read previous comments on this provider. Dumped all oversold server with VMWare clients into OpenVz and still had garbage performance due to poor management. Also unannounced network caps have happened a lot from 100mbps into 10mbps. Lucky I never ordered to experience such nonsense.

Permanent “it will be soon” stamenet. If I understand them correct they have IPv6 structure available but they aren’t really eager to bring it to customers and they prefer empty promises here.

Have been promising to provide KVM (earlier was Xen) since around end of August. As you can see – still nothing. It’d be okay if they did not say things like “in two weeks” or “in under the week”.

Cancel VPS with them from previous LEB offer after month, because it was unusable.
Port speed was limited to 10 mbps, CPU to 1000 Mhz, disk I/O arround 15 Mb/s…
Centos upgrade after reinstall takes around 2 hours…
Support after multiple requests could not even enable TUN/TAP, only trying to do this without success :)
Right after the order all was not so bad, but after a month perfomance has dropped too much.
So I fully agree in the opinion, that they oversold and would not recommend to buy a something from this company.

      Same here.

Had to send several emails to have an acceptable I/O (10MB/s write speed), CPU capped, last time I checked the network was not capped to 10Mb/s though but not very fast either (but more than enough for me).

I think it’s not a good deal if you want to host something on it or whatever (anyway OpenVZ…).
It can only be interesting IMHO for a reverse proxy IF they apply the same rules on their VPS than their dedi line…

It’s a shame as we can hear good things about their dedis. Dunno why they dedided to cap cap cap their VPSes…

    • @paul : could you give a little info on the Panama VPS. Stable? Price? ….

      • Inglar:

May be PL Panama VPS not so “lowendboxly” by price as their VPS in CH from previous offer :) Also may be they think, that for $2-3 you must can only connect to VPS via SSH, make ping test etc and be very happy with this :)

PrivateLayer sales was pretty flexible and you can contact them (sales@…) and ask them how much does it cost provide you a package you want. If I remember correctly I had/wanted 256mb (no swap)/150-200GB transfer/>= 10GB storage with debian6. I paid $4,99 monthly which is great for Panama/South America.

PrivateLayer has a very friendly and helpful technical support. There were in the beginning some reboots without explanation but everything got very stable after a 2-3 weeks. I didn’t have almost any downtime after that and I was very satisfied.

I have a Cirrus 1 VPS by CHVPS, and I am very pleased.

I have a “real” server in Hungary (University Network), so I have 100Mbit/s in Hungary. With my hungarian server is the download:

    server2009:~# wget chvps.holcam.hu/100m.bin

My result: the speed and the ping are in Europe very-very good.
The speed is between US and Europe slower (10Mbit/s) but accordingly I need a server in Europe.

You can test the download speed and the ping too.

VPS was in 5 hours activated. I don’t have any rebuild information in SolusVM so you can ask for rebuild your VPS.
