IcelandVPS is a subsidery of NetStall Limited who were founded earlier this year in May. Their servers are located at the ThorDC in Iceland. IcelandVPS are not the first company on here to offer vps in Iceland; EDIS originally started the trend earlier this year followed by URPad. For those of you who don’t know where Iceland is, Iceland is located north west of the UK in the Atlantic ocean.
They offer a full 7 day money back guarantee and a 99.9% Uptime guarantee. You can read their Terms of Services here and their privacy policy here. They take daily R1Soft backups and are expecting to have IPv6 available by the end of the year.
Network Information
IcelandVPS’s servers are located in Harfnarfjordur, Iceland with ThorDC.

For what it’s worth, the TOS say this (snippet, not the full TOS):
Having read this, it seems to me that the most important ‘selling point’ for a VPS in Iceland – hosting of controversial or otherwise normally undesired speech – does not really apply to this service. Considering the latency from Iceland to just about everything that is not Iceland, is worse than when hosted in that place itself, it won’t win on the network either (regardless of what company hosts it). I basically don’t really see any differences between this plan and a similar plan at a UK-based (for example) hosting company with UK servers.
Because of that, the question remains: what group of people is IcelandVPS trying to reach with their marketing? It seems to me that it literally does not have a target group.
Not saying their offered service is bad or anything (I haven’t used them, so can’t say anything about that), but I’m just curious who they try to sell to. Consider it a question to the company :)
Dude, this is a subsidiary from a company based in the UK. What do you else expect of ToS of such companies based in a colony of DMCAland?
So, first off – last time I checked the UK was not in any way, shape, or form a ‘colony’ of the US.
Second off, why the offended stance, acting as if I’m somehow surprised by these TOS, when I’m simply wondering what kind of customers they try to attract?
The UK is a puppet of the U.S. in all but name.
Thats a good point. I was interested in these servers because they are in the best position, Iceland, the paradise of internet. Now I read that they use UK ToS, so whats the point of using Iceland? Get higher ping for nothing?
Anyway, could any of you tell me how is UK copyright law? How are punishments against P2P? I read that worst country ever is Germany.
TOS reminds me of CityNetHost. First it outright forbids any use of IRC… and then with the next point proceeds into further detail which exact things you can’t do while you use IRC.
I mailed them and got next reply (pretty fast, I must say): “We will allow personal irc on our vps’. We won’t allow irc bulk scripts or scripts designed to cause irc floods etc.”
So disregarding unclear TOS this part seems OK – they allow non problematic personal IRC usage.
Tried few months ago, so far so good, support is very slow and respond for tickets for a 1-2 days or even more
I’ve had VPS’s from IcelandVPS since this summer and Barry has alway responded to my support tickets very quickly. In fact it’s one of my best experiences lately with VPS providers.
Thanks Emil. Your check is in the post.
I have just ordered one and noticed that it does not have burst memory enabled to 1gb , but has virtual swap of 512k, so i have mailed them to find out what the situation is.
Maybe its me misunderstanding the web control panel, but swap is typically stored on disk.
To follow up on previous posting…
One of the support guys was in touch pretty quickly and clarified the situation and after some investigation myself i decided to stay with the virtual swap and see how i get on.
Yeah, with OpenVZ the swap is virtual, which means it’s probably mostly in RAM.
But it is a better system than the old Burst RAM.
Some providers are not quite sure of the difference between burst RAM and vSwap and neither am I. AFAIK vSwap is actually RAM but your CPU utilization is curtailed after you begin to use it, just as using your hard disk’s swap space is slower than RAM, but is always available.
I think with burst RAM – well I leave that to the better informed.
my understanding is that vswap is like normal memory that has been artificially throttled so it performs similar to traditional swap.
Burst Ram is actual memory, vSwap is HD allocation, which will take out from your HD space.
If they promised 1G of Burst ram, and in turn gave you 512 vSwap, you’ve been cheated.
They will lie and cheat about vSwap, but it is NOT actual memory, it’s HD space allocation.
Actually no one cheated. This is how vswap calullation works,
512mb guaranteed , 1024 mb burst, vswap = burst – guaranteed = 512mb vswap.
@john
you are simply wrong.
You can twist the word like a old cheat, Burst is actual ram, vswap is not.
That is correct, VSwap is not RAM, it is emulated swap. But that does not mean it is necessarily stored on a hard disk like you said. It is still kept in RAM by the host node, just emulated to be slow like a swap for the guest.
If you have 1G vSwap, you will notice that HD has minus 1G of space, guess why?
that’s because vSwap is HS space, not actual memory, it will slow down the whole function.
If anybody says vSwap is actual Ram, it is a simple LIE.
HS space -> HD Space
No you will not. Simple as that. No hoster with vSwap substracts it from your HDD quota. You know why? Because that would be a completely silly thing to do. vSwap does not work like that.
None of these terms feature in any of the real literature of these systems. It’s all just marketing and differentiation to fool morons like you into thinking they’re getting more than the next shady VPS offers. Just buy a f*cking VPS and be done with it. Whatever vague numbers they give aren’t even remotely representative of anything real anyway. End of story.
What are you talking about? vSwap is part of OpenVZ. http://openvz.org/VSwap
Do you even know what OpenVZ is?
Bullshit. Neither of those words has any meaning whatsoever outside of marketing speak, since the average VPS provider is over-subscribed way beyond the sum total of what they claim to offer. The time of talking about precise hardware provisions for virtual servers ended years ago — the only reason such ideas are still floating around is marketing departments love pseudo-science, technobabble and deliberately ambiguous language. It’s like arguing over the details of the bible — it’s all bullshit, so why even f*cking bother.
Setup was fast, performance is good, but the 50 GB of disk space I had 2 days ago is rapidly shrinking…last night it was down to 40Gb…earlier this morning 36GB…and now only 34GB with 22G available. (653M used=Debian Squeeze 32-bit + Minstall + CSF Firewall).
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/simfs 34G 653M 22G 3% /
tmpfs 256M 0 256M 0% /lib/init/rw
tmpfs 256M 0 256M 0% /dev/shm
I noticed this also, they are going to install more HDD’s in the server today they said.
Awww no paypal ! :(

We do not accept PayPal
3 or 6 months subscriptions can be added also?
We can probably work something out if you wanted a 3 / 6 month subscription. If you want to open a sales ticket we’ll assist.
Is this possible to convert from one month billing cycle? Is there a some discounts?
I am getting an IcelandVPS account for my brother’s birthday present. Is it true that in Iceland they have banned porn from servers? I heard a rumor but the reseller who told me that said they didn’t know if it was true.t
Hi Guys, i bought one of these servers when the offer was available and have been using it heavily in the last few weeks, but have run into issues with low disk space. I should have 50gb but currently have 22gb.
I raised several support tickets with no response to any of them :( this is after the first call being logged nearly 2 weeks ago.
My recommendation is to avoid this provider at all costs, as the cost saving is not worth the hassle.
Hi Guys,
I wanted to follow up on my previous posting. Unfortunately even though its nearly 6 weeks since I logged the first call, none have been answered.
Avoid at all costs
Well what do you expect from a company which oversells their nodes but haven’t yet learned how to cheat the software they use lol.
by the way their site seems down from here.
