LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

1Ago - €3 128MB Xen VPS in Netherlands

1Ago 1Ago is a young Belgium company started in late 2009 (which makes it more than a year old), and Pieter from 1Ago emailed me a special promotion for the LowEndBox readers. This is “1AS-LEB128” package at €3/month with the following spec:

  • 128MB memory
  • 15GB storage (RAID10 15k SAS)
  • 20GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • 1x IPv4 + 1x IPv6
  • Xen (Citrix XenServer)

Servers with in Netherlands with Nedzone. You can use their website to test out ping and traceroute. Two strange things about this plan. First of all, 20GB/month data sounds ridiculously low — you can exhaust it within 27 minutes on its 100Mbps (assuming sustained rate). It’s probably only good for non-data intensive applications such as DNS.

Secondly there is no sign up link — you have to email mail@1ago.be and mention “1AS-LEB128” offer. The extra step might put people off (including the potential fraudsters I guess). It does have full contact details online though and it looks like a legitimate company.

Ah, the irony. A Xen VM (like everyone’s been asking for) in a fairly well-connected part of the world (always nice)… without enough bandwidth for most people running applications likely to take advantage of Xen’s benefits.

Still, it’d make a heck of a nice, um… nameserver. Or lightweight mailserver. Maybe host a MUD or MUSH or MOO?

FWIW, I have no problem having to email someone to order. It’s not like they’re using a Hotmail address, after all. :)

I should note you can evidently purchase additional bandwidth (250/500/1000GB at a time), though I’m not clear on the pricing, as it’s not actually mentioned on their website. I’d guess it’s probably close to that of liteserver.nl (and sundry other European hosts), who charge 30 Euro per terabyte. (That’s actually not bad at all, given that decent int’l bandwidth generally runs around 12-15 Euro/megabit in small commitments over there.)

Not stupendously awesome by LEB standards, perhaps, but please remember there *is* life beyond the land of the everything-for-nothing bottom-feeders. :)

I’ve ordered a VPS with them, decent and fast support. They seem to have updated their VPS plans at their website, more data transfer now.
