  1. I have two BF specials from last year and currently hunting for others. They were incredibly reliable, fast and overall good services.
For under 15$ / year each, the services was hands down the best I had so far, even compared to the more expensive “premium” providers.

How annoying. There was a Flash deal for $8.97/yr. Had it in my cart. Edited cart to see if I could set a location. When done, it was removed from cart and gone. Incredibly aggravating. And with the AUP, maybe it’d be easier if they outlined what IS actually allowed. I was thinking of trying to code a small aggregater for stuff like tablet deals, and scraping’s against policy. How do these guys have such a good rep with this bait and switch and draconian terms?

    • From LET: “Flash Deals: This will consist of manually scheduled & automatically generated deals by our system. The default timers are 4 minutes for each offer and 3 minute grace period for anyone who clicked the button to complete their order. This may be increased or decreased. Please try to stay calm & orderly when completing your order or you may be rate-limited.”

Regarding the AUP, I’ve read it 5 times and it only prohibits abuse under any form. I’m quite certain you can use scrapping as long as you do not use all of the allocated CPU or hammer the network constantly.

Dude, we are talking about a ~1$ per month server. You can barely get shared hosting at this price and you expect a fully dedicated server with no restrictions? If you want that kind of freedom of use, add two zeros to your budget!

Our reviews are genuine. We have plenty of bad ones as well, you can go through them and read the 1 star reviews if you prefer.

I tried your services, and you’re just incompetent! Your favorite line is “you want support for $2/month?” when faced with your service not actually functioning according to your own TOS. You came up with the pricing, you complain about it not being worth it? Incompetent little bitches who want the money but don’t want any responsibility.

    • Regarding the flash deals, they’re definitely not for everyone which is why we also have the other normal deals. They’re limited quantity and move within a few minutes. You will ultimately end up pulling a few hairs, but there’s also some excitement in return. It sounds like it was sold out by the time you were attempting to edit the cart. On another note: you cannot modify the location, each deal is exactly what’s stated on the page.

Our terms of service are not meant to be restrictive. We think it’s better than being vague. Sure, we could just state “any activity that negatively affects other customers is prohibited” but we try to list specific scenarios where that may occur. For example, scraping could cause a massive load on the server if it’s not done correctly. If you contact us beforehand, we can definitely speak with you and figure out if an exception can be made, and in most cases if you do scraping correctly and within the realm of the fair share of your service, we won’t even notice. We’ve never suspended someone just for scraping. It’s more like if we catch them abusing in various different ways and it’s as a result of scraping, we can then just tell the customer it’s not allowed versus having a vague explanation that makes it sound like we’re just trying to bother the customer.

@VirMach Hi, thanks for the response! It was a real bummer with the deal because I was certain I had it in my cart and wanted to check out. I did get another deal and I’m curious if you all will be addressing the double charges? Seems a lot of people got hit with a double, at least paying with Paypal…

Thanks for clearing up the terms of service. It really seems very restrictive, but I have no idea what I’m doing, and this is my first KVM, mostly to learn and have an easy to play with Linux system. I’m not super computer literate but I’m working on it. Is there a list somewhere of what you are allowed to do? Like, can you run your own web server and put up a webpage? Can you install stuff like node and play with it? If these are super stupid questions, I apologize. Also, I’m sorry for the tone of my first post; I was pretty frustrated to see that deal just evaporate from my cart! ;(

        December 1, 2019 @ 10:26 pm | Reply
        • For the double charges on PayPal, we have everything in place to avoid that on our end, as well as PayPal’s API option enabled to reject duplicate payments but they don’t seem to honor that. Our “official” policy on this is that our system catches the duplicate charge and auto-credits you, since this is the easiest way to deal with it automatically, and it’s counted as a non-refundable deposit. However, we do almost always refund these double charges if you just contact us.

Going back to terms of service discussions, you are basically fine doing anything that’s not illegal and is a good for fit your package. So you can do what you described, but as an example of what you shouldn’t do, you shouldn’t for example play around with something that’s going to be maxing out the CPU all the time.

I have had them for several years and they’re still overall good. Maybe it’s these deals doing it but my server has been out and I have been with support for over an hour already and all they asked was the ip and still have not heard back.

    November 30, 2019 @ 5:39 pm | Reply
    • It’s best to create a technical support ticket, provide as much information as possible, and request that it be flagged to high priority queue. We do have a button for reporting outages, and that always goes to the priority queue. What you’re describing is most likely unrelated to the deals and instead related to our OpenVZ to KVM conversions. That’s just my guess; it could be something completely different.

    • Yes, and we are fixing them. Your service should still be accessible and you can still access the control panel directly to manage it. The link is just broken between our billing panel and VPS control panel.

I spent >$100 buying a few flash BF deals before I read their AUP, and now I regret that. The AUP is really upsetting, there are too much restrictions, especially CPU or disk IO usage can not be certain threshold over something like 10 minutes, and from other’s reviews they are really shutting down VPS because of this.

I understand there are oversells over there; what I am surprised is they make users the ones responsible for maintaining server performance, which means their technicals are weak, and leads to very bad user experience, as I need to constantly worry if I exceeds the limit. I don’t plan to do anything weird, but I don’t like to worry about these things. A far better approach would be maintaining fair use of resource at hypervisor level. If it happens I am the only one who use a lot CPU, then I should be able to continuously using that; if other people start competing the CPU, I would be throttled, but still get my fair share; people with low CPU usage should have higher priority to maintain low response time, etc. The same applies to other resources such as the network or disk IO.

Overall speaking, their BF deals looks cheap but buy them only if you can bear with the headaches, and can live in fears of getting terminated.

This company was the worst experiency I had in TI last year.
I did buy a VPS to backup my things and they did shutdown my system EVERYDAY saying rsync are overloading the node.
I only use the system 25 minutes a day.
    I dont recomend at all.

    December 2, 2019 @ 7:52 am | Reply
    • It sounds like you were syncing a lot of data in a short period of time, which you might think is good to “only use the system 25 minutes a day” but it’s best if you can stretch out any large operation as much as possible. For rsync of many files especially, you should be using the correct flags to stay within your CPU limit. Otherwise you may go 10-30x above your limit.

We do allow some extreme bursts for maybe 5 or 10 minutes, and we understand these may occur from time to time.

If you can provide your user ID or e-mail with us I can take a look and see if we can make things right.

for everyone who missed them don’t frustrate at all, they are cheap for a reason – you can’t do anything serious on them anyway. (Expensive ones might be better but I don’t know)

    • If you are checking uplink speed using Speedtest/Fast or other websites like that you need to make sure they’re geolocating the IP correctly as otherwise they will connect you to a test server that is farther away. In addition, they’re usually not capable of correctly testing the speed if you cannot verify any inconsistencies on the test server’s end as well.

It’s best to test speed using something like iPerf (or use it for what you need and if it doesn’t work well, contact us.)

Here’s a speed test in Los Angeles, for our most highly network-utilized server.

      [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth

    • Hi Aaron, I understand your concern. We can’t share specifics numbers with you as we don’t want abusers taking advantage of our exact algorithms hen it comes to enforcement of our policies, but I can tell you that in most cases it’s nowhere close to what’s stated in our terms of service. We just need to state that as the worst case scenario. It does not mean we elect to enforce it harshly. This only happens if you are using a lot of resources while a node is also overloading immediately as a result of the abuse, and usually it has to be much worse.

Let me give you an example. If a node is already at a comfortable level and full/locked off, and then you abruptly begin a software installation/change in setup that locks up because your service does not have enough resources, and it’s detected by our system (usually means it’s been going on for at least 10 minutes) and then a system administrator locates you as being the source of the problem, he may immediately shut down the service after verifying it for another 10 minutes or so.

Since August 25th, 2017, approximately 2% of services have been affected by a shutdown, and the majority of those (>87%) first received a warning.

Chances are if you are concerned about our AUP, and actually read it, you are not our target demographic for abusers. Those are the people that did not read the AUP or specifically purchase the service to abuse it.

To continue addressing your concerns, I see you mentioned overselling, and weak specifications. We don’t intend to make customers maintain server performance; we just have a higher standard to make sure the servers are always in top shape for everyone. We do maintain the servers and have monitoring tools to ensure we never over-fill them, and on the rare occasion that we do we always offer a migration to a less congested node. Disk is never oversold on KVM virtualization; we do not utilize thin LVM or other tactics to oversell disk. This usually ends up being the bottleneck on most servers: we run out of disk space first. On average, memory is actually undersold on our servers. Our node “average” is probably around 5TB of usable disk space and about 220GB RAM. That’s about a 1GB RAM to 20GB disk ratio, but our SSD1G (1GB) plan comes with 25GB-35GB base disk depending on the operating system and goes all the way up to 50GB. Processing power does end up being “oversold” but not in the sense that it negatively affects users. However, you should not expect to be able to max out CPU 24×7 without the dedicated CPU option.

Your idea regarding throttling works great in theory but it has negative implications in the real world. We have done testing with throttling and in most cases it’s not good enough for us to feel comfortable with utilizing it.

Some notes on commenting on LowEndBox:

  • Do not use LowEndBox for support issues. Go to your hosting provider and issue a ticket there. Coming here saying "my VPS is down, what do I do?!" will only have your comments removed.
