Glitch Servers recently contacted us to share some special offers they’re running. I’d never heard of them before. Their web site told me they’ve got the basics covered, and understand their niche.
It’s a different world than typical VPS shops. Sure, you’re renting servers with CPU/disk/memory/network specs, but there are some basic table stakes:
- DDoS Protection is a must, because game servers attract attacks more than other spaces. Glitch Servers has you covered at 17 Tbps
- A lot of people who want to run a game server are not technical pros and aren’t going to learn the ins and outs of Linux or Windows sysadmin just to setup their favorite game for their friends. An easy-to-use control panel is a must.
- Windows licensing is required, otherwise some players just will have to look elsewhere.
Oh, and you also need great pricing! I’ve noticed the industry has been moving to a $5/month or £5/month basic price point for 2GB of RAM, and this is where Glitch Servers starts. So you’re getting solid pricing from a provider who specializes in game servers and really brings everything you need to the table (including unlimited bandwidth, btw).
We went a little deeper and asked their proprietor, Adam, some questions. Read on to learn a bit, and then there’s a special discount code that will get you 50% off the first month prices afterwards!
Q: Give us the Glitch Servers elevator pitch.
At Glitch Servers we believe in providing premium hosting solutions at reasonable prices. Primarily we are focused on VPS hosting for game server usage however that is only our primary focus, you are able to use your VPS for anything you wish. We provide our customers with support services through our website or through our commnunity Discord server. There you can also find community led help and assistance from other customers who may also be able to assist with issues related to services you are running on your VPS but may need help with.
Glitch Servers was started by a group of game server owners who were running their own community game servers. We found that finding server hosting with a personal touch was difficult and that it seemed to be dominated by corporate money making machines. At Glitch Servers we are happy to assist our customers where we can with the services they choose to run on their VPS, we also run competitions through our Discord server regularly where you could even win a free month of hosting. We are also happy to help our customers promote their game servers either through our Discord server or through our web hosting service which we offer for free to customers choosing our Advanced VPS package or above. This is a basic web hosting service when you can 1 click install WordPress to build a community gameserver website, for example.
Q: Where does the name Glitch Servers come from?
Our name Glitch Servers came about because of our background in hosting our own game servers and generally being long time gamers. Glitches is a term known by almost anyone who has played games for a while, while it can sometimes be known as problematic, we also thought that it can be known for its fun side, attempting Glitches in games which could yield positive outcomes like ammo and weapons. Generally, the idea was to pick a fun name which was something somewhat related to our field.
Q: You guys specialize in game servers. Which game servers do you see as most popular here towards the end of 2023?
While we do primarily market ourselves as VPS hosts for game servers it is of course possible for our customers to use their VPS for almost anything else they wish. Generally, we find our users run on the Windows 2022 OS. I think the main reason for that is that we encourage new users to get into the world of self-hosting their servers and they obviously find it the easiest way to do things. We try to help people where we can with their servers, whether its advice on building their websites, plugin/mod advice for their game server itself or helping with the setup of their Discord servers. I think this encourages new users to join us which is why for the most part they use Windows servers.
We find that a lot of our users host FiveM servers which is a roleplay adaptation of Rockstars Grand Theft Auto 5. This is enables server admins to build their own version of the GTAV world, it can include custom buildings, clothing, cars…almost everything. You can even build your own British themed server to make it feel like a UK version of GTA. This is where working with the Windows OS is popular, it enables server admins to develop their servers on the actual VPS to keep everything as ordered and slick as possible. Otherwise, you end up trying to work via an FTP platform which is difficult when working on multiple files at once.
As for the end of 2023 we are starting to see enquiries from people looking to start their own ARK: Survival Ascended servers now that this newest version of the ARK series has released. I think this will prove to be a popular use case as we move into the Winter period. Hosting your server on a VPS, we think, is a great option for those who wish to run other things on their server or run multiple instances on one machine. Running a test/development server to ensure scripts/plugins work properly before pushing to your live server is a popular use case.
Q: Any advice for those hosting game servers?
As for advice for potential future server admins, the best thing I can suggest is that they learn how to use the Git platform. We really encourage our customers to make use of Git repositories for their servers where possible to keep track of everything they do, easily keep up to date with the main forks coming from the developers and as a great backup source! Aside from this we always try to ensure our customers take security seriously, our network benefits from 17Tbps DDoS protection from Path.net to mitigate attacks against servers on our network but the basics like 2FA and Firewall rules shouldn’t be ignored.

9 year old CPU…
Hi Ben, you’ll be pleased to know that we have just added a i9-9900K range, we will also be adding Ryzen 9 machines & 10Gbps networking to our range in early 2024. It can be a little expensive to run new, low population servers on cutting edge hardware early on, we offer this Xeon range as its a great budget starting point for new servers :)
