Via this WHT offer. AutomatedVPS is VPS provider that specialized in Hyper-V and Windows 2003/2008 virtual servers. Due to the cost of license this kind of providers do not usually show up on LowEndBox.com, but they are now running a special on WHT with their new data center of unknown location (I am assuming to be in New York City as well), which has a package that fits my listing criteria. So for $5/month you get
- 512MB memory
- 50GB storage NO RAID
- 50GB/month data transfer
- CentOS 5
Quite a bit of restriction to combat fraud, which includes 1 special per client, telephone validation, cell/mobile phone validation with SMS, SMTP port blocked by default & needs explicit permission to unblock, you have to email to order. Any Linux distro other than CentOS might also need to provide URL to ISO for installation. Does not sound “automated” at all.
Interesting offer I guess — I would rather get 1/4 of memory but on instant activation, RAID10 drive, and Linux on Xen by a good provider. But I guess some of you here might be more adventurous 🙂

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Hi LEA
Look at the bottom of the promo, their cheapest package is $3 256MB.
And i ordered one to try freebsd.
He offer 100% refund if he can’t install freebsd.
He also give one snapshot, so we can restore that snapshot if we need to reinstall the OS.
Honestly, having to jump through a few hoops in the name of avoiding fraud is fine with me, so long as they particularly onerous. (Phone validation is fine. Sending a copy of photo ID, not so much so…) Then again, I can’t imagine the average script kiddie, MLM marketer, proxy weenie, or or rapidleech idiot has much use for Windows hosting… or a VPS with 50GB transfer per month, so I’m not sure how necessary it really is.
Just be aware that Hyper-V only officially supports RHEL and SuSE Enterprise. Any other Linux OS will be limited to a ‘legacy’ network adapter and shouldn’t be configured with more than one VCPU. Having said that, we run quite a few Ubuntu 9/10 test servers on Hyper-v and they seem to run fine.
Their website doesn’t have that good of a design.
