We will add 32 bit OS ASAP.

For speedtests we strongly recommend using
    wget –output-document=/dev/null http://speedtest.wdc01.softlayer.com/downloads/test500.zip
This one will start off slowly but will ramp up to 80-100M/s
Each server should get full Gbit throughput.

nLayer will be added to our mix Monday

We have an EV SSL which obviously means we are a legal company we also have DNB.

32bit is in your master solus panel, you have to deploy them to clients’ solus panel.
that’s why clients can’t see it, you may have.

      July 8, 2012 @ 10:28 pm | Reply
      • It’s right in the TOS.

Hostdime has a hard enough time keeping their network online from the 30k pps DDOS attacks that own them. The last thing they need is someone going on #trivia at efnet and getting a multi gbit UDP flood.

        • Why don’t you get your facts straight before coming in here.

          1. We run our own network so HD TOS doesn’t matter
          2. We can handle an attack with no problem.

They don’t allow IRC because a regular server getting a multiple GBIT flood would affect other servers.
We have a 10Gbit port to their core and we have transport down to MIA for nLayer and future Cogent.

Fyi, you shouldn’t bash a provider that’s around 100x bigger than you. (HD)

        • We allow anything that is legal.

          Thanks

          July 8, 2012 @ 11:03 pm | Reply
        • I can bash a provider I’ve used in the past if they’re garbage.

I don’t talk out of my ass, I talk from experience :) If hostdime had 60Gbit, then a 100,000 pps UDP flood wouldn’t rip their whole network offline like it has done many many times.

If you have 60Gbit you wouldn’t care about IRC because you have so much capacity that a couple gbit flood isn’t a big deal. 10Gbit floods are rare, trust me, I know because we work in the filtering business.

Good work on the ARIN’s, it’s always better to advertise that on a sales post than upstream providers IP’s

Besides, they’re sitting at just under 50,000 IP addresses. We’re sitting at 20k with another /19 on the way so they aren’t quite 100x bigger than us :)

        • I’m not going to speak for HostDime, but we’ve had multiple 15G attacks in the past and their network was fine

I laugh how you think IP addresses qualifies as size.
Why don’t you keep playing with your 90 BuyVM nodes while they play with thousands.
As for myself, we’re only in the hundreds.

If you’d like to discuss this further I’d prefer to take this off LEB.

I told you due to the amount of OS installations going on at once the disk i/o was going to be sub-par.
          It should be 100+ now.
And if it isn’t we will simply upgrade to 8 x 500GB SATA

You install the OS yourself with .isos provided
    You set partitioning

With Xen you click the OS you want to install and it will do the install for you.
    You cannot change partitioning.

That’s the big difference between the two.

that’s not a problem, centos needs more ram. You have small package.

If you using KVM with 128 RAM, you can’t install centos. This only OS that can install under 128 RAM is Debian.

If you need centos, then I think you need to ask the supplier to temp increase the ram to 256. It rans find at 128 RAM.

  29. The “Copper” offer (512MB RAM @ $4 USD/mo) looks really nice EXCEPT for the bandwidth/month … 250GB/mo???

I would have jumped on at least one (or even more of those) but when compared to (for example):

Prometeus: 512MB RAM, 3TB/mo bandwidth for $5.36 USD (after coupon code recently posted on LEB)
FlipperHost: 512MB RAM, 1500GB/mo bandwidth for $4.99 USD (recently posted on LEB)

Even though they cost more, to me, it is worth the $0.99/mo to $1.37/mo to get that much more bandwidth … .just in case.

    I’ll have to pass.

    2.1 Proprietary Rights of Client
As between Client and Host, Client Content shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Client, including, without limitation, all copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and any other proprietary rights. Except as provided in this Section 2.1, nothing in this Agreement shall be construed to grant Host any ownership right in, or license to, the Client Content provided by Client to Host. Client hereby grants to Host a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license for the Initial Term and any Renewal Term (as those terms are hereinafter defined) to edit, modify, adapt, translate, exhibit, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer of, reproduce, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, display, and otherwise use Client Content as necessary to render the Services to Client under this Agreement.

Why do you want client to grant you a “free” license of their content?

    8.2 Termination
Either Party may terminate this Agreement if a bankruptcy proceeding is instituted against the other Party which is acquiesced in and not dismissed within five days, or results in an adjudication of bankruptcy, or the other Party materially breaches any of its representations, warranties or obligations under this Agreement, and such breach is not cured within two days of receipt of notice specifying the breach, except that the cure period for failures of payment obligations shall be ten days. Host may terminate this Agreement at any time and for any reason by providing written notice of termination to Client and refunding a pro rata portion of fees paid to Client for Hosting Services not yet rendered on the date of termination.

Can you explain your cancellation policy? Your TOS doesn’t mention anything about service termination rights of client.

We may allow certain types of spam please contact us for further info.

    Can you elaborate this?

    9.5 Client Identification
Host may use the name of and identify Client as a Host client, in advertising, publicity, or similar materials distributed or displayed to prospective clients.

Hmm.. So after we sign up you can use our name and identity. Isn’t it invasion of Privacy?

Your offer is good. But there are too many things in your TOS that I don’t like.

    • Hello,

For 9.5 , we may use your name in a review if you provide us with a blurb of text.
Or lets say in a ticket you say “great service, I will recommend to all my friends” that may be used.

For the rest I went over with my team and we have changed a few things

Thank you for your concern regarding this

Still I find clause 8.2 in your TOS is unclear. Your TOS should clearly mention how a client can initiate cancellation of their service.

FreeBSD 9 works excellently (ZFS root) on 128-KVM. as long as you don’t pick optional packages (i didn’t need them) you won’t run into problems (in particular, I think it was ports causing it to throw up, but you can easily install that afterwards)

there are big problem with vps and bad support.

I brought a vps($4/month) since some days ago , and found I can not install any OS via vnc, after then I contact support for this ,but they always not fix out this ,just said in-process. it is over 4 days!!!

Now , I submit a refund and cancel account ticket , just waiting and watch how long they will handle my ticket .

The support very bad. I am happy I not pay one year for this hosting company .

If this is Xen, their centos does not work, use Debian, it works perfect with less memory.
if this is KVM, 128 won’t work for centos, install debian.

256 won’t work in KVM for Centos either, I think min is 384meg for the installer to run.

Same thing here. WinXP, Win2003, Win2008 ISO all missing NT loader. Only Win7 64-bit is bootable. But it is Home Premium ! Only found out after spent all the time installing it. And Home Premium does not suppor RDP! Thank you, but that’s not what I need.

Avante should really label the version instead of just Windows 2003, Windows 2008.

Now I have to wait to see how long they fix this.

    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 23.8349 s, 45.0 MB/s

Is Plastic VPS, why is a small I/O?

    root@us:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=tmp bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out

Just to warn everybody that VNC/API/Control panel access is broken since the past friday in KVM-2 at least due to lack of connectivity. :(

You will be stuck if you power down your VM because you won’t be able to re/boot it. :(

And also don’t get mad like me if can’t get ipv6 to work even having ipv6 addresses assigned since 2 weeks ago since ipv6 connectivity still has not been enabled in KVM-2. :(

I asked them to send an email with info about the issues to the users of the affected nodes so that they could avoid them.

Personally I’m quite happy with my VPS and having a free month for the past outage seems fair for me. Hope that they could fix all these issues soon since certainly make one feel a bit uneasy.

If you can reboot your VPS (not shutdown or you will be stuck!) and thru vnc not sure if you could do a pxe netinstall with HTTP boot (or from NFS or iSCSI target on another of your machines) with this setup but may be a bit tricky.

A traceroute from the VPS a few hours ago only reached the first hop. Right now VNC also died. :(

This time didn’t bother to fill a ticked but hope that will be fixed soon. Although I’m sure that a bit more information from them certainly would be appreciated by all their customers, being an email, a note in their issues page or even just a tweet.

Avante is another Hosting scam. They took your money to start up their business than they took their own free time time to solve the VPS problem. Easy way is they say “sorry” when the servers down. Anything not working they just say “sorry”. No commitment to solve the problem. Their “sorry” is cheap too.

Another favorite word they use is “waiting”. Their “waiting” has no date line. If request for refund they will just delay you and said “wait” which they hope after a while customer will forgot about the waiting.

For those who love to waste some small $$ to test their VPS, are encourage to signup with Avante. I guarantee Avante will love it. Especially their KVM VPS.

Checking from varied servers in different countries:

    http://avantehosting.net/ is down.

    https://vps.avantehosting.net:5656/ is very, very slow.

Server came up for a few days last week, then went down last night.

Fortunately my backups are good. May be time to migrate those sites.

So, when someone needs support, its better to email or post here? As the tickets get ignored then closed after 72 hours this would seem the case. Therefor whats the point in having a helpdesk, you should simply remove it and the links to it if you are ignoring it

I originally bought this July 9. Since then I have used it a few times, but most of the time it has been off. Before moving hosting, I am always careful to test it for a month, during which it magically turned off a few times. This was enough for me to consider it a write-off and use it as my playground. Over the last six months, as I have needed a KVM test machine, I have occasionally powered it on. It works but magically shuts itself down again, after a period of time.

Now I am trying to power it on and it stays offline.

I compare this to my $15 per year OpenVZ through BuyVM, which I think I turned on two years ago and has ran stable since.

    Stay away!

Disclaimer: i haven’t opened a ticket for my issues, and I don’t really care to. I can see others have opened tickets and in my mind they should be unnecessary, it should Just Work(tm).

    November 27, 2012 @ 9:00 pm | Reply
    • Agrees that things should just work. Hence, I don’t think KVM, Xen or OpenVZ is the problem. The provider needs to provide a reliable and stable service. This is the most important.

I decided to open a ticket on the 27th to see what would happen. Apparently VM is “being rebuilt” and I will receive an email once it is ready.

This has now been two days, I updated today to see what the hold-up is. Response, which was very fast, is “The rebuilding process is still going on”

This seems to be in-line with the other comments on this thread. I can’t see how rebuilding a 6gb image can take more than a few hours.

I find it funny how other providers can make a decent profit on the $0.03 per day of hosting. To me it shows incompetence on the part of avante, and I regret my decision to go with them.

I also find it laughable that it was “a few abusive customers” – if they were unable to determine which account it was, sign of incompetence.

I think the actual truth is, they thought they could make a quick buck, but when it turned out they had to provide service it became “too expensive” and they did away with this.

Oh well, a quick search of google for avante reveals lots of bad results, so I take it they won’t be around much longer.

Well, they are still around. They have changed to a more lucrative business model, pink hosting a/k/a “bulletproof” hosting. That means that they provide hosting services for people who send unsolicited commercial e-mail.

It would probably be better if your prediction had hit the mark, but I guess there are enough other spam hosting companies out there that the volume would not be much affected.

Not saying that couldn’t be true but seems hard to believe because:

      – Which kind of “abusers” can affect other users… for months?
      – And how it makes that tickets won’t be replied and “On Hold” or “In Progress” for weeks?
      – And how that affect to refund these users with their VPS still down when asked for it more than a month ago? Twice.

  150. Unfortunately, technical issues and abusers have effected a few of our low end VPS servers over the past few months. We apologize to those who have been affected. The amount of time and energy we spend on VPS tickets for little revenue is disproportionate to our other divisions which operate relatively trouble free. Consequently, we have made the business decision to discontinue this low end program but will offer enhanced VPS in the near future. Refunds have and will continue to be honoured. Attention Victims of Avante –

4 Months now I have paid for no server but I keep being promised it will be restored soon. This is nonsense and the service is a disgrace to keep people’s servers down this long and continue to send invoices and take peoples money. I have sent many tickets with responses of broken promises. I recommend anyone in the same position as me contact paypal and 2checkout.com tell them this guy is not legit and share your stories with them and some of the stories on this forumn. You should also contact your bank/credit card company and request a chargeback. If you did pay with Visa/MC/Discover/Amex and you request a charge back not only will you get a refund but it will cost Avante a $25 fee for each chargeback processed in dispute. This is about as close to justice as you can get for yourself but I encourage everyone to also request this guy loose his payment processing privileges with 2checkout.com so please make sure to speak with the fraud department and take the time to file a official complaint.

I am currently working with a 2checkout.com representative that is referring this forum url as welll as my complaints about your abuse to the risk and analyses department for their review. Good Luck with everyone else

Some people seems to have been refunded (not me, still very patiently waiting), and others wonder how they choose of whom to refunded.

Anyway it’s mean to want him to be charged $25 for a charge back even having had the VPS down for months and being brushed away with void words (as we all of us).

Also still waiting, seems to be the name of the game here.
The last ticket I opened has been ‘on hold’ for an awful long time now…

    • Shouldn’t everything be handled and tracked via ticket? Why email?

Totally agree, though tickets are ignored or left sitting “on hold” for months or simply just closed.
My guess is someone is trying to hide them from the financial department ie: Daddy

I have raised a Pay Pal dispute and claim now as my previous tickets and e-mails have gone unanswered by this company, such a shame that people just want our money and really have no honour about them.

  157. As stated many times, after 6 months, we have terminated our low end VPS. Technical issues along with attracting numerous abusers have caused us problems. We regret entering this troubled sector. We have and will continue to honour any refunds requested. DO NOT SENT A TICKET. Send me an email with paypal details AND service ID. We want to close all files.

Chris, I sent you tickets but you ignored them, why can’t you just have been honest with people, we would respect you a lot more if you had told us you had issues.

The only abuser I see in this whole mess is the host who pocketed his clients money, didn’t delivery the services provided, and is making his paying customers jump through hoops to recover their money.

Nice to see all the happy customers here sharing all their great times with us all. You should consider going public on the stock market……could be bigger then google with all the stellar tech expertise and don’t forget how awesome the customer support is. Look out fortune 500 here comes Chris and his $6 master scam tactics.

Chris if you don’t enjoy the sarcasm here’s a novel and honest idea: why not just refund everyone? You could send out a email 1st announcing your plan and apologies then follow through with the plan and give back the people’s money. Your client data and payment history is all right at your finger tips. This is what a good, honest and responsible person would do. The idea that you continue to invoice for service you know does not work is dishonest then to accept the money is borderline malicious fraud and then to further ignore tickets requesting refunds or a working server is beyond a reasonable doubt of theft. It’s guys like you that give this industry a bad name and make payment processors charge such high rates. Just go out of business and don’t come back if you can’t be honest. Please stop with the pathetic excuses and your childish rants of how this has been such a burden for you.

Hi, I’m renewing my HostDime registration for my domain name. Use the coupon code from the Saveplus website at the time and I will get a discount on it.
