The service does not look too good. After my purchase I have not succeeded in getting one single working VPN connection.

    Oh yes: at https://www.blueleafhosting.com/vpn-tunnels/:

“Due to an unexpected increase of VPN users we are experiencing issues with our DNS and IP ranges.

We are working around the clock to expand the ranges everyday. Please expect some connection issues as we preform the server maintenance.”

I strongly advise anybody not to make purchases until the above message has been removed, at least.

Additionally the service costs $1.50 per month, not $1.25 as advertised here. And the port really is 100 Mbps, not 1 Gbps.

Quite a lot wrong with the whole thing.

That’s my fault, I left off the promo code.

    • Hi MKV

Thank you for your concerns. Did you raise a ticket with customer support?

Regarding 1Gbps, it is indeed unlimited 100Mbps – that were a mistake on our end in the listing, apologies if you feel mislead.

      Cheers

The UK problem has at least been solved. The correspondence was great fun and the tech support had the proper sense of humour :)

Note that PPTP is considered broken and inherently insecure. Do not rely on it for security! It is obsolete. I’m not sure why this product is still being offered. It’s like doing Wi-Fi with WEP.

HI Sven, What do you mean by inherently insecure? If I am just using it to bypass country blocks is it still ok to use?

      • Greetings,

As long as you use MPPE, (128bit encryption) which we already force customers to use, you’ll be okay.

  15. The thing is Blue leaf hosting services seems really affordable with a VPN. I like the package. As VPNs have to be used so I like this stuff.

Careful of this company… yes they want to take your money but as soon as you complain they then say that they are “overhauling our VPN service” which obviously means they were not really ready to provide this service.

The server list is no where to be found apart from a random entry in their KB, there is no status page that actually works it just errors.

The servers seem to be online/offline when they feel like it and the France servers have never been online for me and when questioned about it they said “we are sorting France” which really tells me nothing, since that France is still offline…

There also seems to be an issue with all servers where it is limiting the outgoing concurrent connections, this makes loading big sites very slow and sometimes not loading at all.

The actual speed of the VPN is ok, it’s not fast enough to max my own connection but it’s enough to use.

Support seems quite uninformed and normally just pass on tickets to others, which then it takes a long time to get a reply to something simple.

  17. This offer were retracted a few months ago due to PPTP insecurities.

Customers were provided with alternative options should they open a ticket.
