Well I took the plunge and ordered one. I’m in the market for a vps, so I’m ordering a few to test out this month, and this seemed like a good idea. Just like the previous order, this one marked my order as high risk potential (Mind Max error). According to previous host, it has something to do with the VPN I use to protect myself from snoopers. I guess it’s on Mind Max’s list of high risk or something, I don’t know. Perhaps an outdated IP address database. Well I’ll update on how it goes

Update: They wanted me to disable my vpn and then place the order. I don’t like doing that as I’m afraid of unencrypted traffic (my job is sensitive). But I complied and disabled my vpn just to make the order. After I did so, I got the same message, and then they cancelled both my orders without notification. I guess they don’t want my business. On to the next VPS I guess.

Nevermind my previous comment, I spoke too soon. They allowed my order to go on through. I apologize for the hasty comments.

      • Hi, thanks for the interest. The reason is that MaxMind must confirm your originating IP address location to validate information for the order. Thanks for patience and we have tried our best to work with you in resolving the matter. All automated systems are not perfect. Support is here to help.

I’m glad things have been sorted.

I use our proxy at work for all http traffic. Company policy states we have to. There is not PTR record for it. How on earth will I be able to order?

      • Hi Simon, submit a sales ticket and we’ll manually review your situation for you.

Thanks for the interest. Having said that, you can always order outside of work also.

    @Bobby

Please provide documented proof (and not internet hearsay) that UGVPS is ripping people off. I currently have a VPS with them and their technical and sales/billing support is superior to many other VPS providers I have used in the past.

So to update everyone, I got up and running rather quickly. I haven’t gotten the setup email, but I was able to log in from the information on the panel. Server isn’t too fast. I downloaded a test file from another NY based datacenter and it was 10.2 MB/s. I think if both datacenters have a gigabit connection, the speed should be a bit faster, but maybe the file was too small, and the speed may have increased later on. Who knows. Just updating you guys

    • Thanks for being a customer. We acknowledge issues with NY. The best network performance you’ll see is in Texas, which is hosted with Internap and very high quality premium bandwidth. We are investigating and will address NY performance and optimize it in the future.

    • If you were testing CacheFly, I’m afraid results will vary due to congestion to their very own ports.

From CC, we have a single path to CacheFly, as do a lot of other people — so during busy hours, it probably does slow down a bit.

They also have a larger, 200MB test file that they do not advertise, named 200mb.test appropriately. Please give that one a go sometime when it’s not the peak hour in the US East (As CacheFly starts being actually used, their available bandwidth quite obviously goes down.)

Thank you for signing up, we’re glad to have you as a client.

      On behalf of CS, Paul.

Thankyou Paul for your reply. (btw, I’m the same guy commenting before, but I changed my email so my avatar changed). I was actually testing it out using webair, but I’ll do a retest during non-peak hours and report back. Thanks for having me :)

  7. Thanks Liam for posting this. Would just like to clarify that we’re not in anyway related to UGVPS. The website redesign is on our roadmap for this year.

Let us know if you have any further questions and thanks everyone for taking interest.

Cloudshards are excellent. Been with them for about 6 months now, running a busy-ish private ownCloud site for friends and family. Downloads/uploads are always quick and maintain a consistent speed, and support has always been polite, helpful and knowledge. I’d highly recommend their LA storage plans to anyone.

  14. Matt G.:

Packet loss for the past 4-5 days in the Dallas datacenter. I’ve had the service for the past 6 months though, with little downtime. Received an e-mail from Paul S. when I submitted a ticket stating that they have been having issues with DDoSes and their kernel stack.

I’ll hang tight for another day or two, but then I’ll have to start looking for another provider, unfortunately. :/

    June 28, 2013 @ 4:32 am | Reply
    • Matt,

Firstly, sorry for the issues. However, are you still seeing those?

We’ve had no more reports of the issue since last night, the DDoS and stack issues have all been dealt with too.

I’d like to request that you re-check now. If you still are having issues, I can be reached personally over paul.s@cloudshards.com and will look into it for you.

      Thanks!
