Community Roundup: December 2012

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a very happy new year! I’m so so so sorry for the delay with the Roundup, however with the limited time that I have had thus far, and with running the Q4 Poll, I was unable to post it until now. Here is a roundup of December’s news.

neon Neon Panel

An open source multilevel and multiuser website control panel which is based on nginx, mysql and php.

A few community members have launched Neon – a primarily PHP based control panel for website and server management. According to the project, once Neon has been installed on a server “it will allow an administrator to create and manage user accounts. Those user accounts will each be assigned a private file structure and will be able to manage their own domains, DNS, email, MySQL databases and backups”.

Unlike other panels on the market, such as cPanel, Neon will be “an open source control panel that is designed to make a profit and support Nginx by default”. The Neon team say that while there are other panels on the market, the problem with them are that they don’t support Nginx by default or are not maintained.

Neon aims to fix this. They’re building it for Debian (Linux) and are designing it “from the ground up to be fast and easy to use”. Neon are seeking funding via Kick Starter to “continue and speed up development”. They hope to release Neon via Github by Mid-2013. They also have a thread on LowEndTalk.

neon IperWeb Roundup

A collection of news from IperWeb.

It’s been an exciting month for Prometeus; for the second time, on the trot, they won our Top Providers poll! Prometeus has also sent in a lot of news regarding their sub-brand IperWeb. From now on, Iperweb will be selling services as IperWeb LTD (registered in England). IperWeb will also be giving free ftp backup accounts (10GB) to all the active Prometeus clients. They have also launched two new storage kvm plans, the first with 200 to 400 GB disk and the second with 400 to 800GB of disk.

Salvatore, from Prometeus, also informed us that their new IaaS cloud infrastructure will be started sometime this month and cloud services will be sold by IperWeb.

neon SimpleNode Adds KVM

SimpleNode are now offering KVM VPS services in Dallas, Texas.

As well as OpenVZ servers, SimpleNode are now offering KVM VPS servers in Dallas, Texas. They have introduced 3 new KVM plans which are located with Incero at the Corexchange datacenter – one of them was featured on here back in December. Edward, from SimpleNode, mentions that their kvm nodes are configured with “a E3 CPU, LSI BBU RAID Card and 8 Disks”. He even provided us with a photo of their node (3200), in case you wanted to a see what powers your typical lowendbox node.

neonCloud Shards launches storage plans

Cloud Shards launches storage plans and expands to Dallas, Texas.

Cloud Shards has several pieces of news for us to write about. They’ve recently launched OpenVZ plans in Buffalo, New York aimed at both the lowend and non-lowend market. But more recently they’ve launched a range of RAID60 storage servers, which we featured on LowEndBox a few weeks back, and have began to provide services from the Internap datacenter in Dallas, Texas. Harry, the owner, said that the reason they’ve got so much news is because “We… continue to improve our services and our product offerings as our client demands grow”.

neon BlueVM Expands

BlueVM has expanded their VPS range to Dallas, Texas .

BlueVM communications have expanded to Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, BlueVM are using the well renowned colocation and server provider Incero, who operate from the Corexchange datacenter. Ishaq, from BlueVM, noted that this latest location will enable BlueVM to offer “more choice to our customers”. BlueVM already operated from four datacenters in the United States (California, Atlanta, Illinois and Kansas) prior to this announcement.

neon SupremeBytes, LLC Expands

SupremeBytes, LLC has expanded their VPS service offerings to the state of New Jersey in the United States

SupremeBytes, LLC has expanded their VPS network to the state of New Jersey in the United States. They previously only offered VPS located with OVH in France. Damien, COO of SupremeBytes, said “We are now able to offer our OpenVZ VPS services to North American customers as well as our Western European clients”. According to his email, they chose this location because of its network connectivity and its “close proximity” to Québec and the Eastern United States.

He goes on to say that they hope to offer servers in Western Canada by the end of 2013 – I’m sure they will prove popular!

neon StormVZ Expands

StormVZ has opened four new locations in the UK and USA.

StormVZ are celebrating after opening four new locations. They will now be providing services located in: Maidenhead, UK; Los Angeles, California; Buffalo, New York and Chicago, Illinois. Patrick, owner of StormVZ, said that these locations will now cover West / Central & Eastern USA.

StormVZ have been featured on LowEndBox three times before, providing a variety of different servers in New Jersey, Dallas and Hampshire as well as the above locations.

neon WeLoveServers Expands

WeLoveServers.net has expanded it’s VPS services to Los Angeles.

In December, WeLoveServers.net expanded their VPS services to Los Angeles, California. Previously they only offered virtual servers in New York but due to the high demand for west coast servers, they decided to expand to Los Angeles. Servers in Los Angeles are with ColoCrossing at the QuadraNet datacenter which should provide Asian customers with a lower latency, and thus faster, vps network.

WeLoveServers now serves both the west coast and east coast market, and plan to expand into central USA in the near future.
