What’s new in this offer, compared to last time, is that Skylar notes “The feedback has been loud and clear. You love our prices, but you want better drive performance, and lower load issues associated with IO Wait. You asked, we answered!  All new nodes are provisioned with Dual X5660 CPU’s (Hex Core 2.80Ghz CPU’s), 96GB of Memory, and 12 (yes TWELVE) Western Digital RE4’s on a hardware raid card Dell H700. This will be our primary node setup moving forward. Existing client nodes will be upgraded over the next 3-6 months.” This improves their DiskIO from 70Mbps to a whopping 500Mbps, the serverbear benchmark confirms it.

That’s a Merry Christmas from Skylar!

  2. Using one 512Mb box from Crissic. And Skylar is just awesome in support. The machine is also running good. The IO sometime goes down, but I guess that’s because everyone is testing disk i/o during these offer times. Surely recommended.

Yeah we’ve noticed some fluctuations with the disk performance, but also quite a bit of benchmarking going on. For those interested, current plan is to finish upgrading all existing clients and then we’ll go back and add SSD caching to all of the new nodes as well!

    • SkylarM:

It’s a bit out-dated on that. Our list is more up-to-date as far as what activities are permitted. CPU is restricted basically at 100% of 1CPU core for 24/7 usage. IO we don’t really worry too much about now with the new hardware, as long as it remains within the remainder of the AUP (IE no torrenting)

It’ll just be a more direct shot. At present most South American traffic routes up to Ashburn then back over, PCCW would give us a more direct shot out via Atlanta. It’s about a 30-50MS gain from what I remember.

My friend used these services for merely a few days and got suspended for breaching their AUP. I completely agree with the above comment where the AUP restricts so much freedom and basically disallows a large number of common VPS uses. Minecraft? Come on. I was going to purchase with them, but I can’t now!

    December 27, 2013 @ 5:41 pm | Reply
    • SkylarM:

Our AUP is in place to make sure our services are running optimally without issue. Minecraft typically attracts unwanted network miss-use, typically in the form of DDoS. We have network monitoring tools and auto null via WANGUARD but it’s still not something we’d want our clients inconvenienced over so we can sell a few more VPS. Quality of service is more important than getting every bit of business possible.

    December 30, 2013 @ 9:03 am | Reply
  32. DN:

So I bought one of the 2GB RAM boxes for a year @ $60 (very nice price), but there’s a lot that appears to be missing:

    – Lack of any substantial knowledge base – only three articles; one of which has nothing in it. Ie. if you’re not an expert, they’re probably not for you.

    – Apparently Crissic doesn’t supply a name server – you either have to roll your own, or use a third party. If there is one, there’s no information or links on how to use it to resolve your domain to your VPS.

    – No customization on the OS images – ie. partitioning, etc.

I’m not unhappy with my purchase per se, but this is very much a bare-bones VPS – you get amazing resources, but that’s about it. Buyer beware.

    December 30, 2013 @ 11:38 am | Reply
    • SkylarM:

      1) Knowledge Base is something we’re working on. No solid ETA yet but we’d like to get one in
      2) We do have DNS, we just don’t publicly advertise it since we’re re-working it’s redundancy a bit
      3) I’m not aware of anyone that offers OpenVZ with partition customization. Our OS templates are pretty much standard.

We are fairly bare bones for sure :) We’ll be working to improve that. As always appreciate the feedback!

I got a 2 GB VPS with Crissic back when they had a deal here in August. Their support team has been top notch, quick, friendly, knowledgeable … Better than all but one VPS provider I’ve ever dealt with. They moved me onto a less busy node in a matter of hours while they were having a less-than-desirable experience with I/O on the one I was on. No major issues since (I/O has slowed since then to around 80, but I expect that to be mitigated soon), no actual downtime … I’m very happy with my VPS, regardless of the price.

(Seeing the offer here, though, suddenly clears up my questions to slow I/O last week.)

Heh downtime is never good regardless. I’m quite frustrated that it’s this of all things. FSCK takes it’s time on such a large array.

We sent out another email. It’s very hard to give any solid form of an estimate, but if these numbers look right (I hope they are wrong and it’ll be faster) we’re about halfway through the FSCK. Hopefully it’s further along than that, but that’s the only form of estimate we have now — lets just hope that’s worse case :)

    • SkylarM:

If you wish for a refund yes we can provide one. We sent out a brief email with details, and are still working on restoring access. Long story short a few abusive users caused the node to crash resulting in a forced disk verification, which is still presently running. As soon as service is restored an additional email will be sent out to affected clients with additional information.

The array is rather large, resulting in the disk checks taking longer than hoped. A full review of the situation will be conducted as soon as service is restored, so we can best determine the exact cause and how to prevent any future issues.

JAX03 is pretty full which is resulting in that test. We just got JAX04 online and will shuffle some things around. New orders are provisioning to JAX04, and we’ll fix the IO on JAX03 so it’s more managable.

I/O speed seems getting worst. You should try asking Skylar to move your box to the new JAX04 node he’s talking about. Just curious with the performance :)

We shuffled some clients off of JAX03 and are still monitoring the load and IO on it, we just ended up putting a few too many clients on it waiting for JAX04 to get shipped in (was delayed due to New Year). If you’d like you can drop us a ticket and we’ll move you over to JAX04. All orders are provisioned off of the new node now.

Very great potential but I had to bail.

    Good:
    – Very cheap competitively
    – Network speed was fast for me
    – Fast ticket replies
    – Almost instant refund when requested

    Bad:
    – Server went down for some period at some point, they’re whole website was down.
    – Had trouble with FUSE support, they enabled it, worked for a day and stopped working all of a sudden. While I might not know enough about openvz and it’s templates, when I filed a ticket asking about it, I was returned a We-Didnt-Touch-Anything-So-It-Must-Be-Problem-On-Your-Side response. This was also after me doing a wipe to see if that would resolve the issue (it didn’t). I’m an software engineer in a SaaS company and if I replied that to a customer expecting miracle, I’d be fired.

I brought the 1Gb Memory package with 3TB bandwidth on the Jax04 node. It’s only running my Teamspeak 32 slot server and so far so good. Its been a week since I have it up, 2 times we got disconnected while we are on the Teamspeak, but we were reconnected right away, must of been a network hiccup. But overall the server still up and stable and voice quality is very good. Its been a week and I used about 2.02Gb out of 3TB. Keep up the good work Crissic!
