CurlHost - $6 512MB Xen VPS

Update Oct 2011 — CurlHost.com stopped responding to connection on 4 September 2011, and from the last few comments it looks like Prakash has done a runner. Fail.

CurlHost Via this WHT offer. CurlHost has just released their Xen VPS nodes and is now offering “unbelievable offers” for their Xen PV VPS, starting from $4/month for 256MB memory, 20GB disk and 250GB/month data transfer. Add 2 bucks more at $6/month will get double of everything —

  • 512MB memory/512MB swap
  • 40GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • Xen/SolusVM

Available in both Scranton PA (with HostNoc but VolumeDrive’s ARIN) or Seattle WA (Spectrum Network). Direct sign up link here. Interestingly on their website their Xen packages were intended to be at Kansas City and Dallas. Since last time they have moved their website from Dallas to Scranton, but are still using non-redundant NS. WHOIS still remains privacy guarded. Great offer — but it certainly needs more time to prove whether it’s trustworthy.

    @CurlHost
    Is Xen HVM available? What images do you have? Do you support Windows?

    October 28, 2010 @ 11:10 am | Reply
    • CurlHost:

      Yes we do Xen HVM as well. We do have windows available alongwith a number of linux distros. If you’d like a specific os which isn’t available in our servers we can add it for you.

    This place kind of scares me.
    While I understand how hard a startup is, stuff like missing pages on their main site and a self signed certificate for their SolusVM Master is quite inexcusable.

    For someone to just “screw around” it wouldn’t be bad, but I would seriously question putting anything of importance on here.

    Maybe in time when they “tidy up”, but not now.

    We signed up for a test VPS and found that the email from Curlhost was going into Google spam. Check your spam if you did not get a confirmation email from them.

    There does seem to be simething wrong with their 64bit distros. We tried all of them and got the same error from each. All the 32bit distros work fine. Actually, for a lot of web uses, 32bit can be preferable as it uses quite a bit less memory.

    My advice to anyone that gets a VPS at these prices is to realize that you are expected to do some admin work yourself. If you can’t login to your server, try another distro and re-install that instead of your original distro. Maybe you will discover something.

    • The issue is with the architecture most VPS nodes are setup on. We’ll have the 64bit distros up soon.

    Hi! I got a server here, and is working GREAT. I hope this will last.

    There isn’t a RAM upgrade or a 768MB plan? =P Because sometimes I need a little bit more for my services…

    Thanks!

    Further testing has shown us that only the 32 bit version of Ubuntu is working properly right now. The other 32 bit version of things boot fine, but they are running the kernel from Dom0 – not the DomU kernel.

    We tried all the distro images they have and the 64bit images fail to to completely boot and all but the 32 bit Ubuntu distro are not running the DomU kernel.

    • You can always request the vps to be setup to boot from domU instead of dom0. Currently all Ubuntu images boot tbe domU kernel.

  19. We all are tring their service, right now the 64bit os, is not working very well, and they reply ticket so slow, but after they open the vps, so far so good, I suggest you wait, until any great review here, and this is the first month, so just wait.

  20. Just a little clarification:
    1. The setup is not instant. We did never advertised the same as well. However, most of the vps were setup within 1-3 hours.
    2. 64bit is being worked upon. We’ll have the 64bit issue sorted in a week or so.
    3. Our Seattle nodes are full now and a couple of VPS are available at Scranton node. The links would be disabled automatically as soon as we’re out. :)

    I’ve been inquiring a bit on a few different VPS services and this one is another one I’d like to gather some info on ;0. I tried to go to your webpage to check the status of Xen VPSs and everytime I go to your billing page to look into purchasing one, the Xen VPSs seem to be all out of stock. So my first question is how long until you think you’ll have more stock there?

    Secondly on your main page (and the billing page) I am unable to see what type of specs each of your Xen VPSs have. I know from here it is $6.00~ for 512 MB, but on the Xen purchase page I only see the following:

    XM2 = 1 Month Price – $5.00 USD
    XM3 = 1 Month Price – $7.95 USD
    XM4 = 1 Month Price – $13.95 USD

    I am curious to know what the specs of those three are or if there’s a link that I can’t seem to find where I can check myself.

    Thanks =)
