LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Dead Pool April 2011 - 321Hosted, GarmanOnline, VPSRocket, etc

We had a little bit of rest in March with only one dead provider. However in April it seems the Hades of dead providers have came back to full strength. Let’s get the listing started.

321Hosted 321 Hosted

Current Status: Domain not resolving

321Hosted was first listed here in November 2010 offering $4.75/month 384MB OpenVZ VPS in Dallas, but their domain as well as all their servers went off line on 14 April. More information on WHT, and apparently they have been reselling HostRail, tried to sell the clients, and turned out to be a fraud. Sorry to hear that Justin from HostPolar was defrauded. It appears that his other website, AFreeWebHost.com is still online. We’ll keep an eye on your future venture, Mike :)

BoltHub BoltHub

Current Status: No longer selling VPS

BoltHub‘s offer was posted on LowEndBox in March 2011, offering 768MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany for $6/month. Started by a Singaporean minor who wanted to run this service for 2 years. Too bad it folds after 2 weeks. All VPS clients have been transferred to MyResellerHost, whose website has also been going up and down like a yoyo these days. BoltHub.net is now a ghost-town forum with less than 100 posts. Another page of adventure for the young Soon Keat?

GarmanOnline GarmanOnline

Current Status: No longer selling VPS

Garman Online — R.I.P. Patrick first emailed me their OpenVZ VPS offer in July 2010, had a dedicated server fiasco in November last year, resurrected to offer KVM VPS, but then “a series of unfortunate event”. See comments in this blog post. To this day I still have no idea what actually happened.

GarmanOnline.com is now back online but is no longer offering VPS hosting. Patrick is still a valuable member of LowEndTalk community (although I’m not sure whether he’ll be back though). A man with charisma and possibly good technical skill. But sometimes to succeed you also need business sense + luck.

HostLadder HostLadder

Current Status: No longer selling VPS

HostLadder first stated here with $6.49/month OpenVZ VPS in Kansas City, with 256MB memory and 100GB/month data. Their focus seems to be on MineCraft, and I wasn’t sure whether they were serious about general VPS hosting. It happens that Travis, the old owner, sold HostLadder a month after and then started EdgeVPS.

UuberHost UuberHost

Current Status: Redirect to HostD8.com

It appears the UK-based UuberHost is now redirecting to HostD8.com. UuberHost was first listed in October 2010, offering $5 384MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany. Looks like their “team of dedicated individuals” have decided to move on, to apparently a new provider “WebHostSaloon.com” from WHT user’s signature, although that one is still not online. The “good review” has now moved all the sites to a BurstNet box in LA.

HostD8 is US based, however there’s no low end plans so won’t be considered here.

VPSRocket VPSRocket

Current Status: Default cPanel Page

I wasn’t too optimistic when I first posted about VPSRocket back in March this year. $4.10 128MB OpenVZ VPS wasn’t that cheap, and Scranton is already populated with other offers. Nevertheless, Mark made a promise with money back guarantee. But I guess that doesn’t really matter now, as the website has been showing default cPanel parked page since 11 April. You can still find Mark at volt-host.com, but that offers only game servers not VPS.

That’s it for this month, although I am sure there are some that I have missed. There are a few that I have been tracking but never posted their offers on LowEndBox. Until next month…

Nordicvps should be in the list, even though their site is still up, he’s scamming clients saying the server was crashed, etc. In fact, it’s been almost 3 weeks since
he said the server was crashed and there is no plan, no email, no-nothing.
He’s waiting for all the clients($15/yr clients) to go away, that’s a fact.

    • Well John, we cannot call them DEAD. But I do agree that we should have a AlmostDead along with DeadPool too where we can list providers having such serious issues including non-existent support etc as in the case of NordicVPS (and I am sure there are plenty more)

This would help people decide which company to go with and LEB can become an even greater place to find the premium-lowendbox :D

      • LEA has listed almost dead providers in the past….

I’m reading the 321hosted thread and find this to be very interesting:

You can make $100 in a day so its not a major loss.

I don’t know about the rest of you but $100 is a pretty big chunk of change for me. May not be on the income statement but I know we’ve had months where we’ve bought hardware and that’s what we had for a profit at the end of the month.

I would also like to see Patrick return but I don;t think he would get that warm of a welcome when and if he does.

[humour]And what about that Fran guy? I heard he took a runner. Vacation? Sure it is. We all know us providers don;t get vacations in this business. Probably in Vegas or somewhere like that.[/humour]

        ;)

    • He stopped trolling our threads after I lashed out at him on here for his terrible treatment of his clients. He was actually polite/supportive of ‘the pony’ in the last few replies he did before he stopped coming to WHT.

He has stated in the past that the $3.50/m deals were also a major loss for them. I’ve yet to ask egihosting what happened to Nordics Fremont stuff, though I know I won’t get a story outta that one.

I really don’t know why he didn’t do the math on the ‘BuyVMish’ plans before he rolled them. Did he think we just pulled some plan setups outta our butts and hoped for the best?

On another note, vforVPS’ site is down with reports of it being down for a day+ (would have to check lowendwiki to confirm).

      • LOL @ “BuyVMish” …. nice term :D

Something tells me NordicVPS will be in the deadpool this month or the next, they have still not replied to customers. My ticket got a reply saying that they cannot offer me that VPS at that price and would need to double/quadruple it. I replied back and got nothing, so much for the support.

      • I know I can’t even for $3.50 on shared hosting, even with going up to 350 clients on a box.

I wonder how many providers don’t do the math before offering such a price. Or assume that they’ll get 100% filled with smiling clients who never need support and stay around for years or upgrade to something higher.

  4. We are still here – we are not scamming any or trying to troll anyone unlike some here who spend most of their time actively trying to defame competitors.

People do spread rumors about why we have the downtime in Fremont and I will be very surprised if any DC shares information about their customers with strangers.

The node crashed due disks failure — its corrupt and the FSCK was not able recover the partitions.

All customers on the crashed node in Fremont will get one month of free service — we hope to have the new server up in few days.

    • Sean,

Doesn’t feel too great when someone follows/trolls your threads eh? Remember it next time you try to pick a fight with us on WHT :) We aren’t your competition nor competition to most on this here blog. LowEndAdmin has been very good to us over the past year but at this point we’re able to stand on our own two legs. Instead of constantly trying to push sales threads here we do our best to take part in the LET/etc communities.

Your FMT stuff has been offline for weeks now. You’ve stated on here and in many other places that you can’t get the data back. So be it, reinstall & get people rolling again! Scott & his team are skilled workers and get things done quickly so I really don’t see a reason why the box would take this long to get into working order.

Do they colocate in FMT? Because otherwise I don’t understand this part about replacing some part of a server which takes a weeks and weeks. It’s not that this longer downtime surprise me witn nordicVPS (it’s their ordinary practise) but still… how long does it takes to replace any part of a server by any semi-decent company. Day? Two?

      May 9, 2011 @ 5:30 am | Reply
      • When I said I wouldn’t run away with everyone’s money I was serious — first time things went down what did I do? Refunded people. Second time when it was down for good what did I do? REFUND PEOPLE. Yet I get a few emails a day of people requesting refunds… who have already received them?

Anyone who paid via PayPal (long ago… for long term payments) there are delays due to some issues where PayPal won’t allow me to use PayPal. I’m trying to figure out another way to get refunds sent. This issue along with why everything went down without any notice (sorry about that)… is all tied together, however I’m not going to post the reasons why because they pertain to certain individuals who’s ultimate goal was essentially to bring everything down because… well… I pissed them off and you know how that goes.

I’m sorry to hear that one bad apple spoiled the bunch but if you had made some sort of announcement I am sure you could have gotten some help. At the time I had a large chunk of money and hardware to invest (either as myself or under my LLC) and I have some data center and hosting company contacts that might have been able to help you out.

        • Glad to hear there is some support around here still. I have other “ventures” I guess you would call them in the works but they are things that don’t fit in at LEB. I’ll probably poke my head in every now and then on LEB/LET but not as often as before.

PS. Much more than one bad apple ;) Not naming names though and going to leave it at that.

NordicVPS should be dead soon! They were regularly crashed their servers as toys. At last, they took down my adsense websites for more than two weeks, lost all my latest posts on it….

He’s waiting for all the clients($15/yr clients) to go away, that’s a fact.<—- Agree. They kept saying to provide the new VPS replacement but there just no more shit until I said "I'm leaving" – no cash back, no compensate, all data loss… rather spamming with unnecessary excuse. No action, talk only.

    May 9, 2011 @ 3:13 am | Reply
    • Well thats why I said in an earlier blog post that one of the major reasons of NordicVPS suddenly doing from the Good providers to the worst providers is the fact that they started their BuyVMish packages.

I had been with them since mid-2010 and support was decent until they planned for the yearly packages :(
I still hope they manage to get back on their feet really quickly else they would end up in the dead-pool soon.

A quick update: We will get the server back online this week.

We will try install a proper kernel on the node, that will support exotic features like TUN/PPTP/GRE/SIT/IPIP tunnels :)

Along with this hardware replacement we will also be ordering a couple of new servers which will enable us to provide better performance.

If you like to pre-order a OVZ512 package with following specs — submit at ticket to sales with subject “Pre-order”

          OVZ512 – Fremont, USA

          512 MB RAM / 1024 MB BURST

          15 GB HDD (RAID10)

          1000 GB B/W

          1 x IPv4

          8 x IPv6

          $5.95/mo – recurring.

          Best regards

  14. Hi everyone,

We’re just wondering whether there are any ex-321Hosted clients here that had VPS’s from 321Hosted before he closed down?

By the way while we were dealing with Mike from 321Hosted he never looked like fraud, he always paid on time the Invoices so i am bit surprised by what happened to Justin from HostPolar. My opinion is based from his account here at HostRail, i would like to clear that we are in no way affiliated with Mike nor 321Hosted.
Also i don’t really know the terms agreed to but Mike had 9 active VPS Services with us before he closed so there were some active clients.

      • For VPS’s 321Hosted was using HostRail. For the other Shared Packages that 321Hosted was offering they were using another provider.
