LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
I’ve got one myself. I place my order and then go to bed. Next morning, I didn’t find my VPS details. I send a PM on WHT and they say there was a “hiccup” so they manually set up my VPS.
100mb test:
Server load is good:
Seattle has a great connection speed to China. And I hope they don’t oversell to much.
Just bought Sprinkle Plan and got instant setup. Interesting thing is i am not able to logout of their WHMCS panel. Still searching for logout button. I want to contact my eyecare soon :)
Heh that is weird, I never noticed that logout is missing from WHMCS, I will go ahead an add that link in.
Alright now you should be able to logout. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
@ Matthew
Thanks it worked.
I am just using the “Sprinkle” package, it works fine.
vps location is not in seattle!!
I am guessing you looked up the IPs – they were re-assigned to us so the location listed on the IPs might not be up to date just yet.
By trace routing the IPs (for example: 174.34.144.154 ), you will be able to know that it is Seattle, WA based on the hops:
You may also stop by our Seattle Datacenter at any time to confirm that we have our servers there :)
your IP block is “64.120.5.246”
not 174.34.144.154
64.120.5.246 is also in Seattle
what is the “ubiquityservers.com” mean?
it means hostmist using the service of ubiquityservers?
@guest
174.34.144.154 is the main IP of that server.
Yes we are using Ubiquity Servers for our dedicated servers.
Got one of these babies. So far so good. Seems to have decent ping from US, but not from Europe (understandable as they are on the West Coast):
http://www.pingbrigade.com/result/142d6fc620f6a181af87c9632b9b685ebb5ad430#united-states
/proc/cpuinfo says it has 4 CPU’s: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz
Setup was not instant, but speedy. It looks like their SolusVM control panel could use a little love: no indication of where the servers are, setting the host name is quirky.
But for the price, certainly worth a try.
Forgot to mention that one plus I found is that they have 32bit Ubuntu 10.04 available which is not common.
Do you have HostInaBox Template?
Just tried to use Sprinkle and it says the code is not valid? Are they all used up?
@Travis, the coupon code is 2years. @John – Yes we have Host in a Box available, simply reinstall your VPS through the VPS panel and select Host in a Box.
what happen to you on May.
data lost? or network outage? or DDOS?
I think they had some outage with their website and they “were not in a hurry” to put the site back so it was having a temporary page for an extend amount of time.
@LowEndAdmin
We are working with pressure on an high availability website with instant failover. I don’t think this will happen again once we completed the setup.
@Richard
how about customer’s vps data?
are the data safe? I mean the VPS
not the official web page.
@guest
We have 4 HDDs with dual Hardware RAID 1 running in our VPS nodes. It’s definitely safer then running RAID 10. Even if 2 HDDs fail, the server would still be running and as an extra security we still have nightly R1Soft backups running backing up all your data.
We are currently out of stock, we are still waiting for additional IPs. Then we will be able to offer VPS again.
@guest No VPS services were affected in any way by the May incident. Host Mist’s site was the only thing that went down and it appeared on the temp page because DNS propagation takes time to go between servers. Now though, I have a DNS cluster so that no longer will happen.
Stock will be updated once we get the new block of IPs in.
will you oversell the vps,
since you are continue to promotion
@hola
Rest assureds that we still have plenty of free ressources left on that node. If it requires an upgrade we still have plenty of room for more.
By the way we do have all VPS in stock again.
it’s cool!!
btw, can I choose the IP which I want
in your IP block list
Submit a ticket after order and we will list a range of IPs for you to pick and we will change it.
It appears that the code is no longer valid…
The Promotion was limited to 2 weeks. We will have another promotion soon.
Can’t wait. 80MB were pretty good for a low-end box.
