Kisara - $7 Monthly 256MB Unmetered Bandwidth Xen in Roubaix, France

Gary, from Kisara, has sent in this offer based on the Xen XCP platform. You can get 25% off the first billing cycle (be it one month, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual) with the coupon code 25PCTLEB for any of their products.

VPS Package 1

  • 256MB RAM
  • 1 vCPU Core
  • 10GB Diskspace
  • Unmetered Bandwidth
  • 1Gbit Port Speed
  • Xen/SolusVM
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • $7/Month | Order

Kisara are a registered LLC company in the US state of Maryland. Whilst their vps website was registered in 2012, they have been operating under a similar brand since July of 2011. They’ve had vps customers through word of mouth since 2012, but only now they are now widening their scope and expanding to the greater public. The unmetered bandwidth is certainly very cool. I wonder though how much of the 1Gbit port you can use. Gary does mention that they do have dedicated bandwidth SLAs with OVH for their servers. Their SuperMicro servers are running the Xeon E5-1620 3.6GHz CPU and have 64GB ram.

Kisara accept payments via Paypal and Amazon payments. Any upgrades to services are not processed on weekends, only automatic provisioning of the base packages is done on weekends (though tech support is still available). They support setting RDNS, via support ticket for now. I’ve had a quick look at their Terms and it basically says that nothing illegal is allowed, they don’t restrict software/p2p/irc and they do respond to abuse complaints. You can view their full Terms of Service here.

    “dedicated bandwidth SLAs with OVH”

    Sure…

In OVH the additional bandwith is MUCH more expensive than renting servers that have that bandwith and tunneling.

” I wonder though how much of the 1Gbit port you can use.”

EG 64G servers include 1 Gbps OVH-to-OVH connections and 1 Gbps incoming connections. The default outgoing connection however is only 200 Mbps. You can purchase additional outgoing bandwidth from OVH at the rate of 100 Mbps = + €250.00 /month. So in order to offer a 1 Gbps outgoing connection they would have to be paying OVH an additional €2000.00 /month per server. :)

    • Just a heads up – they upped it to 500mbit included with the basic lines of servers. :)

I am pretty sure it is one of those if you go over 5TB you’ll get capped at 10mbps thingy…

    • Tarball:

That’s only on Kimsufi servers. Regular OVH servers have no limits.

My bad, you are correct, it is 250mbps guaranteed and to guarantee 1Gbit you are looking at (http://www.ovh.ie/dedicated_servers/eg_64g.xml):

        130 (for server) + 250 (per 100mbit) * 7.5, almost equal to 2000 bucks per month.

So they will need to have close to 300 VPS on one node to break even.

Additionally, if you go over the limit on those types of services, additional TB blocks can be bought for 4.99 eur each, iirc. Also, incoming is unmetered on those types of plans too, so it does streatch very far if you go for any of their offerings that do that.

Sure, if you have one of the 2013 servers – the prior ones all had no restrictions like that.

  8. Looks very promising. TOS etc seem liberal regarding P2P, torrents etc.

Unfortunately, for $7, I expect more disk space and RAM. I will be monitoring their future listings with interest.

    TOS link is here: http://www.kisaravps.com/terms.html
It’s long and legalistic, with parts appearing copied from Linode.

I think a Kimsufi MKS2G makes more sense. Costs just a few dollars more and is a dedi with 500GB of disk space and OVH’s simpler TOS.

I apologize for your experience. The attack was rather major and was coming from and directed at a former client with multiple instances. This was the first major incident in about a year…. our email system was a affected by the attacks as well hence delayed response. I greatly apologize for the resulting outage and am going to be issuing everyone a $2 credit per instance due to the outage. This was a poor reflection on our service and I hope to make up for it on the future.
