If the code LEB-USA-1GB is right, then Its Xen as per: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/5544/lfcvps-1gb-xenpv-vps-for-6.50month

Also, since I host with them (happy customer), I remember they don’t offer OpenVZ – so that’s simple :).

This is a really nice vps offer, networking outside of US could be better but the price tag makes it a best buy.
    I/O speed : 178 MB/s
I think things will improve after the first round of benchmarkers :)

  11. Where is the test IP really located?

    October 26, 2012 @ 6:02 pm | Reply
    • It’s really located in Denver. That IP address is registered to us though as we’re a Canadian company hence the WHOIS data, however a traceroute will show you that it is indeed in Denver.

      October 26, 2012 @ 6:24 pm | Reply
      • All VPS’s provisioned in Denver do have US registered IP addresses by default, by the way.

Is that $6.50 USD (or Canadian? since they are “registered company in Canada”)

@ admins, it would be helpful if you indicated USD or Can when posting offers in $.

    October 27, 2012 @ 9:07 am | Reply
    • I will pass your feedback on however is it really worth it? $6.50 US dollars = $6.49 Canadian dollars

      October 27, 2012 @ 10:31 am | Reply
    • USD — the vast majority of our clients are billed in USD and it didn’t make a lot of sense to also bill in Canadian.

    • We’re currently using E5-2620s which are 2Ghz, CPU usage is almost nil on the nodes. We do not have an SLA; however, I think we’ve had a great track record thus far — it’s hard to offer a meaningful SLA with such low prices.

  21. The LFCVPS server that I acquired, thanks to this promo, is possibly the best VPS I’ve ever been on. The discounted price is insanely good, even after paying tax (Canadian=pay taxes, obviously).

The fastest VPS out of any that I’ve used and I currently have an EDIS, ProviderService, ThrustVPS, InceptionHosting and I compared it to a Linode, plus another 20 companies that are even lower quality than the ones named. Even a dedicated server didn’t match up to this LFCVPS server.

The non-discounted prices are high, definitely, but IMO would be worth paying considering the quality of the server. No downtime so far (4 days and counting) and it’s insanely fast.

I can only hope the ride stays this good, because I’m about to order another server or two right now. Hopefully I can use this promo more than once on the same account (seems I should be able to according to above comments).

    October 30, 2012 @ 6:59 pm | Reply
    • Thank you very much for the positive comments Maki. We’re pretty proud of the hardware we run this service on – we’ve been building rock solid hardware for our shared hosting service for years to run Xen on, so it was a natural fit to continue building them the same way for LFCVPS. As a point of reference for uptime, our first node currently has an uptime of 140 days and likely would have been much higher if not for a critical Xen bug a few months back that we needed to patch. I’m confident that you’ll also be able to see those kinds of uptime numbers as well.

      October 31, 2012 @ 5:39 pm | Reply
      • It’s good to hear that your only downtime was caused by the Xen bug that everyone had to deal with.

By the way, how long will this deal be available and how many can I add to my account?

        • I don’t think we have an expiry date just yet on this promo. As of this moment we have no limits in place on the amount of these you could order.

Currently have a 2GB OpenVZ plan with ChicagoVPS, but it’s sometimes a bit slow. Ordered one of these plans and am looking forward to trying it out. So far it seems quite zippy, which to me is more useful than an extra GB of RAM.

  23. I am going to go ahead and not recommend these guys. I am currently locked in for one year and am very much so regretting my choice. My VPS has consistently high ping times during after dinner hours. It seems like they over sell VPS’s because it is fine during the day, but as soon as it gets dark, my VPS takes forever typing into SSH.

    • Hey Jacob, that’s very strange and isn’t an issue we’ve been notified about by other clients. If you want to open up a ticket with some traceroutes during both bad and good times, I can look into it further for you.

      November 2, 2012 @ 1:38 pm | Reply
      • As I understand there is no way to over sell xen vps. But may be I’m wrong.

        November 3, 2012 @ 6:57 am | Reply
        • Sounds like network issue rather than overselling or slowness. I’m sure Jeff will work it out.

          November 3, 2012 @ 7:01 am | Reply
        • Xen can be oversold — memory and disk are the hardest but CPU/bandwidth are easy to oversell.

  36. @Iann_LFCVPS – I’m considering picking up another LFCVPS box. Would like to move several production sites over to one of these VPSes but wondering how difficult is it to get additional IPs? Right now, a couple of my sites are on shared hosting on their own dedicated IPs. Don’t really want to buy several VPSes *just* to get dedicated IPs for these sites.

    • You can add IPv4 addresses as an addon to your service and we generally just ask that there is a valid justification for it as the amount of available addresses is dwindling.

This is THE BEST VPS for someone who loves to test things out or tinker with settings. It’s like it was MADE for sandboxing. Gotta say I am in love with the backup feature this host provides. I can play around with anything and with the flip of a switch, rollback to a previous image! I’ve tried other VPS host and not too many offer this simple yet powerful feature surprisingly.

So far no downtime and I am amazed at the speed of this thing. The only difficulty I have right now is coming up with what type of website/service I want to create with it :)

Keep it up! I may just buy more for the hell of it xD

  40. Jeff and Iann have a very sturdy and powerful set of boxes which allowed me to max out the bandwidth usage from a project which I am member of.
The only downside I can possibly think of is that they have their own network ( which is kind of premium compared with bare FDC@Denver and this makes it “”more expensive”” than you could expect).
Please note I made use of double quotes intending that means that it is not really expensive but more than FDC.

    Thanks

    Juan

Loosefoot is horrible. You must not be actually using for anything but play time.
In the last 12 months we have seen 2 server moves, 1 server crash, 15+ days of downtime.
That computes to 1,000’s of percentage points worse than industry standard.
Our latest saga involves 20-25 second response times.
Iann says “it is our fault”.
Yet we can run the same program, with no changes, over during different times of the day and get 15 second variations in response times.
    buyer beware
