LiquidHost - $7/Month 2GB OpenVZ in Seattle and Los Angeles

LiquidHost have been featured four times before, and were founded in 2011 by Alex who is also very active at LowEndTalk. Aside from the pretty new website design, they have launched a new DDoS protected filtered IP service with up to 10Gbit protection for an additional $5 per month or $36 per year. This is however still in the beta stages, so it’s best to submit a ticket before ordering to check for stock. If you’re a current customer, please do leave a review in the comments.

What the CPU speed (cpu_mhz) is on these?

    March 17, 2013 @ 7:29 pm | Reply
    • Hey Bobo,

It really depends on what node you are provisioned on, our LA nodes are E3-1240’s at 3.40GHz (3392.407) and so are some of our Seattle nodes, another one is at 2.40GHz (2400.360).

Do let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. :-)

  4. Hello,

    First, thanks for the listing!

Second – as Humza already answered, most our nodes are on E3 1240 / 1270 ivy bridge, however we have a couple of dual quad xeons at 2.4GhZ. I am certain that the clock speed would be enough for pretty much any use ;)

    • Hey Shawn,

All of the plans in this offer contain access to 4 vCPU cores.

As for the contact page, I that will be fixed in due course, along with a WHMCS intergration. In the meantime, submitting a ticket is the best way to get in contact with us.

Do let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. ;-)

It is clearly stated in our Terms of Service that we do not provide refunds, however we may do so on a case to case basis, and in this case we have allowed a refund. Please refer to your ticket. :-)

      • john:

doesn’t that imply that its only up to 1gbit protection then?

        March 23, 2013 @ 3:35 am | Reply
        • Hey John,

No that does not imply that the protection is only up to 1Gbit, because our ordinary nodes are not under the DDoS protection that our DDoS proection package is under. We only provide DDoS protection in Seattle and we provide an additional filtered IP address for DDoS proction (while the main IP is not protected). Our filtered addresses are capable of handling up to 10Gbit.

I hope that clears some of your concerns, do let us know if you have any futher questions etc. :-)

The description of service is not clear. I ordered before I realized that this is a Linux VPS. My fault…

I did not use this VPS. So I asked for refund but it seems that Alexander Barakov wanted to take my money and then cancel it at the end of billing term.

    Would you please clarify Alexander?

      • Hey Jeremiah,

I am glad we are getting it sorted for you. We will process your refund once we recieve the 2CO order ID (in the 2CO e-mail) as Alex mentioned to you in the ticket. :-)

Do let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you.

I purchased 2 servers, and only one of them works. I also accidentally paid for the same thing twice. Can you please refund one of the payments, and fix the other server..? The IP of the server that doesn’t work and order numbers are in the several emails that I have sent but received no response…

    • Hey Brandon,

I’ve taken a look at your VPS’s, and I don’t see anything wrong with either of them. If possible, can you log a ticket with us so we can look into your servers properly and let us know the problem? Also, if you would like a refund, please include the 2CO order number in the ticket (it’s in a confirmation e-mail from 2CO after you make the payment). :-)

I do apologise for the delay, but tickets are our prefered support medium.

      Regards,
      – Humza

Oh alright. The problem is that I cannot log into one of the VPS’s.
I didn’t receive an email from 2CO, not sure why. But here is the order numbers for both the payments, 4960404258 and 4960405353. They both were $14 each, I meant to pay for only one but I guess I double paid somehow. I would like a refund on one of them, thanks.
(Sorry i’m not using the ticket system right now, I’ll make sure to use it next time. xD)

        • Hey Brandon,

I’ve removed your VPS’s IP address from that comment since it’s just not good practice. ;)

As for the VPS, I have created a new VPS and sent the details to you. With regards to the refund, it would be quicker if you submitted a ticket with the 2CO details, so Alex can get to it quicker and process the refund. :-)

          Regards,

Ordered the L3, was set up and ready to go within the hour. They have a lot of choices for OS, and their control panel is pretty nice. But I’ve found it takes ages to install any packages. I know it’s a low end VPS, but installing mysql through yum took greater than 10 minutes. Running nginx, php-fpm, and mysql is working well, but the install was just painfully slow. After the initial install, it’s doing fine.

Thank you for the feedback; if you drop in a ticket with your IP in it, we can take a look at the node if you like. :-)

Are these low end specials bandwidth caps on a per month or per year basis? like the L3 special has 150 gigs of bandwidth so is that 150 gigs a month or year?

Would something like this be good enough to handle a VPN connection?

    April 12, 2013 @ 4:28 pm | Reply
    • Hey infinite99,

All of our bandwidth caps are on a per month basis, so that would be 150GB of bandwidth per month.

As for a VPN connection, it would really depend on your needs, I would say it’d be fine unless you’re going to be downloading tonnes through the VPN. As for the specifications of the VPS, they’re more than enough for a VPN.

Do let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. :-)

I saw from the order form that
    Port: 100mbps upgradeable
What exactly is the upgrade option and how much is it?
BTW is the test file on your site http://198.23.149.3/100mb.test from 1G port? I am puzzled since it is faster than some other vendor claiming 1Gb port.

    April 25, 2013 @ 5:07 pm | Reply
    • Humza:

      Hey there,

It is definately 100Mbit, however at the moment we do not allow upgrades to Gbit ports in our Seattle location unfortunately. We do however offer Gbit upgrades in LA, it’s best to submit a ticket for pricing since it can vary on different factors. To be frank if this is the performance you are getting from a Gbit provider, even considering it’s probably shared Gbit, it’s still fairly bad.

      [root@oxygen ~]# wget http://198.23.149.3/100mb.test
      --2013-04-25 13:53:04-- http://198.23.149.3/100mb.test
      Connecting to 198.23.149.3:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
      Length: 104857600 (100M) [application/x-tar]
      Saving to: â100mb.test.1â

      100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 10.3M/s   in 11s

      2013-04-25 13:53:16 (8.86 MB/s) - â100mb.testâ

That’s from a server in east coast USA, reaching close to the maximum 100Mbit. I’d expect closer servers to attain better results depending on the routing. 100Mbit means a theoretical maximum of around 12MB/s.

Do let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. :-)
