  6. sorry about noob question but whatsa benefit of kvm over openvz?

    December 20, 2015 @ 4:59 pm | Reply
    • Hi Nisha,

With OVZ the VM is dependant on the kernel of the hypervisor – the VM is a container rather than a standalone server.
KVM is “true” virtualization, ie different kernel to the host, virtual hardware etc.

There are pros and cons with both.

What’s best for you really depends on what you’re planning on doing.

  7. I use serverpilot.io for managing My server..! your KVM server support for serverpilot or not ?

    December 21, 2015 @ 4:22 pm | Reply
    • Hi Dea,

I’m not 100% familiar with serverpilot, however I’ve had a read through the documentation and I suspect it would work fine.

Obviously you’re free to test and get a refund if it doesn’t work!

      • Jarland Donnell:

It would work on the KVM offer. Basically the only requirement for ServerPilot is that it be KVM.

      • Hi again,

CentOS 7 x86_64 has been added for OVZ – you should be able to select it from the dropdown box when ordering.

Thank you. It’s my fault that I din’t know x86_64 is 64 bits of x86 architecture because normally other host will shows CentOS x64. But, can I know which 1 will have better performance?

          December 27, 2015 @ 11:57 pm | Reply
          • Hi,

Performance wise you won’t see much difference at all, CentOS 7 is challenging if you haven’t used it before due to systemd.

A lot of people prefer 6 as a lot of repos are available compared to 7, 6’s end of life is 2020 where 7 is 2024 so there’s not much difference in terms of end of life.

  9. Cyber Guy:

Does the webspace have virus checking included?
If so, can it be enabled/disabled when required?

    December 28, 2015 @ 12:31 pm | Reply
    • Hi Cyber Guy,

“webspace” suggests that you think this is a shared web hosting platform, it is not. We’re offering VPS hosting.
With this being the case we’re not running anti-virus software on customer VMs.

You’re more than welcome to run an anti-virus on the VPS if you like.

I decided to bite the bullet and give loveservers.com a try after astutium.com bought out my old host of two years minivps and then raised the price from £52.80 a year to over £300 and so far so good…

Had a response to a basic support request in 15 minutes and my site is up an running in minutes! Only thing for me is as above I’d rather pay annually but other than that no complaints.

Sorry, it looks like we didn’t get an email regarding your comments.

Glad to hear everything is up and running as expected.

Currently we have no plans on offering yearly deals/annual billing option, we may do within the coming months.

  13. VPS Starter:

    Hi LoveServers,
I am just stepping in the VPS world and not very familiar with a lot of things, so apologies if my questions look a bit silly.

Your offers look great and the fact that I am going to learn in the beginning it is not very expensive learning curve. I know that I’ll have to install and configure the OS and the control panel on my own and many other things of course, but I want to ask will I have to configure my own mail server?
I am planning to use the VPS for 10 – 12 websites where only 2 or 3 of them have like around 500 – 600 visits per month. Will that be ok on both of the offers? Also which of the plans will be more suitable – I am leaning more towards the KVM as it offers more storage space but I also tried to understand the differences between the openVZ and KVM which is a bit confusing and many say openVZ. Probably it will be easier to decide when I have more experience?.
Also which is the best OS to use – I am familiar and have experience with Ubuntu and Debian, but many users say CentOS is the best?

Also many advise to look for a VPS with good DDos protection – is this something which comes with your offers.
Do I have the option to reinstall the system in case I get something wrong in the initial settings? Are there any limits to that usage?

I’ll really appreciate all the information which you can give me and I’ll only use it as a guidance to make a choice rather than a promise from you for something additional. As I said I’ll be learning.

    Kind regards,
    VPS Starter

      Lets see…..

Question one Which plan for 10-12 websites: Really depends on the content served to be honest the more content heavy the site is the more resources it will chew through i.e fmmpeg php etc.

Question two your own mail server: Most control panels come with it installed and configured to work in tandom with your websites (such as cpanel for instance) and don’t require THAT much configuring.

Question three which visualization? : Well OpenVZ shares resources with other users on the node where KVM is more of an isolated container and is closer to being a dedi as its resources are dedicated to your container rather than “best effort”

Question four DDOS protection: Do you REALLY need DDOS protection, more often than not it’s a fancy bells and whistle that you dont/wont need again comes down to what your hosting

      Hope that helps

        Hi Wulfy,
Thank you very much for your time and your answers.
I’ll try to comment using your structure :) – had to do it like that.

Question one – 7 of the websites are HTML/CSS with php contact forms, rest are wordpress sites with standard text content and images for some of the galleries. The images are optimised for web with a small size. Pages of the websites is up to 25. Two of the WordPress sites have a little bit more pages around 35, one of it includes 3 videos with size of around 100 mb, which can be moved to youtube or similar for example. These last two have galleries with total size of the images of around 150 MB. Hope this helps

Question two – I was planning to use Webmin ot ISPconfig as free options, simply because I am not sure what will happen and will I manage to deal with all of the tasks. That’s why don’t want to spend additional for cPanel at least not in the first month. I’ll definitely start with one domain and see how it goes then will add the rest.
The emails are very important that’s why I asked about setting the email server. I need to have working sending/receiving emails. I read that usually many people install postfix, but I am not familiar at all with the email server setup part.

Question three – I’ve read a lot and basically what you wrote is what I think is the essential with the addition that KVM however uses more of the resources as it is dedicated to me. As I said I am leaning to that option but as I have no direct experience decided to ask. I am not sure if the websites which I want to run are very hungry on resources but I believe KVM will be ok. At the moment 10 of the sites – 8 HTML + 2 wordpress are on a shared hosting and they are alright, although sometimes I get warnings for the I/O connections. But I do my best to optimise the content all the time.

Question four DDos- So far I didn’t have to deal directly with such a trouble and I am fortunate with my current shared hosting provider to keep me safe and up and running almost 100% for 5 years. But as I said I am reading a lot to understand what is needed and what can be optimised for a VPS – many recommend to ask for that kind of a protection. The content on the websites is not of a high value so to be targeted but …
I am used to using htaccess and adding a lot of protection rules through it. Hope this doesn’t sound very silly, but this is my experience.
Hope I managed to clear the additional points.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer me.
        Kind regards,
        VPS Starter
