LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

NameCrane Offloaded SQL: Get Hosted MySQL in the Cloud for Very Cheap!

NameCrane Offload SQLHosted MySQL offerings have always been on the pricey side, relative to running MySQL yourself.  Typically you pay some combination of storage, bandwidth, and metered activity (more queries = higher bill).  Adding all this up usually puts it outside what a LowEnder is willing to pay, as these services are aimed more at corporate types.

But here comes NameCrane to make hosted MySQL cheap for the masses!

It’s in BETA right now.  Check this out:

  • MariaDB 11.4
  • Big beefy hardware with lots of CPU, RAM, and fast storage
  • phpMyAdmin available, with a white-labeled domain if desired
  • Hourly backups with 24-48 hours of retention once the beta period is over

Right now it’s FREE while in beta.  Once it goes production, cost will be in the neighborhood of $0.35 – $0.50 per GB per year, all-inclusive.

So if you have a typical WordPress database, you could be looking at pennies per year.  Heck, even if you had 10GB of data, that’s only $5 per year.

This service is available to use with any provider, VPS or shared hosting.  However, if you’re using NameCrane, you’ll find the offloaded SQL is colocated on the same LAN (same switch even!) as their shared/reseller hosting, giving you ~0.1ms latency.

At present, this service is offered only in NameCrane’s Las Vegas and New York locations, but Amsterdam should be coming online soon.  Also, this is MySQL only at the moment but PostGreSQL may be coming.
